Just got these. I am listening to psychedelik electronic internet radio. I like them.
Listening through a orchard audio pecan pi Dac/streamer ----> kinky vision thr1 amp.
Its a really nice sound. I know Im late to the party here. Just had to share this is a really set up.
Psychedelic is one of the easiest music genre for a headphone/speaker, so no suprise a T1 can handle that.
Maybe so I wouldnāt know. Im old and all this is new to me. These things are sounding really nice. I have listened to Modern jazz from Joshua Redman too with a really nice experience. I can see myself exploring all genres of music because it is really immersive. Maybe you could suggest a more āchallengingā genre of music.
Edit: I looked at your page of music you like. Interesting and very similar to some of the stuff I find these headphones are really presenting well.Especially the latter material
Wanted to chime in here about some informationā¦ might reach out to beyer sometime but apparently there is a small defect with the T1ās. so the headbands foam can become undone and exposed where it connects to the housings metal arch. Looks like bad glue or somethingā¦ whatever the case is, itās an obvious design flaw and the 3rd gen also has this same design so I would think it may be safe to assume this as again a potential design flaw. People have been quoted up to $300 to repair a T1ās headband as it is -not- replaceable through normal means like the dt series is where its just a couple screwsā¦ the headband is fitted using glue and a different designā¦ $300 just to fix a headband is insanity but in order for them to āfixā the t1 headband the top piece must be replaced using all oemā¦ its a very stupid design imoā¦
However, I will say that the T1ās headband dimensions are that of other beyersā¦ if your headband goes bad, I will simply say you can take off the headband(you will have to cut it off and its glue thats underneath has to come offā¦ not hard to do honestly just be careful) and replace it with that of the DT series or dekoniā¦ therefore saving yourself quite a lot of money if this becomes a serious issue for youā¦ the T1 series headband will eventually give out it just takes a long timeā¦ but a defect where the foam literally starts coming out is quite the issue. there has been confirmations from others that even the aftermarket headbands for the beyer dt series will fit on the T1ā¦ and quite snuggly at that.
uploaded by another person with this exact issue of the headphoneā¦
Mine doesnt have the same issue that you have, but the headband is crap nonethelessā¦I have the T1.2 since about 6months I think and use it almost daily. Headband was fine when I got it, now itās completely degradedā¦I will probably try to replace it in the future, but is it worth it if the new headband will do the same quickly? Thatās the question. I donāt know. Your take on it to just replace it with something else is not a bad idea. Have thought about getting some headband cover like I have it for my clearsā¦since itās already fucked, I donāt care that much at the momentā¦
@Falenkor I have a question for you!
I have been following the Focal clear MG thread. You mention a shootout between Focal and Beyers. Are you planning to post it?
I want to try the Focal open back. Coming from a T1.2nd any comparison? What I like about the t1.2nd and Beyer 600ohm are the attack and slam.
Lol that would take a rather long write up. I should have some time to voice a bit of thoughts on the weekend. Very different cans thoughā¦ which one are you Considering? The mg?
Great! The MG is out of my price range. I am thinking maybe the clear OG at 990$, or try the Elex first and decide from it. The problem with the Elex is the QC issues. The Elex is 600$ rn and there is a used one for 500$. Reading the comments at Drop, it seems that after failure you can ask for full refund.
I hear ya on the elex. Have seen several with issues. If I have time friday Iāll see about doing a small shoot out. Its alot thoughā¦ I have experience with all beyers and most of focal nowā¦ I adore focal but they definitely arenāt going to replace my t1.
