šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic T1 Gen2

Well I can say still really enjoying it. Also tried it with my Sundaras not bad either.

BTW, selling my Asgard 3 now in the Buying/Selling thread. I canā€™t listen to that one anymore lol. Donā€™t see the point in owning both now.

Ohā€¦ looks like you saw that haha

You were right on the Fenestrated, brother.

I see exactly what you mean when you are doing straight b2b2b testing on the same tracks.

Yea they are great. Pretty comfy like I said. Are you ears getting a bit spicy, how is that doing for ya?

So i picked up the Dekoni Elite Velours because ive found them in stock in germany, so no stress here. I decided to try these because they are not so expensive and they are not leather. Sounds good what you guys said about the fenestrated but i didnt wanted to pay so much for pads now and ā€¦ leather
Maybe i will try them anyways in the future.

They improved the comfort enough that im ok with it now. My right ear is for sure less annoyed than before. I still love the T1.2 soundwise with these pads and the slight changes are okay for the improved comfort. They still sound like T1.2

I wanted to shut off my pc and relax on my couch, but now its 3 hours later and im still listening to my T1s.- Thats all i can say

Velours are quite nice on them, but I definitely prefer the Suedes over the velour

I have tried my zmf suedes and I didnā€™t really liked them, but I havenā€™t really listened that long to them. Maybe I will try them again

Hmmā€¦ yea tried the suedes on the Gen 2, seems it tilts the frequency towards there being more low end and less treble. Made it rather warm sounding. Even more so than the Gen 3 to me. Think I still prefer the fenestrated pads.

Makes me laugh, honestlyā€¦

I like these as well. Depends on what Iā€™m listening to though ya know?

The real question is do you guys cut out the center on the dekoni pads or just leave it as is

Not sure why someone would do this to their pads considering they can fit more than one headphoneā€¦ pads aint cheap. Definitely do not cut mine out.

i dunno maybe to see how it sounds since the stock pads have nothing in the center either.
I may try it to see the difference since i prefer the suede dekonis

Well I guess I can answer my own question. The dekoni suedes increased the comfort a whole lot like 50% more.

With the center the treble is brought down a bit but the mids sound too recessed and the bass increases.

Without the center the treble is brought back up but the mids are still recessed and the bass is about the same.

For me the suede pads change the T1.2 sound too much. I liked the increase bass but not the rest. So back to the original pads for me

I may have sacrificed the Dekoni Suedes :skull: that I had on my 1770 Pro but it revived my ZMF Ori Suedes which i havent used in over a year. Now the 1770 are even more comfortable :+1:

How would you compare the 1770s and the T1.2 sound-wise? Is the T1 a step up?

I have the 1770s and use the leatherette pads and love them, but was considering a new Beyer for Christmas.

different strokes. Your comparing an open back vs a closed back and a rather sharp V signature(1770) to more of a bright relaxed signature with some bass(Not alot, T1). T1 definitely wins on midsā€¦ as for lows and highs thats definitely down to preference. Granted T1 most definitely has more scaling and power requirement due to being 600 ohms and responds extremely well to tube amps due to this as well. 3rd gen well, I would just say watch DMS review on that oneā€¦ its completely different in signature. I canā€™t really say T1.2 is a step up considering the differences in my opinionā€¦ though I definitely like it a hell of a lot more than 1770 but I preferred the 177x GO over the 1770 by a long shot

This is the bit Iā€™m looking for. I donā€™t want a step up, but I do want something to compliment my current lineup. My other main headphone, the r70x, might be a closer comp, but few people here have experience with it (I think).

My main objective is a great treble-oriented headphone. Lots of detail, lots of air and sparkle.

Yes, the 1770 is definitely the red-headed stepchild of the Beyer lineup.

just treble and detail? well the beyers are definitely that for sure but if you prefer just a fantastic bright signatureā€¦ also donā€™t discount the Hifimanā€¦ I would definitely toss Sundara and Ananda in there in that regard considering just how much more air they have compared to the beyersā€¦ their mids and highs sound fantastic but they arenā€™t the best for bass but their detail and texture is superb

I felt that the T1 just kind of replaced the 1770 for me not so much complimented it as it sort of has that V shape but with the mids still involvedā€¦ so it has a nice balance to it despite being bright.

Thanks for mentioning a few others; will definitely read up. I donā€™t want a one trick pony, though. Has to be good for most modern music, including hip-hop.

Also I really like Beyer. And the Ninja Editions are looking :fire:

Ok so which one?

2nd gen. No different between ninja black and the regular color. 1st gen was more like neutral bright and 3rd gen is the complete opposite signature which is extremely warm

Yeah weā€™re on the same page thereā€¦

I was pointing out that you contradicted yourself and wanted clarification on 1770 v T1.2. On the one hand you said they are so different you canā€™t call T1.2 a step up, on the other you say T1.2 replaced 1770 (i.e. itā€™s definitely a step up). So which one is it?

I wouldnā€™t call that contradictory more of a misunderstanding. I donā€™t see it as a step up just different. T1 is Less bass, more present mids, smoother highs, larger open airy soundstage. That sort of thing. Different stroke of headphone but they are still relatively similar in some aspects such as both bring brightā€¦ bass increased above neutral, larger soundstages even though open vs closed back. wouldnā€™t say ā€œupgradeā€ as that would infer that one is better than the otherā€¦ itā€™s more preference based so I canā€™t really make a call on thatā€¦ For me personally it was the T1 over the 1770. Some people prefer a stronger V shape like a 1770 rather than a more balanced relaxed yet still bright signature like the T1.

In terms of detail retrieval though and treble presence? I would lean towards the T1 in that regard as itā€™s also not so peaky as the 1770s granted they are both very bright sounding

lows: 1770 has more bass than T1. Mids T1 has more mids as 1770 is recessed. Highs: 1770 has a peakier rather a bit sharper presence in the highs due to the closed back nature and a lot of detail to it while T1 has added air and a smoother sound. Presence: 1770 are aggressive T1 are relaxed and more laid back. Soundstage 1770 is rather large for a closed back T1 has the curved drivers and a natural airier more spacious sound due to its design. Imaging: relatively close on that. Seperation: both are incredibly good but I liked the airy approach to the T1 being involved with all the instruments and their respective sounds. Detail Retrieval: both are very good on thisā€¦ the added air and detail retrieval of the T1 plus the more laid back signature drove me to lean towards itā€¦ but the 1770 is no slouch eitherā€¦ it does very well in this regard I just donā€™t like how all that brightness is rather centered to my head due to closed backā€¦ makes it rather fatiguingā€¦ granted I felt 1770 was more detailed in the long run unless you pair the T1.2 to a high tier setupā€¦ of which then the T1 comes out in front on that in my opinion.

Not the best at sound descriptions, hopefully that makes some sense. They are more side grades. The only form of ā€œupgradeā€ I will definitely call as I see is that the T1 scales to a absolute ridiculous degree and actually will grow with your setup just like the DT 880s do. The 1770s much like the 1990s will not scale to this degree like at all
