đŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

Nighthawk Carbon is a special headphone. I don’t have a lot of issues with it and don’t see it having a lot of drawbacks outside of it’s sound signature being a potential hit or miss for someone considering Dark headphones, much like bright, is not for everyone. It can appear veiled or muffled to some out the gate.

X2HR over there has bass issues and the build quality is decent but not the best. The bass bleeds into the mids and is muddy. The soundstage is large as it is wide with good enough imaging. I found a large soundstage potentially just as large from the nighthawks and the imaging is better. The bass is tighter and has more detail more impact and quite a bit of depth on it the sub bass extension is extremely satsifying. The mids are detailed and warm too there doesn’t seem to be any drawbacks in my opinion on the vocals. The highs are the hit or miss
it’s Dark to the point of on the level of certain audeze and an acquired taste
That isn’t to say it’s bad it’s what makes this headphone special in my opinion and worth a try.

If anything considering you can get an x2hr at $90 while the nighthawks are $200 - $300 it’s a hard comparison. If budget isn’t a concern however, I will definitely say the nighthawks hands down are the better headphone even for gaming and can actually potentially go toe to toe with the Tygr 300R. I think @tglodjo who I helped get a nighthawk may be able to help with some further comparisons

Would you that the Nighthawk is a upgrade or sidegrade compared with the X2? Also which one would you choose between 9600 and nighthawks as a) allrounder headphone and b) fun and bassy headphone (single player gaming + hiphop and electronic music)?

Most definite upgrade in terms of sound quality however, different sound signature as while the nighthawks are a warm headphone they are dark while the x2 has treble slightly above the neutral. Bit of an acquired taste imo.

9600 for budget nighthawk if you can find one as the low end is superb however, I do feel the 9600 would be potentially better for electronic due to the better neutrality / brightness. I think both definitely won’t disappoint in this regard but I really don’t think 9600 can stand up to the nighthawk though granted this is a hard comparison as they are different brackets of sound and different sound signatures.

Ok, cool. Thank you

Would you recommend the dt 880 or 990 for comp gaming?

For comp gaming i would rank the beyerdynamics in this order 880>custom studio>tygr>990

880 and custum studio are pretty flat/neutral with good imaging. Tygr and 990 are bassier then the first two mentioned. Tygr has way better imaging than 990. The 990 are pretty elevated in the highs and are sibilant. This is good for hearing footsteps and details, but is really fatigueing after a short period of time. I prefer the tygrs because the treble is fixed, but not rolled of and the imaging is really spectacular

Either actually but in the end it boils down to the use case and the person in general. DT 880 aren’t very bassy and due to this can be boring at the same time bright headphones aren’t for everyone. Your biggest concerns are your soundstage and imaging.

880 is nice as a daily driver for regular use as it’s fairly neutral and has brightness but the bass can be a bit hollow sounding not real impactful or full sounding though it’s great in competitive and good for other use cases scenarios.

DT 990 is a major hit or miss it can be very sibilant but not to everyone as the brightness is extremely sharp at the same time it has a lot more bass.

Both however, are going to require a seperate purchase of an amp and dac unit

Considering someones first bright beyer I would point to a DT 880 before I told someone to grab the 990 as it’s the sharpest of the 3. However, if one is intolerant to treble I see nothing wrong with going with the Tygr 300R

Just bought an used nighthawk carbon for 160 euros. I am excited to get them and i hope that they wouldn’t disappoint me with their specual and very warm sound signature.

Most of the people that I see get that headphone are quite impressed and it works very well. Granted it’s a hit or miss in gaming the sound is still quite superb and the bass extremely satisfying. The only thing i can think would cause someone to not like it is perhaps comfort(and the lack thereof actual replacement parts since the item is discontinued lol) and the sound signature being quite Dark which isn’t for everybody, as someone who is a huge fan of brighter headphones it took me weeks to get used to the signature and at first it sounded very veiled / muffled to me

considering the price point you got it for that’s probably the cheapest I have seen it sold for
Hope you get it in great condition as thats a fantastic deal imo

Rather sad that I have had to buy this headphone 3 times now. Should be in Monday. The reason I have had to buy it is when I let a buddy or relative try it they want it
so I end up recouping the money I spent on it so they can have it, as I have stuff like my aeons as backup anyway, and place an order that takes an eternity to get to me cause out of stock and hard to find

I still recommend this highly for the casual gamer who also plays in competitive games
Quite something spectacular at it’s price, that’s if you can get your hands on one.

Hopefully, beyer will stop having out of stock issues soon for this one

The best compliment i can give the TYGRs is the only way I think I’ll part with my pair is if they made an upgraded higher end version based off of Tesla drivers. They’re so comfortable for long session usage.

Speaking of this, I just read the review(and posted it in the respective forum here) that the new flagship from Beyerdynamic, the T1 3rd generation, is actually a Warm Headphone(the same signature that the Tygr has) which is strange considering that’s outside the typical house sound from beyer. This could very well be a direct Flagship variation to the Tygr. Needless to say I am extremely curious, but it’s very expensive.

from the pictures it also looks like the t1 3rd gen has similar padding to the tygr on the driver

Interesting that the t1 3rd gen and the t5p 3rd gen both have the tygr logo on the side

You mean the big y on the sides there? That’s beyer’s logo not so much having anything to do with specifically tygr

Yea that’s the new Beyerdynamic logo

Ithink it’s for a more consumer line and they are trying tto incorporate the Y into product names like the Tyger and the Byrd

Well, Lagoon and Amiron Home Wireless have that logo on them as well though.

The logo is all over their website as well

Come to think of it
maybe rice is onto something here though. All those products that have that logo. Byrd, Tygr, Lagoon, and amiron wireless share a common signature
They are all warm headphones and now the T1 3rd generation has that logo on it and is said to be another warm headphone not bright. According to another reviewer the T5p while also having that Logo is no longer bright it’s warm

Infact, when I sat with lagoon is was shocking similar to the Tygr just that lagoon doesn’t have the recessed mids and is designed for portable use. Amiron Wireless is warm and similar to the T1 just with all that brightness pulled out of it
