A lot of people have had a similar issue with the nighthawksâŠthe bass bleeds into the mids a bit, so there is not a lot of separation from the upper bass and low mids. That being said, these are strictly fun headphones that should be used for enjoyment. Anybody with an analytical preference may want to avoid these.
Yes, they are not made to be used for studio use or analytical lol
Just out of curiosity, what type of music can you hear the upper bass bleed into the lower mids on?
Iâm assuming itâs not anything pop, rap, techno, edm style.
Iâm not hearing it in blues, and since Iâm really not big into classical, rock, orchestral I didnât try it on that.
I tried to catch it with easy listening stuff but didnât manage.
Honestly, it is most music as that is the natural frequency response of the headphones. But, obviously anything with boosted mid-bass and upper-bass (Hip-Hop, EDM, Electronic, etc.). This was a non issue for me cause I am not a fan of those genres (Hip-hop prior to 1996ish I do enjoy a lot).
This is why I do think the âdarker W signatureâ term fits these well. The Sub bass is up, and the lower mids might suffer as a result, but vocals still sound pretty good. Then I think the treble is not very apparent until the very upper areas. Again, what I am saying might vary for person to person with these headphones, lol. You sort of just have to try them to understand them.
Not really, the bass is pretty linear. Here is a frequency response graph that shows only a small notch around 150 HzâŠand then linear through to 1000 HZ, but then a drastic drop in the treble of about 20 decibels until it starts to come back up at around 5000 HzâŠso that drop in the treble makes the elevated bass and mids sound mushed together (beucase the treble clarity isnât there, so the sound suffers from a âwall of soundâ effect. BUT, the magic really is the soundstage and is gives a lot of depth to the frequency response. Yes, the timbre is odd, but it is unique and it does take some time to acclimate your ears to it. But once you do, you realize what they were going for.
The cynic in me believe Audioquest did this on purpose to get people to buy their high cost cables for better clarity. What they probably didnât count on is that with a lack of wide and dark sounding headphones in the market, they filled a niche that was nonexistent prior to the nighthawks.
Maybe thatâs true.
Again, I think itâs just one of those headphones that is hard to describe.
Their presentation makes them sound like they have a warmer bump
Maybe I donât even fully understand them myself. I honestly think that some of the beauty lies in not completely understanding them.
That is what I was eluding to @M0N when I said the soundstage makes the entire response sound different. That, and the chamber type of effect of the housing makes the headphones sound different from the way they should sound, so to speak.
Has anyone heard this and the 1 more triple driver headphone? Which one sounds more unique?
The Nighthawks imo, the 1more isnât that unique. Not saying the 1more is bad, itâs just a well executed v shape where the Nighthawks are different in both tuning and presentation from most headphones
Well I am looking for a unique sound, but with the clip on pads they canât be replaced.
You can replace the pads on the nighthawk but not the 1more (well with the 1more it might take some modding)
Yeah but can the pads be taken off the clip on device?
Yes it can, you would just need to poke some holes in the pad you want to swap
Although I personally donât think I would even consider changing out the pad, as they are just so comfortable and sound so nice
Well shit Iâve been hearing yaw going on about these headphones for a while. Iâve heard about the very dark sound and clarity.
Lol perhaps too many people have been convinced in recent times lol
The $200 price tag has done most of the convincing, IMO. (I wish I paid that little⊠but yeah, at least I only paid a little more â at the original price they were absurd, IMO).
Of course, I wouldnât have recommended them at anything over 400, but at 200-250 they are pretty awesome if you want something different
