đŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic DT880 600Ω

Haha yeah schitt has literally nothing in stock.
The arcam is very rare on the used marked. Have only seen one used in quite a long time. There are actually new ones up to buy, but they cost about 550€ which is too much.
The Lake people go for around 250, maybe a bit more on ebay.
Good to hear its @M0N approved  :ok_hand:

Maybe I am thinking uk availability, that’s probably it lol

It’s a very solid amp, really nice with the 880 (and most headphones)

For the 880 in particular :+1: :+1:

Hi hope everyone is great today! I just purchased the Beyerdynamic A20 specifically for running the 600 ohm 880. I’m starting to maybe have a little buyer remorse lol has anyone listen to this combo? Will be using bit frost 2 for my dac. Also have the T1.

It’s pretty solid, I don’t think you will be disappointed imo, it’s a good pairing :+1:

Thanks that eases my mind a bit lol. The power for 600 ohm was really what was worrying me.

Yeah you shouldn’t have any issues with that imo

Is there pads for these that doesn’t change the sound signature too much (I don’t mind if they tone down the highs a bit though)? The pads on these are definitely not for me; my ears are too damn big.

There are definitely deeper pads - Dekoni or ZMF Ori come to mind - but you might have trouble finding pads with a larger radius that fit snugly. Brainwavz oval pads fit fine, though I haven’t really compared the sound signatures.

The black 250 ohm versions are a better pairing for the Asgard 3 than the 600ohm

Hot take lol

After listening to these for a good while, I’d say overall these are pretty great for the price. I’d say they sound more like $300+ cans rather than $200. But I wouldn’t describe them as mind blowing like Zeos did lol.
Regarding tonality, I see why DMS compared them the HD800 in his review. They are neutral-bright with lean sounding bass. For my preferences, they’re a bit too bright for most of the music I listen to. But otherwise the tuning is quite good. I find they work best with your typical well-mastered audiophile stuff rather than heavy metal or pop (in my case).
For amps I mainly used the Asgard 3. I also tried them on the Hagerman Tuba for a bit. But I only found it to be a slight improvement over the Asgard 3 if at all. I wish I had an OTL tube amp to test it with.

When I bought them, I was hoping they could fill some niche in my collection—or that they would be good for poorly mastered stuff like a HD600. That wasn’t really the case mainly due to its brightness. For my own headphone use-case categories, these fall into the same group as my HD800S and Clear. So I will be selling them since I don’t have much reason to keep them.

The black 250 ohm versions are different. A bit more bass and not as sharp treble which works more with the music I listen to which is heavy and extreme metal and hip hop. You may like those more.

That’s interesting. I thought everyone preferred the 600 ohm version. Aside from a bit different tonality, did you notice any other differences?

I don’t have a pair of 600ohm to compare. My main issue with the 600ohm beyers is that they distort and this is when plugged into the asgard 3. I’ve had 4 different pairs of 600ohm beyers, 2 of them dt880, the other 2 were T1.2 and all of them had distortion when driven off of the asgard 3. The dt1990 (which is 250ohm) and my current pair of dt880 don’t have any distortion issues.

The gray pads are thinner than the black pads on my pair. I think the thickness has an effect on the sound signature. I’ll swap my gray pads on later to see if there is any change in its sound.
