🔶 Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

Yeah, tygrs arent on there suppose I can send him a message though.

I messaged him last week about modding the TYGRs. Said he doesn’t expect them to be any different than the other Beyers listed.

Oh? I didn’t think they would be. The inside resembles that of the DT 990. I am curious on the mod but a little worried at the same time. I don’t want to balance mod it only to find out that balancing it out makes it sound like shit lmfao. Really I guess boils down to okay do I want balanced or do I want it compatible with wireless and v-moda boom pro?

Just went and placed a second order on this headphone as I gotta pick up a gift for someone. If you guys end up picking one of these up and just not like them, to save me from going through shipping hell, I wouldn’t mind taking them off your hands otherwise back to waiting on shipping.

When did you order the second pair? Right now they are out of stock.

Placed an order for the bundle this time around. Wanted to check out the mic. Quite a few places still have the bundle… Going to assume beyer will be out of stock for some time on the tygrs…

Yea I ordered mine back on June 9th and still waiting to get them. I have been in contact with the company a few times and the most recent response (July 7th, 2020) was the following:

Unfortunately these items are still on back order. We expect these sometime in the middle of the month. We apologize for the delay.

Hmm, so maybe they will get out of back order in a week or so. That’s not too bad provided they can fill the backlog. I went ahead and cancelled my order after looking more into the Fox Mic and some sound tests… doesn’t seem like it would be better than my Blue Yeti. I will just hold off until it hits restock. I would assume people like @Antpage2 who has now been waiting for a month + will be the first ones to receive shipping confirmation within the next week then.

Yeah, I would have been much more tempted to keep my set that came in the bundle if the FOX mic was top-notch. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing better than the other USB mics available, and definitely not worth the premium added for the TEAM bundle IMO. If only Beyer produced these with a detachable cable like the Custom…ugh.

Need a higher tier variation to the Tygrs next with a detachable cable. DT 1990s are the analytical and are cabable of all three signatures of the DT series. T1 is apparently like the DT 880 is Gen 1 and Gen 2 appears to be more like the 990s but definitely not recessed mids.

Really wish the T1’s sound was more modifiable as I like the signature but it’s such a strong bassy headphone with a hell of a lot of treble to it gets tiring after a while. I prefer it often over the 1990 due to it being the more relaxed headphone.

Intoxicatedly found you jack asses singing these praise and ordered…first time got the "out of stock " (I’m EU) reloaded hour / two more bottles of Austuriano Sidra - must’ve been exact time they hit load cause a open box special poped up for 130 -> 140+ with shipping…looking forward to compare with the Helios which I should shamelessly pitch here are for sale …for cheap.

I returned the bundle a couple days ago on Amazon so I can order the headphones separately. Hoping I did not make a mistake.

All the sound tests I viewed with the fox mic show it’s not a bad mic, it’s even a bit of an interface for the headphone itself which is odd, but that there are better microphones at the same price tag. Though you can get the bundle a lot sooner than the headphone itself right now. Headphone right now is literally in shipping hell and beyer can’t keep up with the orders. it’s an amazing headphone for sure and I hope beyer can spin this around to make them more available, and yes most definitely seperate the headphone and sell it on it’s own later cause the bundle to me isn’t worth while.

That’s like… what $150 usd? That’s crazy less shipping prices are stupid.

Helios will appear to have a “bigger” sound potentially due to it’s design and more relaxed presentation as tygr is definitely the more intimate headphone. Both are good but in terms of details Helios may win in an ever so slight edge though I find tygrs much more enjoyable to listen to. Looking forward to hearing your impressions

So, i have the Tygr for 10 days now and here are my thoughts about it. I do also own the Fidelio X2, the B&O H6 2nd and the Meze 99 Classic. I will compare the Tygr with the X2, because they are both open back. I used both headphones with the Ifi Zen Dac (unbalanced) and the Geshelli Archel 2.5 Pro Amp (balanced).

Keep in mind that i prefer a v-shape or warm sound signature with big bass over neutral headphones.

The pros of the fidelio X2 are:

  • more bass quantity

  • forward mids, better detail in mids

  • bigger soundstage

  • better dynamics, it hits harder

  • built quality and detachble cable

  • good comfort, but pads aren´t as comfy as the tygr pads

The cons of the X2 are:

  • The bass is a little bit lose/boomy
  • The imaging is only average. While playing battlefield i get information about an explosion in the 19-22 o´clock-area. Playing the same sequence with the tygr, the information is much clearer (explosion at 19 o´clock)
  • The treble is a little bit uneven and rolled off in the upper treble
  • The X2 doesn´t benefit so much from the Geshelli amp. The bass gets a little bit tighter and the soundstage is a little bit more refined due to a little bit more depth
  • The headband is really big and the user looks goofy wearing the x2´s

The pros of the tygr are:

  • tighter bass and subbass

  • more detail in the bass and especially in the treble area

  • big soundstage for an open back, but smaller than X2´s soundstage

++ imaging is just spectacular for an open back. The only other headphone that can compete with the tygr is the beyerdynamic custom studio. So i guess imaging is a beyerdynamic core discipline.

