šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

I mean itā€™s a very standard low impedance Beyerdynamic design looks like 880 with a paint job and from what I can understand from dms tuning doesnā€™t seem to be gaming oriented which is usually flat bright

I really hope these are good and beyer releases these everywhere without the bundle so I can stop reccomending high impedance beyers to gamers.

Man this is such a random thread to stumble upon - a hifi ā€˜gamingā€™ headphone? Never thought Iā€™d consider it.

I just lost a driver in my decade-old DT770ā€™s and Iā€™ve decided to use this occasion to move into open-back headphones. 58X, X2HR were on the short list, Audio-Technica seem like good value but maybe too uncomfortable and thereā€™s little info about their higher ranges. I love the other Beyers though they have their drawbacks (I disliked the 80 ohm DT770, loved the 250 ohm version and i loved my DT150 ages ago) and they would be a hard sell for me even if I love them for making their stuff in Europe.

Now, here I am, looking into package forwarding from Germany so I can buy a 32 ohm ā€˜gamingā€™ headphone with a silly ā€˜gamingā€™ name directly from Beyerdynamic. If what I have seen and read is just fractionally true, it seems they made a Frankensteinā€™s sound profile that has a bit of 880, 990 and 1990 with just a bass extension sprinkle of 770. If that is the case, they might be perfect for my taste and budget.

Even though Iā€™m in Denmark, literally bordering Germany, I cannot buy the TYGR directly unless bundled with the microphone. Beyerdynamic really hates money I guess.

Well that sucks, really strange they would do that

Europe is a bit motorcycle helmet laws and the death penalty in the US each state make up their own mind up  Thankfully the UK is now out of that.

ā€¦ and on top of that you can still buy directly from Beyerdynamic :grimacing: I just want some Beyers that can make my Elite Dangerous go ā€˜Boomā€™ properly.

Apparently so but probably + taxes?

The 300 R is a year old product, and the fox microphone is 2 years old. Iā€™m honestly wondering why they got bundled in the first place.

It is catered towards streamers for gaming in this caseā€¦ The microphone from reviews isnā€™t bad at all and the headphones rival the 880 which is a major favorite for streamers including jacksepticeye who wears the dt 880s religiously.

actually canā€™t wait to test it for myself. as someone who has auditioned the other beyers I am really interested in this setup. I have my doubts it will beat my dt 990s though

The easier to drive nature of them lends them to be easily paired with interfaces and maybe the built in amp so many of these usb mics have as well.

What DT990 do you have? The pro 250ohm or the primium 600ohm? I realy was buying the 600ohm until i saw DMS review of the tygrā€¦

These seem very interesting for sure.

I use the DT 990 Premium 600ohm with a liquid spark amp and a topping d10 dac. As a gamer, I donā€™t see the reason behind an extremely expensive setup unless you plan to really make audiophile a hobby, god help your wallet if you do this, or want to delve more into music there really isnā€™t a reason to take it much further. I see anything beyond the $400 a slight wasteā€¦ the prices on these products eventually do go down a bit and you can find them used(most of the time they will still be in mint condition) on places like Head-FI pretty cheap off other people. A good example of this iis hifiman Sundara which you could find on there for like $200 instead of $350-$500

Figure I will post my full list of comparisons I can do here as I have all these on hand. DT 1990 250 ohm, DT 990 premium 600 ohm, DT 880 premium 600 ohm, DT 177x (hasnā€™t come in doing it for audition reasons being sent by a friend), DT 770 250 ohm( I couldnt find a copy of the 600 ohm as its discontinued), Custome One Pro Plus(I tried the ā€œgameā€ too but this I feel has better sound and the plus version comes with a mic already) all in comparison to the Tygr 300 R. (and if itā€™s good enough I may compare it to my Sundara as well but thats a gamble if its better than my sundara thats an instant keep on my end.) I blame @RiceGuru for causing me to be spoiled on the beyerdynamic brand honestly. As a Gamer these headphones are just TOO good

Lol looking forward to the comparisons as a fellow Beyer fan

Looking for that review as a future buyer and because iā€™m too confused of what to get.

I should have a full review on all this by friday less some stupid crap happens in shipping, which has been an issue of late thanks to the virus. At latest, it will probably be all arriving next monday despite it all being on a two day ship order lol. I will let you know what I think when I can actually sit down with all of them. I tend to take a couple days with a newer headhpone to adjust to it and break it in a little bitā€¦ testing out of the box doesnā€™t tell me very much less I sit with it. That low ohm on the Tygr means I will be testing it on pc, console, and mobile as well so I will give my opinion on that as one of my bigger complaints on some headphones, LOOKING AT YOU 58X, is that despite being very low ohm they just donā€™t get loud enough less you crank them all the way up only to get pretty average volume despite being at 100% settings.

Iā€™ll likely jump on these when Iā€™m ready to drop the money on them lol. I have my elegia coming now but Iā€™m definitely interested in them. I kinda like how Beyer recognizes the following of people with these and the 770 enough to make them into gaming cans with different tunings. Itā€™s pretty cool of them.

But can they compete with Helios? Thatā€™s the real question.

I wouldnā€™t even bother comparing Helios when so little is known on them. As far as I see it even Ant said it had small staging which isnā€™t very good for a lot of gaming. least imo. I havenā€™t even looked at focal as they are usually outside of my budget lol of course Iā€™d love to try the Elex but not for $600
