šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic T1 Gen2

Which headband did you buy? Sounds like you are not talking about the original one.

I was thinking of taking the real leather headband of the T1.1 because it should be more sturdy than the fake leather one on 2nd gen (mine is falling apartā€¦)

https://dekoniaudio.com/product/dekoni-audio-choice-series-replacement-headband-for-beyerdynamic-headphones/

Yea I would probably only use this for the DT880 or the TGYR when I need to later down the road. (Also probably be used for Grado headphones)

Ah didnt know dekoni has a headband as well. Nice to know!

Never really lookedā€¦ not sure how youā€™d remove t1 headband

home, listened with the padsā€¦ the warmthā€¦ ALL the warmth, every bit of itā€¦ holy hell they are on the level of my 3rd gens. Weird though, dekonis graph shows more present highs and midsā€¦ I am not getting thatā€¦ going to tinker a bitā€¦ the soundstage soundsā€¦ wider? no deeperā€¦ this isā€¦ honestly weird

like the bass sounds to be damn near maxed out with these padsā€¦ no form of eq neededā€¦ the T1 here becomes practically a rumbling cannon, I think what I am hearing is the overwhelming warmth from the midsā€¦ treble sounds like it took a hit

edit: cranked asgard 3 up to 3 oclockā€¦ yep there we goā€¦ soundstage definitely absolutely sounds deeper(think 3rd gen T1 or planar like)ā€¦ bass is textured as hell, mids have a ton of warmth behind them like they sound deep and rich yet pushed in the back behind the bass and treble, treble is up there above neutral but extremely smooth now I barily notice itā€™s pushed up. Bass has the emphasis with these padsā€¦

Edit 2: connected to 1990 that graph is correct but to an extent. The mids are absolutely more emphasizedā€¦ the treble is also absolutely biggerā€¦ infact I had to eq that peak back a few decibels as it became too muchā€¦ other than that, beautifulā€¦ whatā€™s weird is that the T1 and 1990 respond to these pads COMPLETELY different, from what I assume is the internal acoustics and design

less im wrong, looks like you cannot properly change the headband here on the T1 2nd genā€¦ anyone got any info on this? I know you can change 1990 and other of the DT series, also tygrā€¦ but amiron and T1 appearā€¦ to have this as a slight issue

Also got the pads earlier todayā€¦ the comfort is beyond netero, wtf how can a beyer be so comfy. Consider me initially impressed.

Bass: damn, just the right amount of warmth, not bass cannon like the brainwavz XL suedes, but better defined.

Mids: Warmer than stock, this affects the timbre. Iā€™m getting a better sense of instrument separation which makes the vocals better. Mids sound more ā€œnaturalā€ with more body, but less ā€œdetailedā€ as in less trebley.

Treble: Definitely smoothed out, again a little less detailed but this is exactly what I wanted.

I consider the differences in the mids and treble subtle; Bass is the big winner here, slams and rumbles effortlessly unlike stock and XL suede pads.

Edit: Imma have to give the bass cannon certificate to the t1.2 with the choice hybrids, in a cleaner way than brainwavz

i was wondering the same thing and was also thinking of getting something to protect the existing band if we canā€™t swap it out.

I actually had to find a solution even if its short term. I had a ZMF Co-Pilot Pad laying around.

The T1.2 and the Amiron Homeā€™s headband is too thick for the Co-pilot so I just placed the bottom half of the Co-Pilot underneath the headband and held it in place as I placed the headphone on my head.

Itā€™s not the best but it keep my head from touching the headband.

Got ZMF Ori suede pads on monday and been comparing them with the dekoni choice hybrids.

The zmf pads are heavy and not as soft as dekonis, but because they are angled still more comfy than stock.

The bass with the ZMF is more impactful but less rumbly, both kinda make the t1.2 into a bass cannon, the ZMFs a bit more than the dekonis

The ZMFs get the timbre of the vocals and mids better than dekonis, closer to stock pads, but because of the massive amount of bass they feel less resolving, I prefer ZMF, the lower mids feel boosted on the choice hybrids.

ZMFs highs are brighter than dekonis, but still less detailed/impactful than stock.

Soundstage feels on par with stock pads, but the bass kicks take a lot of its space so its different. On this regard the dekonis have a noticeably bigger soundstage.

My conclusion is, the stock pads are the best sounding, clearer and brighter. But both pads swaps are more fun, as I dont have any other bass cannon and their comfort is better I will be using them more.

@falenkor may I ask, how do you compare the pad swapped gen 2s with the gen 3s? Are they comparable?

The pad swapped 2nd gens can absolutely get very close to the signature of the 3rdsā€¦ but they arenā€™t quite the sameā€¦ the 3rd gen is extremely warm without much of a treble presence reallyā€¦ the natural signature of the 2nd gen makes the treble airy and present while relaxed meanwhile it seems the 3rd gen was tuned to be centered around the lows and mids instead. At the same time, the 3rd gen has very firm pads in comparison and much more clamping force which can get annoyingā€¦ as I had to stretch the living hell out of mine for about 2 weeks before it finally gave in to being more comfortable

sounds like they are very good at what they do, but very different. thanks

They are very good but definitely cater to different peopleā€¦ honestly at first I thought the 3rd gen was closed cause how it feels and sounds lol. They are noticeably heftier than 2nd gen too. I like them but not for 1k price tag

I have read the entire thread on Head-Fi about the 3rd gen T1.Some people there really like them.Got me more curious about them tbhā€¦I have to try them out at some point in the near future. Just because its beyerdynamic and a T1ā€¦They are about 850 open Box from Beyer with 60 days return policy, so easy return if i donĀ“t like them. I have to wait a bit more before i pull the trigger on one, but its for sure my next purchase. I sometimes have the feeling that my 2nd Gen might fatigue meā€¦not sure on that topic, but could be. Still love it tho

@Alfredo3001 Now I got the dual 3.5mm from Hart Audio and it doesnā€™t fit in the T1.2, did you have any trouble getting them in?

It seems like it would fit but I get no sound at all :frowning:

Not at all! Try it with another headphone. Mine fits fine

The cables work fine on other headphones, it looks like they are just a bit away from fitting completely, maybe the 3.5mm jack is shorter because of factory variance, they look like 1mm shorter than the beyer jacks.

anyway this is dissapointing  ill keep using the stock cable for now

Also note that I canā€™t force them in, I wonder if I should contact hart or just let it be

So looks like you are using the HC-9 cable that is meant for the Focal Headphones. The one that looks like @Alfredo3001 owns is a different one that I also own that works for the T1 2nd and 3rd gen which is the:

HC-9 Dual 3.5mm Mono TS Balanced Headphone

This is why you are not hearing any sound. You might want to reach out to the folks at Hart Audio and see if they will let you trade in the one you bought for the correct one that you need.

If they donā€™t have it in stock then try the one from Periapt Cables:
