I agree. This plays very well with the DT770 250 ohm. And itās also an amp worth keeping long(er) term. I found the slightly warmer sound of the liquid spark balanced out the slightly brighter sound of the dt770 250 ohm. This was just my impression of the combo so YMMV. Running the DT770 on the Topping L30 was murder treble to my ears. The JDS Labs Atom sounded good with these. But liquid spark was my favorite.
If you can stand to wait for it, the A3 is highly recommended. Itās a big step up for not much more $$$. And as a bonus the DT880 600ohm runs nicely on the A3. This is my regular setup for movie watching, and itās very impressive.
The DT880 600ohm is a unique headphone at itās price point. It scales very well with the amp you use it on. The liquid spark (and the rest of the ~$100 amps) will run the dt880 600ohm. But you probably wonāt be impressed or see why people love it. I retested today on the JDS Labs Atom and the Topping L30 (I had them on hand). They play at loud volume, but definitely not the same width and low-end volume that the A3 produces on them. And if you upgrade in the future from the A3 to a nicer amp the DT880 600ohm continues to scale in performance.
What DAC do you have in mind? Most of the ~$100 DACs will play nicely with a liquid spark or A3.
In that case, keep it simple! You can always go with motherboard analog out (volume turned all the way up) into an amp. Itāll still be an upgrade, just not full potential. Then add a DAC later. The easy solution is get the DAC that matches your amp. They will stack together and sound good.
Part of the fun of the hobby is mixing and matching. But itās not a requirement. I personally started with the Schiit Stack (Magni and Modi). And now I donāt have any money because I kept trying other thingsā¦ soā¦ watch your wallet carefully
If you succeed at this you will have more self control than most on this forum!
Hope you have fun with your dt770 250ās. My first cans were the 80 ohm version, and I loved them. I regret ever selling them (you never forget your first lol)
Just bought an 80 ohm one(used, kinda worn pads, washed them), itās shockinglyā¦ warm? I was expecting treble murder, but itās legit warmer than 400i2020, shp9500, hd560s, etc. Did I get a weird unit or thatās just how these roll? Iām pretty pleased myself fwiw, thereās a bit of an edge at some point in the treble but nothing offensive.
Iām pretty sure the 80ohms are less treble-y than the 250ohms, more warm/bassy than distinctly V-shaped, as well as time bringing down the highs through pad-wear.
yeh almost neutral slight V most of the frequency, I think I just singled the peak they do have but itās all the way to like 12khz so most songs donāt even touch it, and itās nowhere as annoying as some other headphones Iāve had, I think they got some 8k too but thatās one feels smaller, not bad.
Make sure you are treble sensitive or upper mid sensitive. I use Beyer all day t1.2nd, dt990, and dt1990! the treble doesnāt bother me. On another note, Hd6xx and he5xx (bright) sometimes vocals are shouty for me.
Yeah for me the really bad part to have peaks is between around 4k and 8k, I can still hear pretty high but it bothers me less, these do have an edge at like 8k but Iāve definitely heard worse.
Ok so Iāve got a big new development involving my 770s(80 ohms).
Bought these sheepskin pads from aliexpress (the no hole version) actually for my he400iās (they even came with the discs) in hopes that they would add bass, lower treble and add comfort since the pad hole is taller and yeah they did, but they massively raised mids too so they ruined the 400i sound, but I decided to try them on the 770s and man Iāve stopped daydreaming about the ebony fostexā¦
Basically, they raised bass even more and spiked mids a bit, ended up putting a layer of toilet paper below them to calm down the higher mids, and added a bit of tape to the ports to calm down the bass a bit (might be placebo ngl, tested with blutack and that definitely took away the bass but itās messy and I wanted bass monster cans lol) .
Honestly I think itās absolutely too much bass by audiophile standards, itās almost monoprice retro quantity but these are waaay better in every way and tbh I love them now, these are my dedicated metal cans now, actually got super good mids too now, treble is suuuper smooth too(kinda like 6xx), if I could reduce bass at around 150hz by like 3 db theyād be perfect but theyāre now my āfunā cans so I donāt mind it too much.
So I got some Dekoni Elite Sheepskin pads, but wasnāt able to determine if the foam insert from the stock pads is supposed to stay in or not. I ended up leaving them in, but if anyone knows what I ought have done, let me know!
I bought a brand new pair of DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm off eBay. It arrived in a sealed box but when I opened the box Iāve found out that it looks quite different from the ones that are sold everywhere. It looks exactly like this but has 80 Ohm written on the headband (which they actually are).
update to this, just get the pads and leave them be. works better without the extra mods lol. also Iāve tried a bunch of other pads (brainwavz, some sheepskin for fostex, official beyer, etc) those are the best(the ones in the pic), they bring up the bass/mids and lower the treble just right.