Focal Elex:
Pros: insane levels of clarity, quite incredible value for its price tag especially if bought used and in working order, impressive levels of imaging, vocal lovers will appreciate this headphone especially if they appreciate clarity, those who appreciate brighter characteristics will also find enjoyment in this headphone, Comfort is extremely top notch, build is built like a cheaper luxury item(focals further up like clear are built much more elegantly)
Cons: Cable is atrocious and should be burned, quality control issues galore get your shit together, not available everywhere due to drop constraints, high frequencies can cause discomfort and potential sibilance, bass feels a little lacking compared to others but is still there this mainly depends on the music your listening to, pad replacements are insanely expensive less buying elex pads through drop even then they are very pricey, pads donāt take long to show wear
Impressions from me: This was the first focal I tried. Mind you I listen to the T1 on the regular as its one of my daily drivers so going from that to this was a hell of a changeā¦ The elex definitely didnāt have the soundstage of the T1 but it wasnāt particular small eitherā¦ instead it kind of flexes like a strangely shaped bubble depending on what your listening to or whats going on. At the same time the way this headphone presents its sound is extremely aggressiveā¦ this headphone is like practically taking your head and shoving it down a persons throat into their vocal cords hearing it loud and clearā¦ it has this extremely intimate and aggressive approach to its sound all the while having a good size stage which makes it to say the least rather odd at first. The T1 definitely presents itself as a brighter headphone frequency wise but due to the nature of how the elex presents itself I have more potential sharpness coming off the elexā¦ however the mids are out of this world on this headphoneā¦ I just wish the bass was more involved and it had a slightly warmer less sparkling approach. Needless to say though the elex is insanely detailed and not what I would call a relaxed laid back headphone for the more casual listener. This headphone in particular is for those who appreciate the sennheisers sound and want to go to focal but then see the clears over there with that crazy price tagā¦ as this particular headphone gets you like 90% maybe higher of the way there to the clear for less than half its costā¦ which is why I say this particular headphone is one hell of a deal and absolutely worth trying if you can get a working copy
Focal Clear:
Pros: a bit more laid back than the elex so its not as sharp, treble now has a different more metallic tonality to it which can be a hit or miss but I find it a bit of a charm in the headphone with this, just as good on the soundstage but now its more apparent, better imaging, mids and highs are now the centerpoint here instead of the more balanced approach of the elex
Cons: for christ sakes for this much money why is the cable still trash?, still can have some quality control issues mine had clipping or popping at certain frequencies in the bass, the metallic sound can throw people off if they prefer that much more natural timbre in the highs others may just find this rather uncomfortable, the bass is more recessive compared to the elex
Impressions from me: I think the metallic tonality of this headphone while kinda fits with it decently well for me was a miss from focal. The headphone is superbā¦ everything feels like a small step above the elex outside of the bass but even in the bass the sound is tighter and has more definition. There is more clarity to be had here and noticeable changes in the soundstage to really bring out more characteristics and detail in the sounds that would be pushed in the back a bit too much with the elex due to just how aggressive elex can be. Overall, its definitely a cut above but its not something I would say is worth well over $1000 when the elex gets you about this far for around $400-$500.
Focal Clear MG
Pros: Top shelf favorite from me and that takes a lot, gone is the lacking bass of the clear and its more apparent closer to the elex, gone is the overly aggressive nature everything is much more balanced, it takes a warmer approach while still maintaining that extremely clear and vibrant tonality that comes from a focal, soundstage is still up there but now there is a noticeable increased depth to its sound, imaging is superb and practically on point, the build quality on this thing is immaculately gorgeous and definitely worth writing about
Cons: Seriously focalā¦ WITH THE CABLE!, expensive for what can potentially be written off as rather marginal changes from elex and og clear, pads on mg and og clear are expensive at $200 and with these pads and og pads dirt and grime shows big time, both this and og clear do not respond well to pad swaps it seems, headclamp is a little heftier on the mg and it fits a bit differently so may need stretched.
Comparing this to the T1ā¦ I think the levels of clarity coming from the focals are quite superbā¦ beyer has quite literally nothing on this and just doesnāt really compete as these are on the level of like the esp 95x and others that are known for such levels of clarity. The way they present sound is a bit more natural at the same time all three have much less soundstage than the T1 were talking like less than around 70% so they are quite intimate and closer to the average open back soundstage with the elex being the one with the least due to how it presents itself. As far as the brightest one that would be elex followed by clear and T1 then mg as the least. Levels of imaging are very close and a bit too close to callā¦ levels of separation was quite interesting as none of them did particular bad but the elex performed the worst at this with sounds that were a bit further out and did jumble them a bit.
