šŸ”· Beyerdynamic DT770

You folks are making me wonder if I need a set of 250 ohms now. I have and enjoy the 80s. Just wonder how much of a difference it really offers. And yes, I do have a amp that can power them.

Itā€™s a step up, something to try if you are interested

Tighter cleaner bass and smoother highs on the 250 ohm imo

Wow, you must not be sensitive to sibilance much at all if you can handle the 80 ohm! I couldnā€™t barely listen to them at all.
Treble on the 250 ohm is much less sibilant and peaky, more refined, and the bass isnā€™t as wonky, more tight and quick. A tad bit more midrange too. Get a good amp for the 250 ohm and they perform super well.

And if you are feeling adventurous there is a 600 ohm version of them you can get. A bit rare but real good from what I hear.

Iā€™ve only had two cases where sibilance was too much for me, but I am 56 so my ears may be a bit burnt out. The Beyerdynamic T90, and the Fiio F9 Pro. The Fiio are annoying because if it wasnā€™t for that peak they sound amazing. The T90 were just overkill.

Just curious what amp(s) do you have to power them?

I have the iFi Micro Black. Figure switched to Turbo power mode it should do the job. Itā€™s been able to handle anything Iā€™ve thrown at it so far with no problems. Most power hungry have probably been Fostex models.

Waitā€¦ ifi Micro IDSD Black Label?!
That thing is a BEAST.

If it is the one I am thinking of, I think you should try to get the 600 ohm 770.
They are rare but there is a nice pair selling on eBay right now. For the price I would jump on it with a good max bid when it gets close to selling time.

they look pretty niceā€¦ I wonder what the benefits are comparatively

I hear they are more refined and tighter and smoother while still retaining that fun V shape. Really cool for a kind of collectorā€™s item imo.

Honestly in this case Iā€™d like to buy new. The 250 should be enough for me, and theyā€™re not that expensive. The sad thing is I donā€™t really ā€œneedā€ them, Iā€™m just getting bored with my current cans. I like having variety. Thatā€™s why I was considering re-buying some Nighthawks and the 400iā€™s again. They sound different than what I have right now. That said, I donā€™t really ā€œneedā€ them either. :upside_down_face:

Oh the Nighthawk Carbon are my favorite headphones. Of everything I have ever tried. I love mine. If you can get those I highly recommend them.

This is a great review. I really like his videos in general. (It doesnā€™t hurt that I 100% agree with this video and he made me feel very good about my purchase. Haha!)

I have the DT770 Pro (250Ī©) and initially I loved them, but wanted to ask if anyone else occasionally feels the treble is too harsh? I was listening to some music and AC/DC came on and I actually physically winced a few times.

I love the comfort, soundstage, sub-bass, etc. but wanted to see if anyone else felt the treble could be too harsh.

youā€™re not aloneā€¦ I put in a foam insert from a k240 and only listen to them on the liquid spark because it has a slight treble roll off which helps make them nicer to listen to

Ahh, good idea. I also considered changing the pads but theyā€™re already so comfortable that I really didnā€™t want to mess with them. Iā€™m currently using a JDS Labs Atom ampā€¦ maybe a tube would roll back the treble some?

Iā€™ve tried a pleather pad and it didnt help (maybe the opposite actually) and I havenā€™t tried a tube yet but I should
