yeaā¦ that would of been rather irritating. Man you donāt seem to have luck at times. I know you had a real problem with the Sundaraā¦ but then againā¦ itās Hifiman, hit or miss right?
Im looking for a good set to use with my ps4. sure i could put the 880 into my stereo receiver and be fine but id like to have something portable that works with ps4/ps5. also ordered the sivga pheonix and currently have 58x so well see how it goes
I ended up giving up with HIfiman as itās not just their products but their customer service is just straight up awful. When I messaged them about my issues for the third time they tried to essentially accuse me of breaking the headphones and I had to go down a bit of a rabbit hole just to get the last Sundara sent in. It doesnāt help that the ear pads of the sundara are bad for my ear size and are extremely uncomfortable for me, it wouldnāt be so bad if the velour material used wasnāt so scratchy. The build quality isnāt particularly anything special. The only special thing about hifiman is they make an amazing sound for a headphone as 400i is a classic and Sundara is just phenomenal if you can actually get a good working copy. However, after they wanted to get snippy with me and make some sort of false accusation I told them where to stick it got my money back and swore off their company entirely the last straw was the break of my ananda which was for a while my favorite bright headphone.
It just happens to anybody from time to timeā¦ regardless of the company you can have these slip upsā¦ It doesnāt really bother me as I have bought through beyer on numerous occasions between gifts, accessories, or just my own collection and out of buying practically their entire line up(potentially 2 times if I think about it) I only ran into 2 problems of which they asked to fix the 1770ās I denied and just asked for a refund as I wasnāt a big fan of the headphone honestly(ended up with the 177x go at the time) and now I have the tygrs which are defective which I like the tygrs but I mean, there is better options. If they give me any hardship I will switch them out for a different gift itemā¦ as this tygr was meant to be an early christmas gift. I would just rather not spend a lot more money for a gift item lol
I wouldnāt particularly call an open back portable. They leak sound. I would sooner tell you look at dt 770 or Lagoon ANC if you wanted portability.
You may like these. I havenāt tried them and probably wonāt as the pads donāt fit my ear size and may be the biggest complaint for them.
Itās a good headphone for just general purpose use. I wouldnāt say tygr is going to best it in terms of mid centric vocals or clarity but it is a nice addition.
well as long as you have a amp/dac for the headphone you should be alright with anything you decide to go with. I do think the Tygrs are a fantastic well rounded choice though.
i prefer open to closed honestly. if im going to be somewhere with people around me i have unique melody mest iems to take care of me there. but if im gaming and going to be talking, iems tend to start to slip out of my ear so headphones with the wireless modmic are my go to. plus the added benefit of being able to hear myself so i know im not yelling in my mic and awareness of my surroundings
What are better options at that price point?
Depends on how you look at it as there are side grades. The area that tygrs excel in is the fact they have bass and yet it doesnāt get in the way of competitive as much as one would think alongside a large soundstage and extremely accurate imagingā¦ Makes them great at competitives and just well rounded use. However, it really boils down to if you like the signature not everyone likes a more recessed mids headphone let alone a headphone that has a slight dark sound to it alongside that warmth. Some people will say they prefer a dt 880 over the tygr as they find it a bit more natural, much more detailed, among other reasons they just prefer the signature just as an example. In terms of ābetterā in its sound signature for a gamer? None to my knowledge until you raise the price by a pretty drastic amount which is why I made the remark āI would rather not spend a lot more on a giftā of sorts.
Welp, @Falenkor, I ended up getting these. Couldnāt pass up seeing them for sale over in the buy/sell thread.
Been listening for the past few hoursā¦ really enjoying this headphone. Not a full review but early impressions:
- Wide soundstage
- Tight, solid bass but not bloated or muddy
- It almost feels like the perfect compliment to the 177X GO (albeit open back) where I really hear the mids in the 177X, but these mids are recessed (not a bad thing)
- The only thing I wouldnāt have liked about these is the non-detachable cable but @tglodjo fixed that with the pair I have now lol, so really no complaints currently on music
- Need to do a little gaming with them
I could try and do a little pad swapping but in all honesty Iāve always enjoyed the velour pads with Beyers (own the DT 770 also) anyway.
Edit:
- Cymbal crashes are flirting with being a little sibilantā¦ Iām sensitive to that anyway and typically listen to dark headphones as a preference so I might just need a little more time for my ears/brain to tune in to the FR.
- Really good bass and sub-bass extension
eh, slightly. The alterations were nice as the DT 990 was more recessed sounding for me personally.
I had compared the soundstage to my k7xx and these actually sounded wider which was surprising and the bass is quite wonderful.
oh you bought his modded pair? Lol well alright then that works. These are probably one of the best āwarmā signatured headphones with the particular sound characteristics at $200 so worth it in my opinion.
That will be interesting to hear about.
it worksā¦ decently. It does however, make them sound a bit dark and a little more on the boomy side of things. Preference based in that regard.
I have zero sibilance or any harshness from this headphone. What do you have it connected to? if you have a setup that can make these brighter(to a certain degree) thats a huge no go these can turn sibilant extremely fast(it is just a DT 990 revision after all). At the same time, definitely be sure its not a bad recording as I have had a few that caused this.
Definitely give it some time. At the least 2 - 3 weeks to really get used to it. It takes time to burn in(beyers do change with time so keep that in mind) as well as some mental burn in
Yup, very possible it was a bad recording. Heard it on In Flames - Man Made God and havenāt had any issues with it since.
Iām running Amazon HD ā Grace SDAC ā JDS Labs Atom / CTH / Dark Voice ā TYGR. Playing around with the ampsā¦ this sounds really nice on the CTH.
ah okay then, yeah maybe it was just a bad recording.
