Yea I was listening to the headphone with the Asgard 3 most of the day, but the zen can with the 3d feature help increase the highs. Which feels like it needs a little bit more there.
On another note, the wire actually seems to have behave some now. So I guess it aināt that bad
Holy mother of darkness!
I know how people feel about graphs. I personally donāt pay attention to graphs. If I like how it sounds I am good
Dt1990 balanced pads

T1v3 looks like a bassy boi!
TYGR 300 R looks pretty damned linear, but I canāt help but to chuckle at that targets flat response from 1k down.
Whereās the bass (of crinacle target)?
If I am understanding this right, I believe he is using something close to the Harman AE/OE 2017 Target
More information should be in this post you can control F to the āThe IEF Neutral Targetā
I donāt agree with his flat response for bass, but Iām glad to see he now has legitimate measuring equipment.
Iām also glad heās displaying the raw measurements as well. Iām not a fan of compensated graphs.
Thanks for the link.
Cheers!
Got mine in today as of this morning. Initial thoughts later
well that is interesting isnāt itā¦ That really is much darker but I appreciate them keeping the bass and mids up there. Granted I wouldāve preffered more in the upper mids that dip is pretty harsh. Though a lot of times I see conflicting view points when it comes to Crinacle graphsā¦
Well, now this headphone is incredibly interestingā¦ I canāt really get my thoughts on this one except one thing I just realized. Hey @Rick_Jones if you feel comfortable with it. Pop off those pads and remove that inner filter. Itās just held in by the little snap on piece under the pad. Give it a listen after that. Will chime in more on this headphone later
You two are certainly quick to mod these lol
hmmā¦ yea I think you are onto something here. I think the damping is a bit too much. Man that filter is thick too!
well, after dealing with the 990s and modifying them to be dark. Then modifying the Tygrs taking them apart to see whats causing the soundstage and seeing if I couldnāt brighten them up, only to realize it was just the dampening filter and really the tygrs are essentially just the dt 990 in disguise. I thought okay, since this is another generation to the T1 that filter is now thereā¦ let me look at itā¦ sure enough this filter is thick as hell this time around so I took it off and gave it a rather quick listen.
Without the filter this sounds very close to that 2nd gen variation does it not?
Yea I canāt comment if it sounds like the T1.2 (I have never listen to it) butā¦ I can say I prefer it without the filter! Thanks for the suggestion
I feel sorry for your ears. lol
I like both but I havenāt really got my thoughts on it yet. Going to compare the T1.2 to this later. I put the filters back onā¦ They are rather easy to take off and put back on so thats nice. Two seperate signatures is a nice touch if you ask me.
Yea definitely.
Note, been using these since they had arrived at 7 AM. its now 5:30 PM. Initial thoughts as it took me a while to really figure this one out a bit.
Note these are INITIAL THOUGHTS this is by no means finished and is fully subject to change. It is my opinion. I will have a more thought out review later. this is me just skimming around with my thoughts on it so far.
Cables: Standard T1 cabling nothing particularly different here. Cable is the same length it appears(though I am not going to bother measuring both cables just know itās quite long). As expected cable is rather high quality of course you can get a better one or a balanced cable for it. Usual adapter and duel cable connectors.
Comfort: when @Rick_Jones mentioned head clamp he definitely wasnāt kidding. These clamp hard and hit the jaw line for me hard. It took me a bit these definitely do not feel like the same pads as the previous generation they are much much firmer this time. However, the same typical size right around 100 mm same thicknessā¦ These feel firm like the 1770 pads perhaps? pad swapping has adopted the 1990 method where you have the double lip and groove that you rotate the pad onto. Makes pad swapping kind of a pain in the neck in my opinion as 2nd gen didnāt have this you could just throw the pad on the lip and be done with it. With the original T1.2 the my ears could touch the inner portion of the pad closer to the driverā¦ the inner felt piece is now blocking that and is rather smooth so doesnāt really both me as someone with more elongated ears so bonus points for that as tygrs didnāt resolve that lol. The comfort is harsh out the gate and I think is pretty bad out the gate these definitely need stretched and pads broken in right out the gate. However, after a while I have gotten used to them.
Build quality: absolutely beautiful I prefer this design a lot more everything feels smooth to the touch a mixture of thick plastic and good grade metal with quite an incredible headband that looks like the 2nd gen but feels a little softer to me and it does look a little different and smoother. These thing just feels sturdy but rather light on the same levels as the other generations.
Soundstage: this one is honestly weird. Like mentioned earlier at times its hard to tell the soundstage width. However, after listening to it for a while I realized the reason I am having trouble is it really depends on what I am listening toā¦ the song made the sound a little different as did the amps I plugged it into with the asgard and Liquid platinum making it sound more spacious. The sound here is rather odd and I am not sure what they didā¦ but its definitely fully open back this time aroundā¦ that width is noticeably larger than the T1.2. I wouldnāt say on HD800S levels of large but I would say that amount of soundstage is a bit overkill anyway. Still, this is quite odd. I did get some changes upon some modifications which I will get into in a moment.
