Are you buying them for a tube amp or something smaller?
I have the Darkvoice, Asgard 3 with the included multibit card and the Modius. Also have the iFi Zen can with the Topping D50s. So I will be playing for a bit before I say too much.
Curious to hear what you think about tube use. 600 Ohm to 32 Ohm seems like a HUGE change.
Iām thinking the DV wonāt be the ideal way to tube these low z or hybrid would likely be more suitable
I do have the liquid platinum of course in houseā¦ my favorite reliable hybrid that I pair to my bifrost 2. I planned to give it a whirl see how it sounds.
is it bad that I am mad mine got so delayed? lol.
I no longer have darkvoice but I do have the asgard 3 and bifrost 2 as well as ifi zen dac, ifi xdsd, spark, magni, among some other things here and there like I can try seeing how it handles just being used by the FOX microphone.
My delivery says sometime tomorrow. Hopefully sometime in the morning to afternoon.
I will get around to it. I plan to use it exclusively over the weekend seeing how I will be off work.
This is not a review, just a few quick thoughtsā¦
So I am just going to mention a few thingsā¦ and one that is currently bothering meā¦ this āclamp is too strongā. And it didnāt help that the pads on this thing are, while foam, is the more stiffer kind. With those two combinations I had to throw on some dekoni velour earpads. While it may change the sound signatureā¦ it was a slight difference, but for me maybe a bit better? More on that latter.
The other issue is the cable. It is sorta like those focal cables. Not as stiff, but it is just like them in the way it is a flat sleeve cable and can do that annoying thing where if it loops you have to mess with it a bit.
I will need to let my ears acclimate a bit more with the sound of this headphone.
hmm, may need to take a time out for a bit and let it stretch out a little same with the cable.
Yea going to do a bit of that. Let them stretch over night on the box it came with. The cable might be fine over time too, if I was to let it relax a bit. Ohā¦ and it is long btw.
Probably what I will do but we will see when I get themā¦ more head clamp can change things as well like bass. Granted they did say this has more bass so maybe thats one of the changes for the extra bass responseā¦ skull crushing headclamp and firmer pads lol. I do wish beyer would add some memory foam velour though.
I mean, I know some people hate long cables for reasons but I prefer themā¦ these 2-3 feet long cables just donāt work for me
Yea itās just that they are currently hanging off my desk to where I have rolled over it a few times already. Just know I am gonna get up and the I go one way the headphones go another lol.
You gave them a quick listen yet? Any brightness this time around?
So I will sayā¦ IMO comparing this to the Tygr, the Tygr is brighter if that gives you any idea. I am also going to say this reminds me of listening to the Nighthawks where you need some time with these. They are some dark sounding headphones.
Gotta say, I definitely wasnāt expecting to hear that considering the last two generations. Not sure how I feel on beyer discontinuing the T1.2 which is amazing then discontinuing it to go to a Dark headphoneā¦ Wouldnāt be the first time though they tuned the headphone to be Dark the other I distinctly remember was Custom one pro plus had some dark traits.
Yea I am going to be real curious what you think of these.
There are times with certain songs these sound great and then others where it isnāt great. Might be how the track is recorded maybe, not sure. There are also times I am likeā¦ āwhere is the soundstageā and then other times I am like āthere it isā. This might be due to the overall warmth I am hearing from the headphone. Againā¦ might just need some getting use to.
lol maybe I should have sat with my nighthawks for a long time. Well, I do have some lcd-2 as well as my nighthawks so dark signatures I am pretty used to at this point.
thatās oddā¦ sounds like what people say with the Focal Elex with its strange adaptive soundstage.
Could be, but one of the other people who made a review on these said the same comparing to the LCD where he felt this gen 3 T1 just didnāt hit home right.with itās signature. I thought he was crazy for bringing an audeze in for comparison to a beyer guess not.
Yea was it from this review here? https://majorhifi.com/beyerdynamic-t1-vs-t5-3rd-gen-review/
I saw him talk about that as well. I think he might be right.
Steve Guttenberg was the one bringing in the audeze and saying he felt the audeze did things better but others I have seen so far are essentially saying close to the same that this is a bit of a miss
Subjective points of view though. Will see for myself.
Hmmā¦ using the 3D feature on the iFI Zen Can with these is something of an improvement. Brings the high-end up and widens it. It is giving it some impressive soundstage.
Interesting to hear that. I have the xdsd(granted I kind of dislike this thing and probably getting rid of it) which has that 3d modeā¦ guess I will give that a shot. I wonder if the liquid platinum can open up that soundstage like it does with the 2nd gen. That or maybe the asgard as they both have good spatial.
Curious since this is the route they took for the T1 if beyer has another headphone under the hood right now.
going to be rather annoying for people to have to dig around to find a T1.2 if they want oneā¦ I guess fidelio X3 is a decent cheap alternative but it definitely doesnāt take its place.
