šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

Not a bad price on either but you could order the tygrs directly from beyerdynamic and save money, more so if you wait till they go back on a sale. I mentioned this more so considering you mention your not sure if itā€™s worth the premium with the microphone.

Well, just in comparisons you have an extremely treble sharp headphone vs a relatively neutral warm headphone there. Definitely going to boil down to your preferences.

ah yeah, I wouldnā€™t recommend you the 880s in this case.

Can confirm that the 32 ohm doesnā€™t sound good and relatively muddy. I wouldnā€™t say itā€™s a hard copy of the 990s at all they are very different sound signatures. 990s are nice but I enjoyed their 600 ohm variations more due to more refinement.

Well, in comparison they are very identical outside of just their natural sound signature so I can see the toss upā€¦ In terms of your preference I think you have a good selection right now. In the $200 range I think youā€™d be hard pressed to find a great alternative in this case which may be more unfortunate news lol. The only others I can think of in this price range are the Shp9500(not as bassy but bright), Fidelio x2 hr(bassier than the tygrs can be seen as muddy not bright but very warm and smooth), HarmonicDyne Helios(not very bassy but can be equalized ot hit pretty hard and is bright), DT 770(closed back variationā€¦ hard bass and sharp highs not as recessed in the mids as a 990, lastly, one of the T50RP mods like the Dekoni Blue which is a V signature.

Really appreciate the detailed feedback. I do think the TYGRs seem like the best option and I may just try to sell the mic while Iā€™m in the return window to recoup some of the cost. The Beyer store on eBay offers free shipping and no tax in my state, so the bundle was $279 total. Unfortunately, if I order just the TYGRs from the website, I have to add $20 for sales tax and $15 for shipping, so Iā€™d definitely keep the mic for a sub $40 difference. Iā€™m definitely really appreciative of the conversations here. I have used a pair of SHP9500s for a couple of years and am just looking for something different. The Beyers were always something in the back of my mind, but it wasnā€™t until the TYGR reviews started dropping that I became more interested in testing some out. Itā€™s good to know, though, that I really canā€™t go wrong with either. Once I settle on the pair Iā€™m keeping, I plan to do the detachable cable mod so I can easily add a BoomPro.

I have been honestly curious on modifiying the tygrs like this or balanced to see how they perform. I donā€™t have the skillz to do so though lol. Looking at the insides though they appear to be the same way as the other beyers for modifications so I assume it shouldnā€™t be to different or complicated in comparison.

Hey @Antpage2 did you ever get your tygrs? Was interested in hearing your thoughts on them man.

Nope. Ordered them on June 8th. already gonna be a month. i dont think theyve even shipped

Holy hell thatā€™s some serious backorder. I would definitely message them asking about that.

Iā€™m right there with you. I ordered mine on June 24th and all i got was an email saying that it is backordered 3+ weeks. Probably going to be longer.

Yeah i think im gonna have to do that. on the positive side, just got my LCD 1 today! =D Audeze seems to really have their stuff together. awesome company

It took me 5 weeks to get mine unfortunately. @Antpage2 hopefully you get notification of the shipping soon I would definitely message them and get on them about that

I realize that the headphones are pretty new but I donā€™t see that anyone has attempted to balance mod or cable mod the tygrs. Have you come across anyone trying to mod them? Iā€™m looking to see if I can mod them.

The inside resembles that of the inside of the other dt series like the 770/880/990 so you should be able to without issues theoretically though I have not seen anyone attempt it just yet.

Ok, thanks for the info. Once I get them, Ill look into a teardown. Also, Ill take you up on your advice and contact Beyer about shipping status.

Just a quick update on my situation. I decided to keep the TYGRs and return the 990 Edition. However, after I made that decision, I found a pair of DT 880 Chromes w/ the detachable cable mod and Vokyl Erupts on the AVExchange subreddit. Bundled both of them for slightly more than the Team TYGR bundle. Looking forward to both sets of cans, but I like the fact that I should be able to recoup plenty of cost should I default to one over the other. Iā€™ll be rocking my TYGRs until this order arrives though. Iā€™ll be shipping them back to the Beyer eBay store, so if youā€™re interested in a discounted bundle with the FOX mic, keep an eye out for it.

Not sure how I feel on the vokyls I have heard so many bad things on their sound and a lot of complaints over the pads really screwing things up but again thatā€™s all subjective. My biggest concern is that vokyls have no return policy and are still in prototype stages.

Thatā€™s the black edition right? Like it has black pads? If I remember right thatā€™s just the limited edition black but with a chrome plating on it meaning it will have a different tuning compared to the original dt 880 edition.

Not sure but if you are a fan of bass you probably will like the tygr more than the 880. Though as for the erupt over there no ideaā€¦ I heard they are pretty bassy with a very large soundstage though so I suppose it may replace them. Would appreciate it if you could drop your thoughts and opinion on it though!

Iā€™ll definitely update with my thoughts once I get the new cans in. I have been worried about the Erupts too, but after hours of reading forums and reviews, consensus seems to be that theyā€™re pretty great minus the pads and cables. The seller is including custom Hart cables, so thatā€™s solved, and I plan to add the fenestrated sheepskin pads. Nearly everything I read says that single switch completely change the experience.

Iā€™m sure Iā€™d like the TYGRs more than the 880s as an overall set. But honestly, Iā€™m stoked to try out the Erupts and get the 880s. And it gives me an option to switch to the flatter pair for competitive play when Iā€™d like. And since I got them both at a pretty great price, I have some good wiggle room if I regret the purchase or just donā€™t like one of the pairs.

Getting close to a month with these headphones now. Gotta say, I absolutely love this headphone still. Again, the closest headphone I can compare these too are the Fidelio x2 HR and the most recent test I did when I picked up the 250 ohm ā€œSpecial Black Editionā€ DT 880. While the 3 sound different they are still pretty similar. This headphone has no business being at $200 considering how good it sounds

Edit: So, maybe its just me but I went back and listened to zeosā€™s sound demo on this over here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCHppgATwaA and itā€™s close but I donā€™t think it completely captured all the actual detail in that sound. Perhaps just youtube or something on my end.

Anyone know a guy who offers a modding service for the balanced cables / 3.5mm detachable cables? Would like to see if they could mod the tygr

Welcome to sound demos virtually useless unless you have the exact same signal chain and not streaming it off of YouTube. And given z has tuned his recording setup it exactly to what he hears
