From the Beyerdynamic FAQs, we know that the driver is the same as the DT990 Pro with different âtuningâ partly due to the acoustic fleece. Does this mean that the driver itself has been tuned differently electronically (is that how it works? lol), or that itâs a DT990 Pro driver with sound changed by the acoustic fleece? Have a friend who burned the left driver attempting a detachable cable mod and wondering how to replace/fix it.
Theres a guy on ebay ripping people off here in the USA. Be wary. Buddy of mine is dealing with this now. Guy is selling the bundle but only shipping out the fox microphone with a message inside the box stating the headphone is on backorder. No communication outside of that.
Saw another site price gouging this item bundle priced at $497
Best to order from reputable sources or directly from beyer
That fleece I have been trying to see if it is acquirable outside of the headphone purchase itself due to what it does to the sound. Only the Amiron and Tygr have that to my knowledge.
pretty sure its technically the same driver with some slightly altered tuning and fleece.
this is showing my ignorance, but i guess that was the focus of my question. so the âaltered tuningâ is different from how the fleece changes the sound? in other words, buying a 990pro driver would still be different than stock when installed in a tygr cup with the fleece?
I am not absolutely sure on it either. That question would be best aimed at someone whos actually modded the headphone or beyer themselves
Just confirmed with Demevalos (who mods them regularly through his Etsy store and wrote the guide people use) that it is a 32 ohm DT 990 driver. He said he had to confirm that with Beyerdynamic recently for something he was working on.
Good to know incase I ever screw mine up then lol
Back in stock ladies and gents, pick them up when you can.
Thatâs going to disappear quick
Just put in my order
Nice, hope you like it.
Going to wait out the T1 3rd gen. If it proves to be a warm headphone I will probably sell my tygr for that
Are there any reliable measurements of tygrâs frequency response? especially compared to the harman target curve.
@Falenkor what would be your guess for how the tyrg FR compares to the harman target?
only image I can find really of someone getting a frequency graph on the headphone. It is quite accurate though to my ear despite some compensation.
The Harman Target is more in tune to that of a V signature of such and something you look for when it comes to mixing. Wouldnât recommend such a headphone like the tygrs for the harman target⊠if anything I would say the DT 990 hits closer to that mark or dt 880 when using quite a bit of equalization
Tygr is just one of those that doesnât like to get along with equalizing. You can technically equalize it but you need some power to back it up and the bass seems to distort a little if you mess with it much like the treble becomes far too sharp. It may have something to do with the fleece used since thatâs the primary cause of the sound signature. You can technically make the tygr a harman curve, but you need some preamp behind it and approperiate adjusting. You would have to adjust the mids there to be more neutral instead of recessed and bump that large portion of recession in the treble to get the response your looking for.
@raffalab hopefully that helps you out.
@JJPablo hey, so when you get the Tygr. Definitely would like to hear your thoughts on it.
Great minds think alike
So I owned a pair of Audeze Mobius, was looking at getting The TYGR with a Shiict Hel to replace them. What would be compareable at the $400 budget range, Headphone and amp. Or should I just take the pludge and get a used pair of lcd 2. Also my Mobius broke due to poor build quiltay, I have already Rma once, so no be going back to them.
Love and hate this headset⊠awful wireless but with a fairly good sound to it albeit build quality issues are just unacceptable considering the brand name.
Unless you really need that mic port I would recommend a dedicated unit setup instead of a combo unit for that price point. Depending on the headphone of choice as amps and dacs change the sound.
Very expensive and still needs an amp your talking of spending well over $700. Never jump to the top. Itâs a journey not a race. LCD - 2 is a dark headphone. I would recommend you try mdr 7506 or nighthawk carbon before plunging into an audeze of that price bracket. Mobius are a pretty terrible representation of the audezeâs house sound honestly⊠Nighthawks give a great example if you can find one.
itâs a gaming headset, they cut corners⊠so this will be rather common to a large degree unfortunately. Despite them making the new PENROSE I have no high expectations for it at all⊠itâs just a reskinned mobius without the 3d and better wireless so now itâs low latency
If you need a mic input get the Schiit Hel otherwise if you dont get the Schiit stack, magni/modi (I have the Heresy version). I use desktop grade laptops so I have no need or want to have a mic attached to my gaming headphone as all gaming laptops have a built in microphone. For the price the performance your getting with the TYGR specifically for gaming is amazing. I would say its definitely on the competitive side as far as headphones go. Your not going to get that bass if that is what your after but the sound stage and imaging clarity are unreal.