Sound Signature: Man this thing. Even for initial I have to really think carefully on this headphone.
Low End: The bass is tight, controlled, and punchy. It extends rather deep and sounds actually quite full unlike the other beyers in itās lineup such as 2nd gen or 1990. There is no bleed and itās not boomy either. I think this is what you would called the absolute extent of perfection for bass tuningā¦ any more than this and it might bleed. It however does feel a bit more emphasized, as in I feel it practically attacks you, than I think it should itās definitely a more warm headphone and this warmth is very noticeable in this headphones low mids. This tuning seems to really make the lows and lower mid frequencies shine. (subject to burn in changes / subject to modifications)
Mids: Well, I definitely canāt say they are recessed. They are quite present but they arenāt as forward as one would like in a more mid centric headphone. The vocals have a bit of a slight dark veil to them which over time I noticed was really just the treble causing this alongside that dip in the upper mids. It sounds actually good but this could be a hit or miss from my initial listening this one would definitely depend on preference. It has that nighthawk carbon effect on the mids if you own that it might help understand.
Highs: The hell is up with beyer on this? This is definitely sure as hell dark sounding. Like holy hell this is quite dark not what I expected from this company or the driver used. Still, quite nice. There is still detail to go around that just seems natural with the headphone and the headphone itself still seems transparent enough to be used. I did notice that with some amps it caused the dark sound to be way to much and veil everything and this was with those amps that are known to really roll off the treble further. I highly recommend something of a cleaner neutral variety of thisā¦ asgard worked fine here on the highs but liquid spark definitely did not it veiled the hell out of the sound for me Liquid platinum so far has been alright not sure why but it seems to be fussy about the spark and in some cases ifi zen dac.
Sound Signature: Warm and Dark mixed. Nighthawk Carbon style sound but tightened up with even more soundstage, transparency, and clarity. The sound signature here is something that will take someone some time even as initial thoughts I can definitely identify thatā¦ Especially if one is coming from the 2nd gen this variation is going to sound either completely terrible to you or throw you off entirely. Personally though I love the dark full sound this is providing out the gate however, in terms of warmth and clarity this loses to the LCD-2 and LCD-X for darker sounding headphones. It currently isnāt quite striking home for me right now.
Modifications: So this is incredibly interesting. Pad swaps it responds wellā¦ Sheepskins make the bass too boomy and bleeds it. Suedes work alright as do velour and perforationsā¦ however the darkness picks up by switching to something outside of velours this ones going to be picky. Biggest modification is that inner filter piece inside the ear cup seen in the pictures. I removed that and the headphone quite literally transformed itself in entiretyā¦ the entire sound signature changed the bass dropped back as well as the sub bass and fell back in line, the mids become forward and even more transparent even revealing, and suddenly that brightness is back that beyer house sound you come to expect is back it sounds like the 2nd gen with some alterations that are quite pleasantā¦ the bigger soundstage comes to play and is more noticeable like thisā¦ the pad swaps donāt inhibit the sound anymore this is quite interesting to see just one little piece of foam do thisā¦ some sort of magic maybe but both of these signatures are quite incredibleā¦ without the foam it sounds like a more refined T1.2 with the Foam it sounds like the T1.2 slept with a Nighthawk Carbon and had a $1000 beautiful child
All definite subject to change, I need to check out amps and burn these inā¦ definitely need to fix the clamp force and comfort of the pads. I need more time with these
I literally havenāt taken these things off even walking around the house with them. I will have my full thoughts after about 150 hours of burn in.
@Rick_Jones Pretty sure I am selling off my Tygrs for this one.
Yeaā¦ I can see that. If I sit with the T1.3 for a time, I can get use to the sound, np. (I prefer it without the damping.) I did a bit of switching back and forth between the Tygr and the T1.3 and the T1.3 does edge ahead, still going to be a bit more warmth, but a bit more resolving too.
This made me laugh btw. lol
It definitely is one of those that takes some time. Granted I am finding more enjoyment in it than my hawks which is surprising. However, LCD-2? Debateable at least for now.
this is a toss up currently, because I feel if someone doesnāt like itās stock sound but likes the T1.3 without that dampener they may be better off buying the 2nd gen considering how similar they are and the fact you stand to save potentially like $500 as even new the 2nd gen sells for around $500 - $600 and sometimes even cheaper.
if by a bit you mean quite a bit on the warmth than yeahā¦ that bass straight up attacks you when the dampeners are in least to my ears. Liquid Platinum in my opinion is a bit too warm so maybe tubes arenāt the best idea? Not sure if you have tested the dark voice. It sounds alright without dampeners on the LP. However, in terms of soundstage in imaging I am not sure on itā¦ too soon to call it currently so I canāt even give it gaming impressions as of yet. This could very well replace my T1.2, Tygrs, Nighthawks, and LCD-2 in one big swoop but not sure as of yet.
good to know I wasnāt making an old man joke moment and laughing at my own remark.
Yea I tested it briefly but not for an extended period of time. I wasnāt noticing much of a difference when comparing it to the Asgard 3. I would need to spend some time with it.
