šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

Please do let me know about your view on the 560s. I am considering getting them and I have tried the TYGRs myself too before.

may help if you tagged me there bud, lol.

anyway, this may help 58x in brown 560s in red

some extra warmth in the lows / low mids, less treble so it has that more balanced sounding signature overall, cheaper, comfortable. Granted, vs the Tygr? No competition in some cases such as imaging, bass, and soundstage. the 560s just have some noticeable added brightness to them, which is okay but if I wanted a brighter soundā€¦ well I have plenty of beyers that do that better imo

if the 560s is close to anythingā€¦ it would probably be the Elex from Focalā€¦ they are remarkably similar which makes the 560s one hell of a headphoneā€¦ but it really boils down to if you want that particular kind of signature

Haha oops, Iā€™ll figure out that tagging thing. Thanks for those measurements, I see how the 58x can have a more even tonality.

Circling back to the tygr/990, looks like people are dropping their 990s for the he5xx. Same price as the 990, and apparently bigger soundstage, better imaging, and even more airyness.

Color me intrigued

havenā€™t seen anything like that to be honest and I honestly have some doubts on better imagingā€¦ not so much on air considering how sundara is. Bigger soundstage is probably just due to the added air making it appear bigger and more spacious

Have seen that being mentioned a few times and that honestly makes me even more eager to buy them. If I like the 560s I was thinking about making the Elex my end game. Heard they sound amazing if you are into that signature.

990s come in tomorrow.

Until then, the tygrs soundstage and imaging so massively destroys the pc38x that there is no competition. These are THE headphones for gaming, at least until I try the 990s.

As far as music goes, the wide stage and instrumental clarity of the tygr creates a really fantastic experience for music listening, while the pc38x is so close in comparison it almost feels flat.

That being said, vocals can sound thin on the tygr, and have much more body and richness with the 38x. Itā€™s less of a warmer signature as much as a much more rounded out one.

Iā€™m hoping the 560s will have the same great vocals of the 38xs, but with more detail and clarity. If that ends up happening they will be a great complement to whichever beyer I choose to keep

Yea this is why I said the reviewers shilled the hell out of the pc38x. Tygr stomps it. 990 are a big hit or missā€¦ if you like 990s but feel they are a touch too bright you can either pad swap them or get some felt and put it in front of that driver

Since I got my TYGRs a few months ago Iā€™ve been using them almost exclusively as my daily driver, on meetings, listening to music, playing games, whatever. Theyā€™ve been great.

I used to give those duties to the 177X GOs but the TYGR are considerably lighter and more comfortable for really long sessions (on my head while working all day).

990 600ohm came in last night. Worked till 10 so didnā€™t have much time.

That said my wife and I both had the same reaction, ā€œummm, this makes the tygr sound baadā€

The deeper bass of the Tygr and warmer signature which sounded nice at first, was horrible in comparison. The 990 had such incredible separation, a wider stage, and all that airyness you talked about.

When we put on a dynamic song we love, with strong vocals, chugging guitars, and a strong bass, the tygr sounded super congested, everything melded together, and the bass definitely felt fairly distorted compared to the 990.

The 990 was subdued in the bass, but sounded so much cleaner and more refined, with better tonality and not even a hint of distortion. When I turned on xbass on my ifi hip Dac, it basically equaled the bass extension and hit of the tygr, with absolutely none of the distortion.

Tygrs are headed back to the shop.

Now that said, the tygr is so much easier to drive. My 600ohms on the hip Dac at max volume barely hit the levels they get on my schiit hel at half volume. Itā€™s comfortable, but feels lacking.

Has anyone used a portable Dac and amp, or Dac/amp combo, powerful enough to drive the 990?

the 990 600 ohm could do well with something nice and full of power like a asgard 3. the liquid spark is the best budget pairing still but if you have another hundred to spend an asgard is a nice purchase to go along with it. and in the fure if you witsh to get a 880 600 ohm or the rare 600 ohm 770 you got a nice amp to pair with those as well.

Yes! The Asgard 3 also transformed my Sundaras. Really brought them to life, even at a lower volume. And as for the 880sā€¦I like to think I was planning ahead, just in case. LOL

If you want portable dac amp, xduoo xd-05 plus does a nice job. It also has a Bluetooth dongle you can buy separately. I use it with mine and It gets loud enough with volume knob at 12 oclock on high gain. Sounds good and you can swap opamps for fun if you want to do some tweaks. I use this set up for when I want to bring my 600 ohm dt770ā€™s out for a walk and sounds great.

I will say I am looking hard at other ifi products. That xbass button turns the 990 600ohm into possibly the epitome of musical sound. It gets that amazing airy soundstage, beautiful vocals, and incredible resolution and separation, and adds body and heft to all the sounds, especially the vocals, and obviously more power to the bass. Itā€™s amazing.

May sell my schiit hel and replace it with the zen Dac + Can.

That said Iā€™m really looking at the ifi micro idsd. 4W @16ohm, xbass boost, 3D switch, tons of functionality, and portable with 8+ hours

Audiophile wifey? Naisu!

yeah the micro idsd bl will power anything with room to spare. On turbo mode, I can take the DT 990s 600 ohm to about 1oā€™clock on the pot before the driver distorts. The bit perfect filter will taper any shrill highs. You should look into getting the new micro idsd signature. Itā€™s $50 more but it looks to be an improvement, has usb c power and comes with s-balanced output to 4.4mm pentaconn.

Hmm I see these have a bass boost. Iā€™m assuming the tech isnā€™t the same as what ifi does, but how do you like it? Tried it with 990 600s or only the 770s?

Haha Iā€™m a lucky man

Oh Iā€™m for sure looking at it. Itā€™s just the $700 price tag scaring me off

When bass boost is enabled, I get added boom to the bass. Not great at describing it but its like a boom of added bass on top of the sub bass and gives it thicker sound. Listening to a song like Khalid - Talk, with bass boost off, the 990s sound nice and clean in the bass section and when boost is on, it adds more body to it making it sound boomy and thick and doesnā€™t muddy things up too much. Iā€™ve had good and bad results from different headphones and iems. Its not bad if thatā€™s a preference for bass.

I run my dt990ā€™s with cheap velour pads so the bass response was already elevated for me with an addition to the added bass boost.

Thanks, add any lower mid to the vocals or just pure bass?

Yeh vocals also get it in the lower mids. Made Vocals sound thicker and they donā€™t get buried by the bass.

Hmm seems I gotta check it out thanks