++ The tygr benefits much more from the geshelli amp, especially in games.

  • comfort is very good due to light weight, comfy pads and good headband, better comfort than x2´s

  • classic headphone look due to lower profile/smaller headband

The cons of the tygr are:

  • Slightly recessed mids and mid-details
  • I can push the driver to their limits in bass heavy songs, loud volumes and enhanced truebass on the zen dac. The X2 drivers doesn´t crack at the same volume.
  • The non-detachable cable is a no-go. Beyerdynamic offers so many headphones with detachble cables, so i don´t really get it why the tygr are non-detachble. The only reason could be that they are trying to sell more tygr/fox-combos and they dont´t want the people to use swichable microphones like the one from v-moda boompro.

In general the sound signatures are pretty close. I would say that the tygr is „a relaxed X2“ due to the slightly recessed mids. The imaging is outstanding on the Tygr. It has much more information in the depht/height area. So that i would describe the imaging and soundstage difference between the Tygr and the X2 as: IWhile waering the Tygr i have the feel that i´m standing in a big room or church hall. The sound comes from all directions. With the X2 i feel like standing outside in front of a big stage. The sound comes more from the front (espacially the singers) and the sides. The X2 has less information about depth and height 8in terms of soundstaging). i hope this description make sense.
I still prefer the X2 as an allrounder headphone. I enjoy the X2 a little bit more for music and movies due to the bigger ss, more bass quantity, better punch and the forward mids. The Tygr wins for gaming due to the spectacular imaging and more treble detail. I am using the tygr on the geshelli amp, because the differences between balanced/unbalanced are definitly noticable and bigger than with the X2´s. I prefer the use of the X2 unbalanced on the Zen Dac, because it has a little more rumble in the bass.

I don´t feel the need for owning both, because the sound signature and quality is pretty on the same level. Also the non detachable cable is a big con for the tygrs. On the other side they are much better for gaming (in balanced use) than the X2´s. So maybe i will keep them for gaming and will use the X2´s for music and movies. My personal favourite list for warm or v-shaped headphones under 500 $ so far:

V-shaped or warm headphones
open (closed)
Tier 1 Fidelio X2, Akg K 712 pro (B&O H6 2nd gen)
Tier 2 Tygr, Fidelio L2, Akg K702, HD650 (Meze 99 Classic, Focal Spirit Pro/Classic, B&O H6 1st gen)
Tier 3 DT 990 pro, Superlux HD 481 Evo, T50rp III (stock) (Sony MDR-1A, Dt 250 (80 Ohm))
Doesn´t make it in the tier list and i sold them: (Momentum 1&2, Custom Studio, Meze 99 Neo, DT 770 pro (250 Ohm), M50x, T51p, V-Moda XS)

Next on my list are the fidelio X3 and the Modhouse Argons. I really hope that the X3 will have the same bass quantity and mids area as the X2. They just need to make the bass tighter, the imaging better and get the treble more even with a little bit more information in the upper treble.

Sorry for my poor english, it isn´t my native language.

Greetings

Andy

looks like we got very close to the same thoughts on it. I dropped my X2 due to the better surrounding staging from the tygrs as well as a more controlled not so boomy/muddy bass. Mids do have some very slight recession on the tygrs but I don’t really think thats a bother personally though I can’t technically call the tygrs a true V signature due to that pretty harsh treble dip that goes under neutral, I mean it does peak a little bit offering just a touch of brightness but not enough to call it a V or rather a brighter headphone. Hell I would call fidelio x2hr brighter than the tygr if anything. I completely agree though on the missed opportunity for the detached cable though, granted you can mod it yourself, would have been a much better selling point that plus the fact you can only get the tygr seperately directly from beyer which is rather annoying.

X3 fidelios may be out next month I would think? I just ordered the SHP9600 over on aliexpress and got word that fidelio x3 released on china about a week and a half ago.

I would say the the tygr are brighter. On the geshelli amp and really loud volume some guitars can be fatuiging. I don’t have the problem with the X2 on the geshelli. But the imaging and the surround sound on games like Resident Evil 2 Remake, Alien Isolation, Forza Horizon 4, Battlefield 3 and Company of heroes 2 ia really glorious. So i guess i’ll wait for your impressions of the SHP9600. Meanwhile i’ll saving some money for the X3. Gush, the search for the perfect headphone does never ends…

So these just arrived… ordered back in June

I hope it becomes available on their website again or gets sold standalone on Amazon. I really want to try these but I don’t wanna buy a whole bundle with a mic I don’t need just for a pair of headphones.

'Grats. I returned my TEAM Bundle a few weeks ago because I didn’t want/need the mic. But I’m glad I did because I recently bought a gently used pair from someone on AVExchange subreddit. Should be in early next week. I plan to do the detachable cable mod too. Biggest decision for me will be whether or not I want to keep my modded 880 too or sell it and just keep the TYGRs.

Just two questions…does Voltron break down into individual lions? Is the model Lego?