The TYGR from my personal experience sounds amazing in game but for music its a pass. Their are much better options and the TYGR to me falls flat on its face for music. They seem to go out of stock frequently and often their are people looking to buy when their not in stock so seeing as its in stock right now I wouldnât hesitate if your buying them for gaming. I do think its necessary to get an amp that has a high gain switch so you turn the sound up on them.
The TYGR is a special headphone. There is not that many great gaming audiophile headphones to begin with, this feels that void nicely. For something different though I got a Audioquest Nighthawk Carbon and have been enjoying that in the large scale battles in BF5 that I play. It has that deep deep bass with impact, it literally shakes your ears when there are cannons from tanks being shot off or explosions of vehicles. The Carbons are on another level but there are trade offs. With all that bass the imaging can become less clear in some instances, they are more of a fun headphone but I perform on similar levels when playing compared with the TYGR. Were talking a high competitive level here, anything else regarding gaming and the Nighthawks blow away the TYGRs but as I said if your looking for the clinical clarity that is true to the game your playing you are not going to be disapointed with the TYGRs. Im also getting the Fostex Ebony TR-X00 so I will be able to compare those to the rest of my collection.
You just have to decide on what it is your looking for regarding gaming. Do you want that rumbling bass impact that envelopes you or that clinical clarity with a wide sound stage.
Here are some headphones you can research if you feel so inclined that might lead you down to something you want for gaming.
- Monolith 1060
- AKG Pro Audio K712
- Bereydynamic MX300
- Audioquest Carbon Nigthhawk
- Audio-Technica 700s
- Fostex TR-X00
-
Fidelio X2HR
There are many many more if you want I can link some more in message.
Here is a cool graph I seen yesterday when I was looking around.
eh, depends on his preference in sound. Modi is decent but has complaints of causing glare on headphones. Would normally say a Topping D10 over that but again, preferencesâŠ
I have a personal bias against using those mics due to clarity issues and sensitivity⊠would immediately tell somebody using that to get a microphone even if just a dedicated desk mic. To each their own on that one drives me nuts hearing those mics.
well, least till you get to around $450+ range then you start getting real serious competition. Though for $200 Tygr is quite something special. Though also depends on if the person likes warm signatures.
I would definitely disagree that they are bad for music. They are quite nice for a warm signature but itâs just not for everyone. slightly recessed mids and slightly recessed highs arenât for everyone can be deemed off sounding or boring. Same for the bass as itâs definitely not a cannon of sorts.
Doesnât need an amp less you donât have a strong motherboard even so, i always recommend amps for headphones due to the sound benefits. The out of stock dilemma is a large issue right now with beyer⊠getting products is a major pain thanks to covid.
Well, its a bassier dark headphone. Tygr are warm yet more neutral so very large difference between the two. Tygr has some dark treble to it but nighthawks are pretty much taking the tygrs signature and amplifying the bass and darkness by a very large degree. Would be like me comparing a sublte V signature than saying I picked up the DT 990 which is to an extreme degree V sharp signature.
may help show you what your dealing with for ebony over there⊠I like purple heart much more⊠bass is much more satisfying and definitely reflected in itâs bass⊠Though they are closed backs.
I wouldnât tell my worst enemy to buy this piece of junk. The price on these is horrendously bad as is the sound that comes from this headphone until you swap the pads to something in the $70 range making this headphone cost damn near $500 and yet itâs competition walks all over this thing. It looks good and feels amazing the build quality is superb but thatâs all it is⊠everything else in my opinion is just outright bad especially the terrible cable.
Rest of the listed headphones are alright but itâs hard to recommend any headphones unless one knows their preferred sound tastes⊠It sounds like he may prefer dark headphones which arenât all too common all considering. Recommending something like the mmx300 is a bit of a stretch in this regard due to that as it has brightness itâs essentially a slightly altered dt 770
How much would say a set of night hawks are worth, I found a pair for 325?