Well, I normally donāt have issues with setups with this and some brighter setups sound alright for me like the AUNE stack and Schiit stack. I have had the THX cause some strange sibilance though. In most cases I like the slight raise in treble though as it balances it out a little more for me.
So Iāve had these for about a week now and have been really enjoying them. Possibly my favorite headphone around $200 Iām very much satisfied with these. Itās FR is something Iām familiar with (literally have 2 other headphones with a similar FR).
Bass: very good impact, well extended, tastefully boosted. Melds a bit with the mids which adds a bit of extra warmth to male vocals and electric guitars. A tiny bit boomy but it doesnāt really bug me. Compared to my modded 9500 and 880 black se, the bass response is a bit tighter
Mids: I find them to be perfect where theyāre at. Iām not a fan of forward mids like what you would hear with Sennheiser headphones. Iām pretty sensitive to upper midrange frequencies so any headphone that boost that range in relative to the harman target curve will sound pretty shouty to me. I find the Tygrs mids to be neutral across the board which means some other people may find them a bit recessed. Theyāre pretty detailed, have good timbre and have a natural tonality.
Treble: Quite detailed, pretty airy, smooth but a little more forward compared to my 880. They can get sibilant with poorly recorded tracks (which is most of the songs on my playlist) while my 880 arenāt as bad but itās still tolerable. Good timbre here as well.
Soundstage: pretty good depth, slightly wider than the 880.
Imaging: like always with beyerdynamic headphones it is laser pinpoint.
Gaming: When I played Warzone Solos with these on for first time, got a dub on my first game lol. Not really adding anything here just wanted to share.
Conclusion: Iām definitely keeping these. I really like itās FR. Theyāre just super enjoyable to listen to. They work with just about any sort of media. This is that type of headphone that almost everyone will like. Too bad they go out of stock often.
Holy shit, I had forgot you finally got these lol.
Boomy? hell I get more bass out of the T1 3rd gen lol even the SHP9600 was a bit bassier in my opinion. Seems just right to me.
Perhaps itās just me or I really donāt have a lot of poor recordings that I listen tooā¦ I have very rarily got this issue. It might be that peak in the frequency response that goes above neutral causing that. Least that would be my guess.
I donāt mean to rant but surely I would like to think that Beyerdynamic can see this is a large issue. It constantly goes out of stock and is almost impossible to get outside of itās bundle which is garbage. Itās such a good headphone and itās walled off from the public
I wonder if this comes from Beyerdynamic as a whole, or specifically their NA division. I have called and emailed the NA office with no responses. I actually came to this thread hoping someone might have heard anything about a re-stock.
What I would not give to live in Europe right now and have access to in-stock Tygr 300R at a price equivalent to $165usd.
It was in stock for a good while there, just keep an eye on it. It pops in and out of stock consistently.
could always just post some wanted ads up on the buy/sell thread here, head-fi, reddit and others see if someone is willing. When it goes on sale here its usually like $175
Yeah I hesitated too much the last time.
Iām thinking about buying the tygr 300 r, but I have one small problem. Since the tygrs are only 32 ohms I donāt know if I should buy an amplifier. I am in the market for a good pair of headphones that I can use with a standalone microphone. Everything that I have seen has been pretty unclear about whether the sound quality would improve or stay the same. would it be worth it to buy an amp, and if so which one should I get (no more than $150).
Iāve driven them off of my phone and they sound excellent. TBH i donāt here much of a difference between my phone and my asgard 3. i did notice a tiny bit of distortion in the mids when plugged into my phone but thats about it.
Depends on the motherboard, these really donāt take much driving power at all and most motherboards that are up to date will run them just fine. It runs on consoles well too even my phone granted my phone sounds a little quieter than I would like, but it has a rather weak audio chip in it.
Pretty sure I have said this during my review, but the audio barily changes at all when using an amp. These are not picky headphones whatsoever. I see that @JJPablo here is saying the same which I completely agree. I would just say avoid using a more warm amp as it can lead to some slight distortions in some songs. The headphone just canāt seem to take any increase in bass increments outside of slight adjustments(or a pad swap that but makes the bass super muddy and boomy).
Depends on if you plan to buy another headphone at some point. If you are, go ahead and pick up an amp, however if you donāt have a dac then consider a Combo unit at that price point. Ifi zen Dac is a warm amp but it doesnāt horribly interfere with the tygrs(just for the love of everything donāt hit the bass boost buttonā¦ sounds like you put your ear next to a running garbage truck crushing things from how much distortion you get) or something like a Soundblaster G6 or X3. G6 over there has a better dac so if you want a better amp later(consider g6 isnāt all too powerful) you can just plug a dedicated amp into the g6 and keep that as your dac and be good to go. It also is compatible with consoles(new gens may need an adapter).
If your going to shop for an amp/dac look at Head-fi, Amazon, Ebay, Buy/Sell and Looking for Thread here on the site, https://www.reddit.com/r/AVexchange/ here on reddit, USA Audio Mart, and lastly https://www.hifishark.com/ can scour multiple sites for a deal by typing in the item name in the search bar. 3rd party you will save a ton of money. just always use Paypal with an invoice so your protected financially and make sure they have photos showing the condition of the item and a little card showing the date and their username which proves ownership. Gives you security during sales
weird, my phone made it sounds a touch brighter, like I had some ever so slight sibilance on some vocals while listening to some youtube videos. May have been a bad recording but it was quite a few videos. Nothing really bothering for me personally, just noticeable.
Wow I didnāt think people would reply this fast, thanks for the suggestions!
