Best closed back headphones under 300? (music/gaming)

Anything from Dan Clark looks beautiful, I wish I could just jump for a closed back from him cause I doubt i’d be disappointed, but sadly don’t have the financials to drop that amount of money for at least a few years.

not just looks but build quality is nothing short of luxury. Gorgeous and sturdy. Ethers are more analytical though which is why I use aeons. Really wish he would make alternative pads and not use adhesive so I can pad swap easier more so when these get old and worn out. Original aeons are terrible… open x and beyond are incredible.

Anyway, yeah I would say though to go ahead and pick up argons it may be a bit before you get them though orders take some time. If you feel that perhaps you should save up for a fostex or e-mu I wouldn’t fault you though they definitely have more bass and are more luxury but its up to you. The recommendations here you really can’t go wrong.

The T60RP Argon has a little less bass and a little more lower treble / upper mids than a regular mk3 based Argon. Actually on their site

I see about the differences, in that case the t50 argons look to be the go to option. I’ll def keep an eye out for e-mu teaks or foxtex th-x00’s, cause if i can get one cheaper than argons I will, but otherwise, the argons are calling my name.

Does the 770 250 have less bass than the 770 80? I recently just got the 770 250 and feel like the 4XX has more bass compared to the 770 250.

Due to design reasons 80 ohms was designed for more fun listening while the 250 ohm is designed for critical listening. Due to this turning up the 80 ohms to a higher volume will reveal more bass than it’s 250 ohm counter part though not by very much. You also comparing an balanced open back that uses very thick hybrid pads to a bright closed back headphone that uses airy velour. Try replacing your dt 770s pads with a sheepskin or perforated you will get better results or placing the dt 770 on an equalizer and adjusting the bass by a small margin to wake it up a bit more.

I have sheepskins on the 770s atm. Comfort is through the roof. :+1:

the bass on the 250 ohm proves significantly with a nice amp as well

Should have probably mentioned that one. Busy auditioning the tygrs.

Like what amps?

What amp are you running on right now?

JDS Labs Atom.

nah then your fine. the 770 has great subbass extension but not as good as the 4xx’s to me the 770 has more bass but that is more attributed to the fact that it’s closed backand I hget more of that rumble and is dynamic so the bass quality is looser

From a guy that uses nighthawks for gaming and just all out fun headphones for that bass head side of me get the hawks/owls…with a mod mic. If you really want a can that will do it all save some pennies and look at the audeze LCD2 closed backs.
The reason most people have a hard time recommending the hawks or owls is they are are really low distortion driver, for something right next to your ears that is something really weird to hear if you aren’t used to it. When first hearing them its like OMFG just bass/mids and then you listen longer and realize oh sh*t treble is there too. Natural distortion of a driver is most apparent in the treble range and not to mention there are other factors like beaming…yadda yadda yadda. Argons will be great but anything short of those if you want quality sound/bass in you price range you are missing out if you don’t try the hawks/owls.

BTW Argons need serious power to get the full sound or bass that people are talking about. Do you have an emotiva A100?

I have a topping a50, which im hoping on high gain does the job

It can be ran off an atom or Magni so I would think you will be alright. Argons are one of those headphones that do well with more expensive setups and are pretty power hungry.

I’ve heard that, which is honestly a big reason I jumped for the a50 vs starting with an atom.

All I can say BLON BL-03 cannot be used for gaming, maybe just for strategy/racing… For fps, you cannot hear position of footsteps.

Not sure why you would use an IEM for gaming to begin with outside of tournament venue. You stand to gain more from a set of cans. IEMs would be a good option for those who can’t afford a set of cans but also use the iems for other things so it kills two birds with one stone so to speak but you’d still want a mic. I suppose if your preferred comfort is ear buds than this makes sense for general use but not fps.
