So I got myself an AMP/DAC combo, the FiiO K3. The TYGRâs sound way better this way compared to using them with my Tomahawk B450 Max. The clarity improved a lot and the bass is less muddy.
Iâve been using them for a few hours a day and I got used a lot more to the sound. They sound a lot more like I expected in the beginning, like Beyerdynamics are supposed to sound. When I switch back to my old Steelseries 5Hv2 they sound terrible, they sound so fucking bright.
yeah, figured it was a case of needing an amp for it. Glad it was resolved, Granted I would have probably said to pick up the E10K instead as it doesnât have the balanced port, is cheaper, and has more power behind it. Less you get a balanced cable for a headphone that can actually be balanced, that particular amp definitely wonât be very strong. Highly recommend an upgrade down the road.
yeah, you will definitely get that with gaming headsets due to their ignorant tunings. Most gaming headsets will have quite a bit on the brightness to help be more viable in competitive gameplay but it generally sounds awful.

He is wrong on the pads. Those pads are the â990 VBâ from the DT 990 they also soften more with time they are built to be more firm out the gate. Best headband? Maybe actually I didnât really think about that. Then again T1.2 and Amiron Home have some amazing headbands.
Granted I took off my filters on my tygr and it becomes very bright. Just a 990 in disguise.

Yea I knew that he got it wrong on the pads. But was cool that he mentions using the DT 880 silver pads if folks would like an option. Personally I am good with the current pad on them. Really donât see the need to change them out.
for the tygrs in particular I would say really depends on if you leave the filters on them. If you take the filters out it becomes quite bright so I switched them out to dekoni suedes⊠quite lovely honestly in that regard. Only for those who can appreciate the brighter sound. That filter keeps the beyers from murdering your ears lol. I do really like the tygrs stock pads too though, canât really see changing them if the filters are on as everything else just sounds bad or boomy

2nd time I got a beyerdynamic headphone with the rattling issue. Last time was the 1770s. I would have been furious if the T1 3rd gen had that issue.
yea⊠that would of been rather irritating. Man you donât seem to have luck at times. I know you had a real problem with the Sundara⊠but then again⊠itâs Hifiman, hit or miss right?
Im looking for a good set to use with my ps4. sure i could put the 880 into my stereo receiver and be fine but id like to have something portable that works with ps4/ps5. also ordered the sivga pheonix and currently have 58x so well see how it goes
I ended up giving up with HIfiman as itâs not just their products but their customer service is just straight up awful. When I messaged them about my issues for the third time they tried to essentially accuse me of breaking the headphones and I had to go down a bit of a rabbit hole just to get the last Sundara sent in. It doesnât help that the ear pads of the sundara are bad for my ear size and are extremely uncomfortable for me, it wouldnât be so bad if the velour material used wasnât so scratchy. The build quality isnât particularly anything special. The only special thing about hifiman is they make an amazing sound for a headphone as 400i is a classic and Sundara is just phenomenal if you can actually get a good working copy. However, after they wanted to get snippy with me and make some sort of false accusation I told them where to stick it got my money back and swore off their company entirely the last straw was the break of my ananda which was for a while my favorite bright headphone.
It just happens to anybody from time to time⊠regardless of the company you can have these slip ups⊠It doesnât really bother me as I have bought through beyer on numerous occasions between gifts, accessories, or just my own collection and out of buying practically their entire line up(potentially 2 times if I think about it) I only ran into 2 problems of which they asked to fix the 1770âs I denied and just asked for a refund as I wasnât a big fan of the headphone honestly(ended up with the 177x go at the time) and now I have the tygrs which are defective which I like the tygrs but I mean, there is better options. If they give me any hardship I will switch them out for a different gift item⊠as this tygr was meant to be an early christmas gift. I would just rather not spend a lot more money for a gift item lol
I wouldnât particularly call an open back portable. They leak sound. I would sooner tell you look at dt 770 or Lagoon ANC if you wanted portability.
You may like these. I havenât tried them and probably wonât as the pads donât fit my ear size and may be the biggest complaint for them.
Itâs a good headphone for just general purpose use. I wouldnât say tygr is going to best it in terms of mid centric vocals or clarity but it is a nice addition.
well as long as you have a amp/dac for the headphone you should be alright with anything you decide to go with. I do think the Tygrs are a fantastic well rounded choice though.
i prefer open to closed honestly. if im going to be somewhere with people around me i have unique melody mest iems to take care of me there. but if im gaming and going to be talking, iems tend to start to slip out of my ear so headphones with the wireless modmic are my go to. plus the added benefit of being able to hear myself so i know im not yelling in my mic and awareness of my surroundings
What are better options at that price point?
Depends on how you look at it as there are side grades. The area that tygrs excel in is the fact they have bass and yet it doesnât get in the way of competitive as much as one would think alongside a large soundstage and extremely accurate imaging⊠Makes them great at competitives and just well rounded use. However, it really boils down to if you like the signature not everyone likes a more recessed mids headphone let alone a headphone that has a slight dark sound to it alongside that warmth. Some people will say they prefer a dt 880 over the tygr as they find it a bit more natural, much more detailed, among other reasons they just prefer the signature just as an example. In terms of âbetterâ in its sound signature for a gamer? None to my knowledge until you raise the price by a pretty drastic amount which is why I made the remark âI would rather not spend a lot more on a giftâ of sorts.

I could try and do a little pad swapping but in all honesty Iâve always enjoyed the velour pads with Beyers (own the DT 770 also) anyway.

eh, slightly. The alterations were nice as the DT 990 was more recessed sounding for me personally.
I had compared the soundstage to my k7xx and these actually sounded wider which was surprising and the bass is quite wonderful.
oh you bought his modded pair? Lol well alright then that works. These are probably one of the best âwarmâ signatured headphones with the particular sound characteristics at $200 so worth it in my opinion.

it works⊠decently. It does however, make them sound a bit dark and a little more on the boomy side of things. Preference based in that regard.
I have zero sibilance or any harshness from this headphone. What do you have it connected to? if you have a setup that can make these brighter(to a certain degree) thats a huge no go these can turn sibilant extremely fast(it is just a DT 990 revision after all). At the same time, definitely be sure its not a bad recording as I have had a few that caused this.
Definitely give it some time. At the least 2 - 3 weeks to really get used to it. It takes time to burn in(beyers do change with time so keep that in mind) as well as some mental burn in
Yup, very possible it was a bad recording. Heard it on In Flames - Man Made God and havenât had any issues with it since.
