Those have more of the oval shape on the opening but they have some amazing reviews. I havenāt heard of the company but to see them compared to ZMF like spot on quality wise is impressive. Not particularly what I am looking for though as I would prefer the more fully circular kind of pad. I ended up getting the choice leathers from dekoni for like $25
Sadly they are not QUITE as good as real ZMF pads but are still more than worth it. Iāve used them on my 770s and quite liked them. The non-fenestrated didnāt change the sound much accept for a bit more mid-bass and warmth, but only a bit.
My current preferred pad for my 770s are the dekoni X00 sheepskin pads since they almost make the 770s sound like a baby X00. Adds a fair amount of warmth in the lower mids and tames the treble rather well, though there is still some sibilance distortion but itās not as piercing as stock pads. Not as comfortable as the pads I linked since the ear hole is smaller bit they are still good for me and I really like how they sound.
Didnāt think the X00 pads would actually fit. Will have to give them a shot at some point
IIRC I had Brainwavz XL pads on my old 770ās not sure if they do full leather though
Just got some fostex th900 fenestrated sheepskin pads from dekoni for a cheap price and they sound great on the dt770. Mids no longer as recessed, highs arnt as sibilant(ymmv) as they could be and the bass is nice and present but not overwelming or boomy. sounds real smooth. This takes the dt770 600 ohm out of retirement for me. Hmm probably not listening to hip hop as much with these.
Oh awesome, a 600ohm version out in the wild! Looks interesting with the pads too, thanks for your input.
Haha I only learned these were discontinued last year. Had no clue that they werenāt for sale anymore in this variant. Iāve been going mobile with these up until then. These are now a home set with these pads. I would guess its sundara like from zās pad review.
Edit- well I had to bring them out while running errands and ooh itās like I have new headphones paired with my xd-05.
huh, I might need to get thoseā¦ those look really niceā¦ wonder how they compare to the regular beyer fenestratedsā¦ They look a bit thinner than what you get for the beyers from Dekoni
The red are the brainwavz and black are the dekoni.
The dekoni th900 pads do have an angle to them. They are as thick as the regular brainwavz fenestrated. Dekoni has a slightly bigger ear hole compared to the red pads.
The brainwavz fenestrated sound softer in sound compared to the dekoni th900 pads. Less sub bass presence compared to the dekoni. Itās still there but just softer. The dekoni sub bass is more noticably compared to the brainwavz.
Both pads brought the mids forward and made the highs seem less sharp to my ears. Bright, smooth, and forward sounding is what Iād say they sound like. Dekoni pads with a bit more sub bass presence.
This has me a bit curious nowā¦
So, the T1 2nd gen has curved drivers and I have been searching all over for a nice curved pad that fitsā¦ the fostex here will fit them and they are curvedā¦ aaand dekoniā¦ aaand good qualityā¦ think you may hve just solved my search with this oneā¦ The regular beyer dekoni elite velours are quite a bit thicker than I would like but the fostex variant are thinner and angled to boot which may be exactly what I have been searching for, wellā¦ I have been looking for about a month now. I may need to get a pair of these fenestrateds and the velour to go with my T1.2 and hybrids if they got themā¦ if that all works hell, I will sell the 1990 off and switch to just use these fostex pads on my T1
I did look into zmf pads but they are so damn expensiveā¦ I would rather not go that route honestly
Dekoni pads are actually more expensive than most ZMF pads (at least dekoni fostex pads). ZMF univers pads are $10 cheaper and you can get the perf hybrids for that comfy suede face (should sound the same as normal perf lambskin). They may not be as angled as you want but the Ori pads are very angled and the same price (only normal perf, no hybrid though).
As for my dt770, I use dekoni X00 sheepskin pads. They are expensive, but I already had them from all my pad swapping adventures with my X00s so I may as well use them. They fill out the lower mids and smooth the treble just enough. They are still sibilant (seeming an inherant flaw of many beyers), but no longer piercing.
do not have this issue of sibilance with any of my beyers other than amiron for some reason which was annoying as hell.
in terms of suedes I definitely prefer dekonis materialā¦ it feels better to me though zmf definitely appears to be of highly quality. They are about the same thickness but zmf has curved pads(less there is a thinner variation other than universe)ā¦ at the same time the fostex from dekoni are thinner than what you would get going with beyerdynamic from dekoniā¦ which is a bit annoying as I am not a fan of these huge pads on my beyersā¦ I prefer a thinner pad like the velour already on them just of a different material maybe a bit wider but not thicker
80 ohms came in. Bought them used, came with Brainwavz leather pads and had the cable mod ready.
Been doing initial detail tests. Played āWelcome to the black paradeā and was surprised to see that you canāt hear the metronome nor the piano resonance from the intro. These might not have the best detailing?
That metronome is so quiet. What headphones have you been listening to that make that sound forward in the mix? I could hear it on my dt770 with stock pads but it is very faint. Tested on dt880 and hd6xx as well just cuz and itās there but also very faint. Some pads (generally big ones like brainwavz) on the dt770 can muddle the detail.
My K702ās barely pick it up. With a MDR-7506 itās very audible.
Even the 250 ohms arenāt that detailed. They give a nice presentation though.
After quite a bit of research, it looks like the dt770 250 ohm are the best fit for me, but I donāt have an amp yet (Iāll be running them off the mobo for the moment). I know this isnāt ideal, but I think the room for improvement is worth the short-term issues over the 32/80 ohm models.
Iām not overly fussed about a dac unless itāll make a massive difference as Iām kind of tight for money, but does anyone have a recommendation or two for a low-cost, high price-to-performance amp?
I enjoyed the DT770 on the Monolith Liquid Spark. Solid, powerful little amp. Next step up would probably be the Asgard 3.
Would the spark be able to handle future upgrades, possibly to a 600ohm beyer model?
I believe the Spark would have the power to push the 600ohm pretty well. Havenāt tried it because I owned the DT880 and the Spark at different times. It might not be the most detailed, but it would probably have a signature that complements something like the DT880 because of the Sparkās more relaxed treble. Maybe somebody who has tried that combo can weigh in.
