These headphones will always be my first love. They changed the game for me and set the bar. Still put a smile on my face every time I listen.

I really might design this shirt one of these days. If I do I’ll let you all know.

Just ordered some brainwavz sheepskin pads for my nighthawks. Hopefully they work well! Also got an ifi zen dac to stack with my aune b1s

Be interested to hear any comparison between the Nighthawks to the Gold Planar GL2000. The reason I mention that particular headphone is because there seems to be a lot of hype about them.

For me, the imaging on the Nighthawks is probably the best I’ve heard and according to Zeos review this was one of the most compelling features on the GL2000s.

BTW, still  my Nighthawks, currently listening to them with the stock suede pads hooked up via balanced cable to my new Astell & Kern Kann player, absolutely awesome :ok_hand:

From the sound demo of them gl2000s, I can tell that the imaging is definitely there, but you’ll loose the nice bass which is a deal breaker for me. If you are ok with loosing the deep and detailed bass of the nighthawks, then you’d love the gl2000s. Probably has even better imaging then the nighthawks.

Thank you for your feedback, I know from the comments from others (including Zeos) the imaging on these are superb but so are the Nighthawks which is why I asked the question. I find the bass on the Nighthawks is great depending on which pads I use (where I think the suede pads make the bass sound more natural)

Hey there, I’m thinking about buying the Nighthawk Carbon.
Those are intended to be “pleasure cans” for Jazz, Hip Hop, Techno (raw, deep, hypnotic).

Don’t think they will be too warm for me, but some questions regarding bass:
Does the bass feel “fast” and tight/punchy?
I like a powerful kickdrumm, but don’t want it to resonate forever.

Bass is nice and full, decently punchy with good impact, but I wouldn’t call it overly quick or tight. Well driven, it should be pretty clean and controlled, but you won’t get near planar levels of quickness.

Hi everyone,
after days of intense research I just ordered the NH Carbon for 269€. Really excited for these since I am looking for big soundstage and strong bass without too much loss in detail and these sound just about right. Actually this thread gave me the final push so be proud of yourselves.
Any recommendations on entry level amps up to around 200€ which would be good for them? Also thinking about getting a planar headphone later this year and I heard some of those can profit from amps with bass boost.
btw this is my first post and I am really excited to join this community.

Nighthawk gang!

They dont need much power so you are good for basically whatever you want. Ifi has some stuff around that budget that has bass boost and crossfeed stuff to mess with so maybe look into their offerings.

First post on HFG and starting out with the hawks! You are doing it right my friend! I started out using the hawks with the Monolith Liquid Spark and it worked well. You could also look at the JDS Labs Atom if it’s available in Europe. Those should be around 100€, my mind is drawing a blank on the 200€ range at the moment. Do you have a DAC picked out yet? Because if you have 200€ to spend I would look at putting about half of that towards something like the Topping E30 or similar. Welcome to the hobby!

They sound like so much fun and given that they will be increasingly hard to get I just had to do it. Actually had this weird obsession with headphones since my early teens, but now I finally have enough money to absolutely ruin myself with audio gear.
Since now my main cans where the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro (currenty modding them) and the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 for mobile use. Generally I’d be willing to spend around 400€ for amp and dac, but the iFi Zen DAC seems perfectly fine already. Could I theoretically combine that one with a tube amp later on?

has anyone had any feedback on the ifi zen can with the NH ?

Haven’t heard them on Zen Can, but they’re pretty easy to drive, so you shouldn’t have any issues.

Don’t know about the Zen Can, but on the Zen Dac it is no where near to maxing out. Especially running balanced.

It’s true that they are easy to drive, but Def get an amp. Bass comes to life with an amp imo. Both the liquid spark and xduoo xd-05 plus gave me good results but personally preferred the xduoo

Is the separation between bass and miss better with an amp? Xbass does wonders for the subbass, and it sounds really clean on the Zen Dac alone.

YOOO just put mine on for the first time and played Giorgio by Moroder - Daft Punk and now Sowing the Seeds of love - Tears for Fears, after that its Sting live in Berlin. I’m lacking the words to describe the joy I am feeling. And I don’t have anything to do for the rest of the day. brb just gonna listen to all of my music for the first time again.
