Here is zeoās review on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqhscTheVbk&ab_channel=ZReviews
I can add one bit to this. I have the Micro Black Label, before that I had the classic low budget Schiit stack (Modi/Magni). In comparison, I found the stack to be brighter sounding, and assume that is the difference between the two dacs. The iFi pairs so nicely with bright cans like my Beyerdynamics. And then, if I feel like something different, plug in the Fostex T60 and hit the 3D switch. I am quite the fan od iFi and if/when my unit dies I will more than likely go with another from them again.
Definitely do not recommend any bass boosts on the tygrā¦ it becomes boomy and in most cases, like 90% of units tested, bled bad
Oh for sure, I was saying that the 990 specifically was some sort of voodoo magic when paired with the ifi xbass. The tygr sounds like a garbled mess with any boost
lol yeah itās pretty wild that an <$200 open back has the potential for more bass and rumble than any headphone I have ever owned. Pad swapping with Dekoni pads really unlocks the potential of that bass response. I have only tried the Dekoni Choice Leather and Hybrids and they turn the 990s into bass cannons, especially the Choice Leather. I was really hoping Zeos wouldāve pad swapped the DT990s in that sponsored video but I know those highs can be too much for some.
its weird cause he can handle some pretty treble heavy stuff like the m570
Oh agreed, most of the beyers have strangely good results with itā¦ I like it more on the 880 or 1990 though where that bass goes from neutral to more of a V so itās quite nice. 990 is nice but for me too much is a bit of a headache, however it didnt distort or go way out of line which was surprising. I do wish the tygr was a bit more versatile with changing its sound. I have since considered the fact that perhaps a 990 with tygrs felt material may be a better choice if someone has an amp as it sounds better to me and you can freely adjust the sound. The tygr is a altered 990 confirmed by beyer, so I guess it makes sense.
Lol try the argons thenā¦ semi open but a ton of low end
I think this pushes alot of people away so they created the tygr in response to help with thatā¦ least thatās how I look at it. Then you have t1 gen 3 doing the same thing with applying the felt and bringing the ohms down making a similar signature.
The DT990s need a comeback video. The DT880s got theirsā¦
I wouldāve bought em but I waited too long. Now theyāre out of stock on the Modhouse website and itās been like that for awhile nowā¦ Looks like Iāll have to snag one used.
If memory servesā¦ t50rp is discontinued and may be getting a new version so maybe a new argon
Fostex made the best T50 mod with the T60 so hopefully the T70 or T65 follows suit. Iād prefer paying a little premium from Fostex if it means I donāt have to wait two months to get the best headphone under $400.
It had a different signature which led to a different sounding Argon though. However letās keep this thread on track
Go TYGRs!!!
Well got the 560s in. I think I just prefer the beyer sound signature.
The 990s detail, treble, separation, and space is my favorite sound in music. Likewise, the imaging and stage in gaming is better then I knew was possible.
Still want two nice cans for the wife and I. Possibly might just order another set of 990 600ohms, but would prefer to order a different set.
How do the 880 600s compare/contrast. I know theyāre supposed to sound more neutral. Is it going to sound closer to the sennheiser 560s/58x/6x0 sound signature in tonality, or closer to the 990 but just with richer vocals?
Remove some air from your 990s. Deplete the bass to slightly above neutral, raise and emphasize the mids more add some clarity, deplete and smooth the treble peak but keep that sparkle and detail, remove some soundstage and imaging(small amount on imaging) due to design and being semi open back, add more texture on the mids, headphone at 600 ohms scales just as well as 990
560s are extremely neutral with a touch of brightness dt 880 is bright yet nicely balanced overallā¦ adding a little more warmth to 880s(tube amp or pad swap) makes it rather harman like( subtle v) which is lovely
Hmmm, sounds like a nice complement that keeps that beyer sparkle im coming to love. Time for another order haha!
I hated them at first honestly, once I changed my amps to the asgard and liquid plat I fell in love with the 880, itās quite incredible
Hmm, what is it you hated about them?
Hi.
I have seen your reviews all over, just read your PC38X review.
I need a head headset/headphones-mic.
I am lost on what to purchase.
Do I go with the 38X, so i go with the 300rs?
The shorter cable on the 300r is a worry but if the sound is that good, would it be worth the inconvenience and cost of a modmic?
Are there any headsets that you recommend?
Lacking body, relative hollow soundings bass. Itās just part of the headphone but when I first got them it was very apparent.
Cables rather long if you need longer you can just buy a cheap extension. 300r destroys 38x in almost every category(mids on tygr arenāt the best). Depends on your budget. 38x is essentially the best headset at its price pointā¦ but only for headsets imo.
If your looking exclusively for a āheadsetā mh752 for closed back, pc38x for open back, beyers mx300 2nd gen for best closed back(its just a gamer version of dt 770 with a slight signature change), penrose for bluetooth(equalizer mandatory for competitive due to dark treble tendencies of audeze), tygr for best open back needs a secondary mic purchase(close to same price as mx300 after mic purchaseā¦ tygr easily beats the rest in terms of headsets)
Outside of those you will need an amp and dac plus a dedicated microphone of some sort which can drag that price up