Do I think the Focals are worthwhile? Absolutely but I would still encourage at the least to TRY elex firstā¦ if you get similar reactions such as maybe its just a bit too sharp and aggressive and your okay with stepping up to a clearā¦ check out the clear and if you get that metallic is a bit annoying maybe try out the mg but I wouldnāt recommend jumping the gun immediately. Personally I think if someone is a big fan of say like a 6xx or 660s sennheiser then its even more so worth while to check out the Focals as I found them to be such a big upgrade. Mind you I have yet to sit with the HD800S vs the Clears thats to comeā¦ but the Elex at $400-$500 its simply competing with the beyers here. Its definitely different strokes and they compliment one another quite well. For me personally I definitely preferred the MG over the others but thats because I found more use in more genres with itā¦ that shining aggression off the elex just became rather tiresome
I tried to write this short and to the points in most cases so I dont ramble and so it didnt take me long as i am quite a bit busy so hopefully this gets the point across a bit
Thank you so much!
I really appreciate it!
I wanted to wait until Sep or Aug. But, I donāt want to miss the Elex deal or the Clear OG sold out for good.
If you want to just cover it up there is a knitted headband cover from GEVO that fits its perfectly.
I used it for the T1.2, Amiron Home and DT1770 Pro.
It fits very well and much improved from previous versions.
GEVO Replacement Headphone Headband Cover for AKGs, Senheiser, Sony,ATH,Audio-Technica,Shure,Panasonice,Headband Cushion Easy Installation No Tool Needed(Black)
Thanks for the tipp, but i think its not availiable in germany, but i already have one from geekria for my clears and i think they have one that fits the T1.2ā¦Its degrading more and more, definetly need to buy one now
I skipped two stepsā¦ I went directly to the Focal clear MG pro.
There was an amazing deal I couldnāt resist! It should be here by the end of the week or next week.
Hah, yeah I figured. T1 2nd have such a special place for me. Though I do hope your enjoying the clear mg. I think they compliment each other quite well, though seriouslyā¦ dude replace that focal cable lol itās junk
I am trying the full focal experience first
I wasnāt as entranced or intrigued by focals lineup as I was with beyer. Focals lineup has their house sound which is quite strong honestly and their lineup sounds very similar between one another.
Still, I am on the hunt to see if something can replace my T1 here. Hifiman just doesnāt cut it. I appreciate hifiman after all I own the arya but its more complimenting towards a 2nd gen t1 than it is replacing it on my wall. The closest was the hd800s honestly but that one trick pony just didnāt cut itā¦ I am curious about the drop variant though since it has more bass tones and the like. on another side note, I may have the empyrean in the works to be tried here fun times all round
focal mg was what I expected the 3rd gen to come out to be for T1ā¦ just wish the mg had a wider soundstage its rather intimate
My next headphone purchase is going to be the hd800s or the hd8xx. I am intrigue by the Arya! I want a planar compliment. I switch once in a while between my t1.2nd and the he5xx.
I posted my Clear MG pro for sell. Technical wise is amazing and impressive. But, the intimate soundstage is a deal breaker for me. I heard the dynamic in focal headphones was impressive which intrigue me at first. After using it for a while (RNHP and G111) I could not get the crazy slam I was hoping. It has better bass extension than the t1.2nd. But there is something in the frequency response of the t1.2nd, and beyers in general that bass impact that is addictive, drums sound amazing. I was looking for an impactful dynamic driver.
I liked the T1.3rd bass. was more engaging than the clear MG.
lol you want a tube amp for that one. Tubes on focals are a bit nutty depending on the amp and tube but man does it make them warm.
arya need a bass bump is my issue. rather recessive. All the special tonality is in those mids and highs topped with the airy large soundstage and holographic imaging
id keep the 3rd genā¦ if the pads werent so damn stiff lol. Like rocks on my head
