Any other pads other than alphas people have tried pad swapping with? I’d be curious about velour / suede pads specifically like Dekonis or ZMF ovals
Been thinking about getting these headphones. There wasa sale recently for these at 120$. Thing is i have the DT880 600ohm. and i liked them but i didnt like the bass recess and the lack of body. I was wondering since these are closed if that gives them more bass and body. Also ive only seen a 250 ohm version of these. is there a 600? Also ive seen these in 2 different pads. one black and one grey. which are better? thanks
I personally do not feel like these lack bass and body. The bass is nice and tight and extends to sub bass rumble territory. They are also pretty treble forward. The details all feel nice and separated for a closed back. I have the 250 ohm version because that is what was recommended to me and I really like them. As far as I know they do not make a 600 ohm version, and I have heard there is a slight difference in sound between the gray pads and the black pads. I have the grey and I like them. They are very comfortable.
Yes there is a 600 ohm version. I have tried the 80 ohm and 250 ohm versions. The 80 ohm was a big no, really piercing sharp sibilance, and wonky bass, and almost no mids. The 250 ohm tightened the bass without losing quantity really, and the treble, while still being kind of sharp, was no longer sibilant.
Also I think the general consensus around here is that the black pads mess with the sound on Beyerdynamics and make the treble more harsh and not very pleasant. I would stay away from them.
If you can find the 600 ohm, it is a little more neutral than the 250 ohm, slightly less bass. Either the silver pad version of the 600 ohm or the 250 ohm is the way to go.
And yes, these deliver an awesome sub bass rumble and punch. Very fun.
Oh yeah! I forgot about that 600 ohm version. I stumbled on one a while back on eBay while I was shopping for my 250 ohm. They are discontinued and harder to find but they are out there. I am not really crazy about the way they look honestly, but they do seem interesting.
I really goofed on passing up a pair that sold for $60. That was an amazing deal! I thought they were going to sell for almost $300. Oh well.
I will say the dt770 250 are more lean than the dt880. They have more sub bass, but the dip in the 200khz region make them lack warm and maybe the body you are looking for. Vocals are clearer in the dt770, in the dt880 are somewhat warm in comparison. What amp do you have?
I have a RNHP and a Dark Voice. i liked the dt880 a lot better on the dark voice. helped with the body and bass. They are so treble centric headphones. So the dark voice is very good for them lol
Thanks for the info I was thinking of buying them but i think you warned me off.
Have you tried the DT1990? does it have the same problem?
I used my dt880 600ohm with my liquid spark and they give them a good bass boost. I cannot imagine what tubes could do!
I have the dt770 250ohm, dt880 600ohm and dt1990 right now.
The dt770 is a good headphone when you need closed back and bass rumble.
The dt880 is a good entry to beyerdynamic sound. You can used them as reference for other beyer.
The dt1990 is an awesome headphone. I like it. But, is no for me. The dt1990 with the A- sound like a brighter, tighter dt880. ( i find my dt880 600 with black pad more mellow and relaxing.). The dt1990 with the B-pads sound closer to a dt990 250ohm. The bass sometimes sound booming, but it is still quality bass not distorted loose bass.
The dt1990 is a nice upgrade to the dt880 technical wise. But the sound presentation can be too much for somepeople. The forward presentation is good for studio and maybe wake up, or energy boost! they dont fatigue me, but i felt i was being overwhelmed sometimes.
I am selling all my beyers, dt770,dt880 and dt1990. I will keep my t1.2nd.
The t1.2 on tubes is great lol, imo the best beyers for a tube
I like aggressive headphones. just as long as the DT1990 has body. it really bugs me when its absent like on the DT880.
i know . Let see if I manage to sell the current gear and buy an tube amp.
But, I also want to try every beyer.

Tell me a headphone you had that have body so I can compared. The dt1990 might not have the body you are looking. Let ask @M0N
Elex, ebony, meze 99, 1more triple, hd600, aiva, arya, auteur. pretty much every headphone ive heard except the dt880’s. also the audio technica adx900
I just think you honestly might not like the beyer signature, the t1.2 might solve that for you but imo I think you would be better off looking elsewhere for what you tend to enjoy
I just think the whole lack of body thing is because how cheap it is. I dont think the DT1990 will have the same problem. I really like the signature. which makes me want to get the DT1990
That’s exactly what I thought!
I like the beyer sound for bass and treble, with recess clear mids ( not warm, not shouty). All the beyer don’t fatigue me as oppose to something like akg or Sennheiser.
Just got this headphone and it is awesome. i love it. but its treble is a little too high. im trying to use EQ to control it. which frequencies should i turn down to take the bite out of this headphone? i’m using EQ APO
