Dig around, save money. You can find them from $200 - $300. Anybody selling over $300 is just trying to upsellā¦ I see them sold all the time right at $250
Thank you guys soo much for your help, also will I need an amp or a dac for the nighthawks?
Yea the Erupts, heh, Im reading about them. Ill change the link to the forum.
I dont use the microphone all that much, Im not one of those players that use Discord for hours on end. Thats not the type of competitive play Im into. I know a a bit about microphones though and yes if I was using it for any length of time I would use a dedicated external mic.
I think personally the Nighthawks are worth there asking price when they first came out, I really love my pair but I got my pair just a week ago brand new discounted by 40%. My pair came straight from the factory though brand new which is going to become increasingly harder to find as they are discontinued.
Most likely yes, you will need an amp. I never recommend on board less you absolutely need to in order to save money but you lose a ton of sound quality and run the risk of the headphones not being able to get loud enough. $200 budget should work fine. If running dark headphones than magni and modi should work just fine can also run liquid spark + e30 to make it sound a little bassier and darker if you really want to emphasize the signature furtherā¦ Amps in the $100 range are Magni 3+(some colorations and warm tones), Topping A30(itās alrightā¦ pretty neutral), JDS ATOM(slight edge but very clean), and liquid spark(warm sounding but with treble roll off). Dacs just grab something from JDS, Topping or Schiit and your alright. I am pretty much bias towards topping for most of my setups considering how amazing E30 is for $130 my only complaint with it is needing a wall wart(though most people have a usb cell phone charger wall wart so this may not even be an issue).
Edit: can also get away with combo units such as Soundblaster g6, soundblaster x3, ifi zen dac, schiit fulla(not the strongest but will work), and schiit hel but I find it hard to justify this price less you really need that mic port. Soundblasters are good for console games as you need that optical portā¦ ifi zen is a great warm combo unit with a balanced port and bass button so it goes well for bass lovers
ah that makes a bit more senseā¦ I can easily tell which kind of mic a players usingā¦ laptop mics drive me nuts when I am playing competitiveā¦ though for me nowadays I can even tell when ones using a dedicated desk mic or a headset micā¦ theres actually quite a large difference
Personally I think you would be doing a disservice to yourself if you did not get something like a Magni/Modi stack from Schiit. Just speaking from my own taste there are times when I like to kick the high gain mode of the Schiit Heresy on to give it some extra thump in certain techno/EDM/electronic music that I listen to as well as in gaming. Not all the time, just here and there but realize what your getting into. I described the sonic characteristics between the the Nighthawk and the TYGR in a few posts above. They compliment each other very nicely depending on what type of gaming your doing. Another words, get them both!
This is myn, the all black is very nice to my taste.
If you do get the Nighthawks get an aftermarket cable as the one that comes in the box is terrible. I got one from Audiophileninja on etsy, link.
Well, this amp is rather analytical and measurement based. Not particularly something I would recommend but is alright I supposeā¦ Itās just the heresy that is like thisā¦ magni 3+ actually has some subtle difference characteristics. Though to my ear they sound so close to the same itās hard to tell. I like the Heresyās look more though.
I would say Schiit or Monopriceā¦ not the biggest fan of clean neutral amps for dark headphones honestly. So magni or Liquid spark would be my vote.
Fantastic representatives of their sound signature thatās for sure. They fit different roles and of courseā¦ dark sound signatures arenāt always the best for every music genreā¦ Not a big fan of dark sounds when I want to listen to classical or orchestraā¦ just sounds real off.
Well an update, I found a brand new pair of Night Hawks new and in the box with all everything for 200.
Original nighthawks, not as good as carbons. Sound different, different cable, carbon has additional style of pads, build quality is different
they are carbon
ah well then, great price then.
im in the same boat
Here is a new listing for an open box sold as āBrand Newā Audioquest Nighthawk you can make an offer on for anyone interested. Link
$400? ridiculousā¦ would definitly talk him down on that
I have 2 people I am talking too. If one of them falls threw, I post all my NightHawk Findings
Shut me down if unwarranted, but can we keep the focus here on the TYGRs and move the other chatter to the Nighthawk official thread? š¶ Audioquest NightHawk
That is a good point.
I rarely see it mentioned, but if someone was starting from scratch Iād probably recommend a Motu M2 to pair with TYGRs and a dynamic mic for gaming.
I wouldnāt. Motu is $170 + Tax + shipping fee and audio interfaces arenāt the best for headphone sound quality compared to an amp let alone how weak they are in terms of power and headroom. You can go that route but it definitely wonāt be anything that great in my opinion. Also theres cheaper interfaces for that option
Sorry if this has been mentioned, but where are we in terms of the TYGRās imaging vs. DT880 250/600Ī©?
The tygr, much like the 990s which uses the same driver, have better imaging than the 880 as well as a larger soundstage due to semi open back vs fully open. The difference would be noticeable in competitive gamingā¦ DT 880 has the more ideal sound signature but in terms of imaging and staging itās better on the tygr. Tygrās bass isnāt very in the way though and really only downside is that itās not bright so it may be a bit tougher picking out certain sounds
