Assume I can run the 300rs from your mobo given itās low requriements?
Is the modmic the best attachable mic if you know about these things?
if you compared the mx300 and the 300r, assuming I got a attachable mic, what comes out on top?

The TYGR comes out on top due its open back.
Modmic is nice but if you want a cheap desk-mic you should get the fifine k669b. Its fairly sensitive tho so you need to do some tweaking.
The TYGRs can run off a mobo but do could use some extra juice due low volume.d the Tempite Sonata HD Pro is a cheap solution
Depends on the mb for the most part yes.
Modmic is fine Samson q2u is a good dynamic usb and theres plenty of decent cheap usb condenser mics.
Tygr 300r only due to the nature of open backs. If needing isolation mx300 works fine
Iād never recommend a cheap amp due to the fact cheap units are not really worthwhileā¦ they destroy sound quality
Sorry for all these questions,. I am learning heaps.
If the 300r was closed do you think the sound quality would be worse, equal or still better than the mmx300?
I would say extremely subjectiveā¦ but I would be concerned that closing the tygr would muddy up the bass or cause it to bleed into the mids. Even trying to fuss with tygr on an equalizer doesnt turn out well. Mmx300 has a 600 ohm variant(special ordered) so itās a bit more flexible in that regard. The tygr Is a modified dt 990ā¦ (much like mmx300 is a modified DT 770) theoretically you could get the tygr foam piece and put it in the 990sā¦ with some equalization you can get a remarkably close comparison but not spot on. 990s though at such low ohms sound pretty terrible imoā¦ makes tygr a good option since it can run ampless in most cases
Alright last questionā¦What the hell do i buy?
There are so many options and so much to choose from.
This all started because of you!!! I was set on the PC38X and I saw your review, which lead to the 300r, which lead me on some weird headphone vs headset goose chase.
Do you have an article anywhere, up to about $500 recommending different headsets/headphones at different price points?
I have a general write up if your playing competitivelyā¦ has a whole slew of information granted outdated(working on updating it still).
Depends on what you want to use it for, is music involved, if so what genres, what sound preferences, budget, amp or ampless, headset or headphone, lots to coverā¦
Got a good chuckle out of that
Music is generally not involved, the odd you tube clip.
General game use, I donāt play competitively, well not of anything that needs high class sound (rocket league).
I just like my games to sound good.
I also have kids and a wife who watches/plays game in the lounge while I am on my PC. I would prefer if she didnāt always hear A) my games and b) the stuff my mates sometimes say.
I am not adverse to open headphones if the quality gain is that big, but if it was not that much different then closed is a preference (if that makes sense)
The signature and tuning of the 38x leans more towards competitive, therefore alternatives would be a bit more idealā¦ more so if you wanted quality sound.
It just depends on the gameā¦ for example Iām not going to enjoy doom as much without bass or an rpg with an amazing orchestra soundtrack with recessed highs. It really boils down to what you play and your own preferences.
Well this makes it a bit more complicatedā¦ I can recommend a closed back if you prefer isolation. Open backs arenāt too bad on the leak but you will hear bits of it if your in the same room nearby.
So hereās the thing, closed backs are good for isolation and a sense of immersion as it focuses the sound more into your ears towards the center of your head. Open backs are good for that all encompassing sound kind of like a cinema or in some cases like tygr a speaker setupā¦ you get that 3d sound around your head that projects and breathes outward. Open back vs. Closed back is completely preference based and depends on a few factors and what you feel fits your needs most. Closed backs also generally have more bass while open have more treble and air(spacious).
If your looking just for a good closed headset for cheapā¦ look into coolermaster mh630 and itās two alternatives. Mh751 is less fun and brighter making it better for competitive. If you want a step up on the headsets that would be mmx300 2nd gen being one of the top headsets. Mmx300(make sure you pay attention to the impedance this one is a bit power hungry) is the dt770 with a bit of alterationsā¦ if you feel you can just grab a dt 770 + dedicated mic such as desk mic or modmic + amp/dac(would come out to around $260-$300 shopping smart) that would work well too. Wireless wise just grab a penrose for headsets or if you want cheaper the hyperx flight is decent.
If you felt maybe you like a little more narrow soundstage the headsets work wellā¦ meze are fairly nice and quite narrow(not the best gamer headphone but a good sound nonetheless), nighthawk carbon is a semi open so not too bad on the leak at all may work for you, akg k371 is a cheap one as well that isnāt too bad.
Gonna depend on budget and what sound signature you prefer at that pointā¦
Well, that opened up another 14 doors.
Over here the price of the Mmx300 is actually the same as the tygr with a mod-mike.
So I guess itās would be between the MMX300, the TYGR and the penrose. I had never heard of it (penrose) before, but itās getting some pretty good feedback. Digging deeper the Penrose looks pretty great, how do you think it sounds?
Itās the audeze mobius with fixed latency and removed 3d settingsā¦ works fine and a cheap planar. Audeze house sound is usually dark rich and slightly bassyā¦ penrose is a bit on the brighter side but has equalizer settings to resolve thatā¦
Mmx300 for isolation tygr for surrounding soundā¦ both have incredibly large soundstage. Make sure mmx300 is 2nd gen.
Cool, I guess then itās between mmx300 and the Penrose.
Go with mmx300ā¦
Thanks so much for the help. It has been a life saver.
Hmm. The reason I was looking at 880 was that I was hoping the much more present mids would produce a more enjoyable headphone for vocal tracks, while not losing that beyer sparkle. This description makes it seem like the 880 would be anemic in the vocals
I havenāt tried that mmx but I suggest the tygr. For me in competitive shooters, the most important thing is imaging, more then anything. Tygr is incredible in this department. Itās also a fairly ācinematicā headphone with its deep bass, and has a very very wide soundstage, so cutscenes and atmosphere in single player games will be great too
the Penrose still has my interest. Itās such a hard choice. The openness of the TYGR and the extra cable vs wireless vs wired MMX.
Your not wrong but he wanted more isolation. Mmx or rather the dt770 has that real big sound despite being closedā¦ makes it a good alternative
This depends purely on how much audio quality you are willing to sacrifice, but I wouldnāt go wireless
General question now.
How much are you sacrificing going closed? Is the difference noticiable to a noob like me?
Also, itās this one yeah? Beyerdynamic MMX300 MK2?
