I know what you mean! After you listen to the hawks for a little while and then you A/B with something itās like āwait, what?ā. Donāt know how to describe it either. Itās just confusing.
Thatās good news! Iām definitely looking for a set of wub wubs. I love the laidback sound on my hawks, but to balance out my collection I am looking for something with a little more energetic sound.
Thatās a slightly better price than I found and seems like a great deal considering most of the time it looks like they sell used for around $80 and itās harder to find the 250 ohms. Probably just gonna keep my order since itās already processing and I donāt want to bother with canceling it.
*edit it looks like I bought it from the same store, just on eBay without the promo code. Should have dug a little deeper. Maybe Iāll contact them.
It definitely wouldnāt hurt! Save a few bucks on other things, like angled pads!
Pad swapping can be pretty great but Iād highly rec just listening stock for awhile and if something you dont like becomes apparent then pads may help thereā¦ 770s have really good soundstage out the box and the LS is pretty wide as well
I just contacted them on ebay and took a screenshot of my cart on their website. I asked them if they could work with me. We will see what they say.
FYI, I use Honey and Wikibuy on my browser extensions. Iām kind of a coupon code whore.
Looks like they are going to hook me up with a partial refund for the difference between my eBay purchase and the price on the site with the code. Thanks so much for the tip!
Happy to assist! Glad they came through!
So I completely blew by this āprice rangeā in the headphone world and never experimented with different sound signatures. I went from the k7XX to the Sendy Avia to the ZMF Auteurs in less than a calendar year. I just recently listened to a pair of DT770 for the first time about a month ago and was able to spend 15+ hours with them. All I can say to these is WOW. I cannot recommend these headphones enough. I love their signature personally. What they do to mids is just tasty to my ears. These are good enough to where I can listen to them for extended periods of time despite having the Auteurs withing hands reach and not be dissatisfied with what I am listening to. These cans are great and everyone should own a pair.
Also Porta Pros. Everyone must own porta pros with yaxi pads. best. headphones. ever. made.
This gets me more hype for mine to arrive later this week! Out of curiosity, what ohm were the pair you listened to?
250 ohm. Iām also fortunate enough to own an smsl sp200, which I use to power t60rps and that threw enough power to really drive them properly. If youāve got a powerful amp then that is the model Iād suggest, though I havenāt listened to the lesser ohm set to truly speak to their qualities.
The lower ohm ratings are known for being a lot harsher and the bass is kind of wonky and uncontrolled. Not recommended at all. I couldnāt listen to the 80 ohm and the 32 ohm is worse from what I hear.
The 250 tones down the sharpness just enough and the bass is much more refined and tight, yet very impactful.
And you said you like what they do to the mids @Atomic_coco ? Well, these actually greatly recess the midrange so it is much lower than the treble and sub bass. They are a very V shaped sounding pair. But thatās great if you like that. V shape is probably my favorite signature along with W.
Edit: Just saw you said you have an SMSL SP200. These will sound way better on a warmer amp too, really helps with some of the peakiness and stuff. SP200 certainly wouldnāt be my recommendation for these with how sharp they already are, but if you are okay with that then thatās fine.
And it would be a huge no-no to try the lower ohm ratings on that amp. That would be like extra treble murder lol.
The mids are a little funny and Iāve heard it said that we call it v shaped because thatās a quick and dirty way to explain it which I totally getā¦ i feel like theres a little hump in there somewhere that makes vocals in particular appear not so recessed and actually sound really nice to my earsā¦ so I can get behind the nice mids comment
Some people (even on this forum) like the 80 ohm for its āsloppy fun bassā and paired with the liquid spark (or something similar) I think the highs could become manageable for most
That said I did trade my 80 for a 250 and Iām happy I didā¦ suits my personal preferences
it seems the 250 indeed impresses people more than the 80s, the 80ohm version I tried indeed doesnāt impresses me much, esp on its midrange area, neither me nor my dad like it that much.
lookin good
They doā¦
First impressions are very favorable. Definitely requires a lot more juice than my Nighthawks. Sitting at 9:00 on the dial on my LS with high gain switch engaged. More like 10 or 11 on low gain. Is it just me or does high gain change the sound on these? Seems like I get more impactful bass and more separation on high gain. Am I crazy?
High gain is beneficial for sure on the 250 ohm so youāre not crazyā¦ comparatively much more difficult to drive than the nhā¦ glad to here theyāre working out finding the bass slam sufficient?
So Iām still in the honeymoon phase today but dang! These things are pretty sweet. They definitely deliver the wub wubs! Everything sounds so tight and controlled. That bass hits hard and has great definition and sub-bass rumble. The treble is definitely prominent and I could see it being fatiguing on certain tracks, but it is also really fun and clear. These are almost polar opposites from my Nighthawks and I love it. They complement each other so well. Happy with my purchase so far! And I donāt see any reason that will change. My Sony MDR-1As are already out the door so I didnāt get a chance to A/B with them but I think these sound like they are on another level in my opinion.
