đŸ”¶ Audioquest NightHawk

Keeping in mind 350 CAD is about 250 USD.

I’ve been scouring video reviews and write-ups trying to convince myself Not to buy.

2.5mm connectors is a real bummer. The rubber connection holding the cups to the headband seems an odd choice.

I might be talking myself out of buying.

I would say so. These are my favorite headphones. They are extremely immersive, the way they recreate space sounds like you are there with the music live in an auditorium or large club. They also have a very 3D like imaging experience that is really cool, it keeps you engaged, yet somehow if you want to relax with these, you totally can. I highly recommend them. They are very unique, and honestly just awesome.

The Carbon made some ‘corrections’ to the previous model. They made it less weird and strange, but kept the positive aspects.

I think the black cups made me less interested in them before. But if the Carbon is the ‘improved’ version, now I need to pay more attention to it.

I also think the suede pads they have are way more comfortable to wear. I can wear them for literally all day, and not have issues.

Just to clarify I was talking about USD pricing in my above comment. I think $350 and under is fair, but I don’t think I personally would pay above $300.

It is nice though they include 2 sets of pads and a very nice case with the set though. I also agree with Soren that the suede pads are much more comfortable, especially if you wear glasses.

Can anyone comment on build quality? I skimmed through the comments but I haven’t seen anyone with busted headbands or anything. Do these seem like they might make it through a few years of daily driving?

I baby them cus I love them so much, but in the headphones defense I did accidentally throw them off my head when a bug flew near my eye and I caught them on accident LOL, no issues after they hit the ground even pulled the cable connectors out and no issues so I’m happy with them. This was today or yesterday when that happened.

From pictures they look like the build quality could easily be broken
and that might be true, but I doubt it
I also baby mine so I’m not really sure.

They feel surprisingly sturdy though, and the rubber around the sides is much harder than I thought it would be. I think if you take good care of your things this should last a very long time. Definitely doesn’t feel like it will just break down on you.

Mine have stood up to the abuse I have put them through pretty well. They certainly are not for portable use imo, but fine to wear around the house.

They feel like tanks tbh. Just like senheisers I think the build is pretty good for long-term use. Just the way they are built and held together feels really sturdy and flexible

Most Sennheisers feel flimsy in a wierd way, they hold up like tanks though

My money is on the senns lasting longer
I’m pretty careful with the hawks
the pieces holding the comfort strap and the ear cup attachment system seem pretty flimsy imo

Managed to find a used Carbon in my country for around $220, took the plunge. Good god, how did I randomly stumble upon this thread in the morning and ended up with less money in the evening.

I am really looking forward to receiving the headphones and appreciate all the comments/feedback you have provided on here. I admit that I was little apprehensive even after I purchased them, some of the terms used in the reviews i have read described them as “wonky” and “weird”. I guess you could interpret those words in different ways but to me it seemed negative. But your comments have managed to put some context behind it and i can’t wait.

I have also managed to purchase an aftermarket custom made balance cable from a UK supplier.

I have bought many cables before from this guy before and they are absolutely amazing. If anyone is interested here is the link:

I have gone for the 8 core Braided SP-OCC with maroon cover and 4.4mm connection :+1:

I wouldn’t really describe them as weird or wonky or whatever. I feel they have a nice presentation that isn’t very headphone like and this throws people off. It also seems to me that the people that dislike them majorly just didn’t spend enough time to acclimate to them.

What are these like to drive, i’ve heard they need a bit of power?

I have a Fiio M11 so I am sure that would be more than adequate but would the Nighthawks benefit from running from a dedicated amp?

Ok, I will be honest - I have seen glowing reviews for the Ifi Hip Dac and looking for an excuse to buy one :grinning:

Has anyone got one and if so able to share your experiences with it paired with the Nighthawk? Or is there another amp you could recommend (btw I am looking at portable usage and not desktop)? Or will I be wasting my money and the Fiio M11 will suffice?

You won’t want to hear this but they’re pretty easy to drive and don’t really change much at all on the amps I’ve tried
m11 will be just fine I’m sure
