I think your asking if there are pads that are larger than tygrs but do not destroy its signature?
That would be Dekoniās Elite Velour for Beyerdynamic headphones. Bigger and thickerā¦ perforated work as well too but they alter the sound a bit

Thanks, that is exactly what I asked! How do perforated alter the sound? Iām really just beginning to enter higher specs headphones moving up from gaming headphones so please excuse my noob questions
it doesnāt ruin the sound really but the addition of leather added some more tones to the low end and lower mids, soundstage increases due to larger pads regardless, imaging took a small hit to my ears nothing big, and the brighter peak was dialed in a little more due to less airy material being used.
Alright nice to know. Thank you very much for the infomations!
So Iāve got the TYGRs today and sent them back after a couple of hours.
Hereās the thing, I like my HD-558 that I bought for 30ā¬. So comparing headphones in context might be a bit unfair, since Iām always feeling like āthis is what 30ā¬ got meā.
Sound was - to put it simply - good. Better than HD-558 in terms of soundstage, detail.
But not miles ahead of what I already had and enjoyed.
I still wanted a bit more bass & punch from the TYGRs. The dealbreaker was comfort for me.
TYGRs earpads are big, too big for my ears. It was hard to find the right position, because there was so much room for error if you know what I mean.
The earpads material somehow irritated my skin. The pads were not that soft and felt quite hard.
The pressure, even tho it wasnāt as clampy as the HD-558, felt annoying on my jaw & head.
Sennheiser has the perfect pads to compensate for the clamp.
If the TYGRs felt more comfortable I would have probably kept them.
A good example for personal preferences & also how much earsize, headsize and so on matters.
you bought a headphone that is typically like $100-$200 for 30ā¦ yeah, thatās a ridiculous deal lol.
did you use an amp for it? tygr may be 32 ohms but itās quite demanding regardless in this mannerā¦ it loses a lot of itās bass without proper powerā¦
ah, wellā¦ honestly you could always switch those to the other silver padsā¦ those are more curved inwards so they hug your ears a bit betterā¦ if you try the other DT beyers with those pads it will give you a good idea on how those ones areā¦ I prefer the silver to the black honestly.
Itās memory foam velour, if the pads are in any form cold or even warm they will be stiff, and when the pads are new it takes a bit to break them in. You can fix this by of course warming them up somehow but also breaking in the pads by just putting them over something to compress the pads for a couple days. well that or dekoni elite velour works like a charmā¦but those pads are even bigger lol
if the clamp force was an issue or pads you could also have stretched the headphone out on itās box for a few days which stretches out the metal bandā¦ causing it to clamp less on your head and break in the pads as wellā¦
Subjective, but I am glad atleast your happy with your Senns
oh most definitely, I love the tygrsā¦ but well not every headphone suits each person of courseā¦
Haha appreciate all the tipsā¦ Iām just not really the type for ābreaking something inā tho.
It needs to feel somehow good, different or interesting right out of the box.
If it has that spark Iām invested. Tested on 2 different outputs at work, donāt remember the names - integrated in some big monitoring desks and stuff. I assume those are alright.
And I wanted to like the TYGRs - I donāt think theyāre bad either - but it was just too many small things that didnāt click with me.
Apologies if this has been asked already. Does anyone have any recommendations on an amp/dac that I can use on an iPhone 11 with these? I was thinking a Fiio BTR3K, BTR5, or even a Dragonfly Red (using the camera kit cable).
Just keep in mind that iPhones arenāt LDAC compatible, so you wonāt be able to take advantage on the Fiio devices.
Does anyone have any recommendations what to A/B these with, or some cans to complement the TYGR? 560S?
Reason for asking, very first time with decent quality gear and purchased the TYGRs with an Atom stack based the excellent people feedback and reviews on here. I donāt have any reference (besides Bose QC35s) and must admint intially I was bit underwhelmed, which seems to be not uncommon people trying high end gear first time. Intially it had me keep turning the volume down due to harshness, not reaching to crank it. I have since burned in for about 15 hours now and has improved with detail and reduced fatigue.
However primarily listening to music and youtube (thus far), I find the vocals are lost a bit and becomes fatiguing as I turn the volume up a bit to find the vocals. I suspect this is result of subtle V shape the cans have. I mainly listen to rock/punk/hardcore and find the vocals, not sure what is right word but washed out a bit and the high hats definitely pierce. I have yet to test these cans in gaming yet which is the other main use case.
Iām thinking I should buy the 560S to try, should I expect anything significantly different? Iām based in europe otherwise 6XX Iām thinking would be better. Or should I consider some EQing or some decent bookshelf speakers instead?
I highly suspect that you prefer a little bit warmer headphones with a faster & cleaner bass response.
What bands are you listening to these days?
I think you would be right, Iām not sure if I was been picky but the bass didnāt seem remarkbly tight. Not sure if this is scandalous, but Iām enjoying music on a Bose Soundlink Mini more than the TYGRs the moment - but I have still owned less than 24hours and might need some ear training.
I do cover most mainstream genres, however primarily interested in Millencolin and Red Hot Chilli Peppers on one end and up to Bring Me the Horizon and Architects on the heavier end.
I just read again that you listen on youtube, the music quality there is usually pretty bad due to compression & a sample rate between 128kb & 192kb (correct me if iām wrong).
Do you feel the same when listening to better quality?
I personally felt the TYGRs were a bit harsh for my taste, but Iām sensitive to treble.
It is a bit V shaped as far as i know & vocals can seem a bit distant.
Sorry the music listening and comment is all on Spotfy premium highest quality (320kbps). The youtube comment was more general daily driving - watching general interest videos the vocals are perhaps not super pronounced.
Yes slightly distant vocals is a good way to describe it.
Maybe give it some more days & return them if youāre not happy by then?
However, the way you describe your experience so far - they might not be for you.
I think that is the go. Do you think 560S would be better alternative or something like HE-400i be a more intersting comparison (or other). I have 30days left to return TYGR so can get another pair and A/B for a week or so.
Never listened to the 560S or HE-400 series.
Iāve heard alot of good about the HD560S tho & I love the comfort of the Sennheiser 500 series.
Personally, got used Sivga Phoenix for 180ā¬ and sold everything else - but things are so subjective.
And those are somewhat niche due to fit.
I think 600-series Sennheisers sound like a good idea based on this feedback.
Treble-sensitivity crossed with sub-optimal source material, Beyer and Atom might not be the best recipe for you.
The Senns600 are very āeasyā to me and have a very mid-forward profile and āintimateā delivery that should come across very different and deliver the things youāre currently wanting.
ppl
I ve been searching for a good headest and finnaly ordered the Tygr s
I was helped a lot on my research by several postās made by the audiophiles members here.
My main concern is how to drive them well.
Now, since they have the 32 ohms/ -96db nominal impedance/SPL i have to consider my onboard setup wich is a SupremeFX s1220a rated at RMAA performance reaching 113 db wich comes with 10 DAC channels, having an ESSA SABRE9018Q2CA integrated DAC/AMP capable of reaching -115dB THD+NA and 121dB DNR, ESSA Sabre Hi-Fi ES9023PES9023P converter capable of -94dB THD, RC4580 amp, high precision clock source, audio line shielding, Nichicon capacitors, switching mosfetās, de-pop relay & gold plated audio jacks.
As my main purpose is comp gaming (EFT) i need to know your opinions, any thoughts/suggestions will be more than welcomed.
Test the 1220a firstā¦ it should be plenty. That codec can push 250 ohms from my experience. If you need an amp dac one can be suggested depending on budget
