I don t have the Tygr s here yet, just ordered them and should have them only next week.
Please do suggest me an dac/amp to if you think it will improve my Tarkov experience, as far as i understand, an external dac/amp combo will generally improve the sound experience even from the perspective of beeing outside pc’s and more isolated than onboard setup but just don t know how much improvement bring in comp gaming area.
In tygrs case… not a big improvement… bit more clarity, more space on the sound, sometimes a bit more warm. It’s not a headphone that scales quite high unlike the other beyers.
If you still want an amp and dac, what budget would you be looking at?
On the low side to be honest, just upgraded the whole setup (10700k, rtx 3070, mb, hdd, ram etc), savings almost at the end, struglled to get the tygrs at low as posibile -135euros. But the sound it s crucial in ETF (as you allready mentioned on another thread here) so if the dac/amp will improve the sound exp i ll sale a kidney and get ready to drop in what it takes but, if i get it right from you… there is not much to improve with the external dac/amp setup…
I made my plans on the acoustic side upon reading most of your inputs and finally opted for the Tygr’s as i deducted from your statements that they are very close to the dt1990/T1.2 setup, wich needed an dac/amp for sure, thinking that if this upper tier setup put s like, let s say a 15% improvement but with a 50% higher cost, i m better for the moment with the Tygr’s.
I can wait to get in the raids with the Tygr’s (meanwhile playng also some nice emotions on the hideout/flea time) but i will be honest and say that i also dream on HD880s setup, being the higher tier for my needs and expectations (based also mainly on your inputs)
Thank s again for your kindness.
That is correct… I would still recommend waiting till you get them… if they run off your board as they should… I’d say hold off and get a more future proof setup since it sounds like you plan to upgrade later anyway…
They are to an extent… the other two here outperform the tygrs though as they have better treble which leads to better detail retrieval meaning they have an easier time with the sound. Tygr is still laser accurate and does fine but it is better for those who have treble intolerances otherwise the 990 at its 600 ohm variation would be the better option as the tygrs are a dialed back 990
I’d say… bout a 10% improvement hence why I say not really worth if you can put it off for now. Looking at $400 tops for amp and dac together. Entry levels are half that but from my experience the $200 units yield the best results… good thing is you don’t need to be too concerned with upgrades past that point less you go past the $500 margins on headphones
I’ll gladly take my t1 over those sennheisers any day of the week. They may be better but not twice the cost better… t1 is my absolute go to for competitive and sound preferences… 1990 was too aggressive but it does perform slightly better depending on the game… i honestly wouldn’t go past $600 margins on headphones and $400s on amps and dacs… marginal returns in competitive as far as upgrades go
I m glad that you lean to T1 (.2 i guess after reading your .3 review) as i was having the impression that you place them on the same spot with the 1990’s which, despite the treble “debate” were found to be a little harsh to wear for long time sessions.
My mention over the HD880s was made after i got the chance to hear them (both gaming and music) and even if i m not an audiophile (at least a dedicated one),well… that was an unforgetable experience, or let me put it this way…it was the moment i realise how easily you can pin a sniper miles away (to quote you again) even if you re right in a close fight.
Anyway, i assume your inputs are in EFT terms (were the sound it is what it is) and, realistically speaking, as i m not in the possition to spend +1500 on acoustic’s, i will make my dream more realistic and eventually lean toward a T1.2 setup.
But for the moment can t wait to feel the -10% of it.
Well both are quite bright it’s that 1990 has more of a peak and is much more aggressive about it.
I would say try the beyers before going straight to hd800 series… then try the aryas before a full commitment. Before that… I mean if you want supreme competitive overkill from hell look into electrostatic driver headphones… e stats have the most clarity and speed meaning their ability to emphasize fps sounds is ridiculous… their problem Is you need a special amp for them called an Energizer which only works on estats and these particular headphones are extremely expensive… outside of that is the Tesla driver (beyers like t1 use this) and planars(known for speed and slam)
If you can, and want to try the other drivers… good examples that are budget friendly are hifiman sundara for planars and estat look into koss esp 95x from drop if you can find one with return policies as that’s like the cheapest you can go there. Tesla drivers just upgrade to my own beyer to test that…
Something to keep in mind is that the t1.2 like its previous 600 ohm cousins scales like crazy… it will respond very highly to higher grade amps and dacs meaning it will grow with a setup if your driving down the rabbit hole… 990 and 880 both do this as well in 600 ohms tygr however, does not it was designed for treble intolerance and to attempt to be ampless for gamers
Just saw that remark. So when I make Input I sit down and look at every single variable and how it performs. How does it stack up against competitive priced headphones and if it performs well enough how does it stack up against others priced higher…without eq just the sound the way it is… the tygr performs like a $500 warm or subtle v shaped headphone… it does have some drawbacks such as if you like vocals or alot of treble it can sound veiled or lacking in clarity. It has a very rich speaker like presentation to it a laser accurate imaging accompanying a very large soundstage… it sounds more intimate compared to 990 as 990 has more treble and air which adds a more spacious sound. Overall it’s an absolute fantastic headphones however now there may be a potential upgrade which I haven’t gotten to yet called harmonicdyne zeus… I have my doubts but very possible
Oh yes, Zeus and their astonishing look…Would be quite intresting to se an review/compare from your part/perspective.
Back to the Tygr’s, do you found the built in cable coupling solid enough or reccomend a plug retrofiting? As i did find my self steping over the cable when i suddenlly rise up…
Also, what do you think about the Antilon modmic pairing? Do you think it would pick up the in game Tarkov sound? As i don t what to disturb my teamates when i play in Discord and noticed that some of the open back headsets do come with this unconvenient.
I personally find it fine, but I know many who had them modded to be detachable just incase something goes wrong. It could use stretching out though so it lays flat fresh out of the box
I have not had this particular issue with tygr and modmics they pair just fine from my experience though, if it does somehow become an issue you can just adjust sensitivity settings and fix that
@Falenkor,
Related to the “supreme competitive overkill” you mentioned, as the estats being those and the esp 95x + energizer is $390, wouldn t be this the best bet?How reliable they are?
Theres quite a few drawbacks to this is the issue. The energizer cannot be used on other headphones, the sound signature isn’t the best for casual gaming, the 95x build quality is quite cheap, the comfort is questionable and pads can feel scratchy, most game engines(about 90% of them) cannot use all of the headphones capabilities
They are 390$…not 59.000 like the HE1, we wouldn t expect them to compare though, that s for sure.
I always had EFT in my mind and, as you have sayd, EFT is not CS, Valorant, COD or pretty much most of the other fps.
For me and my “audiophile free” experience It s somehow like picking the pc38x because they are top rated and reviewd, as they perform very well in most of the fps, but in EFT they re outperformed.
That s why i came accros Tygr’s but wouldn t mind consider the +10% ,+ 20% or more …options. Just in case my kidney finnaly sales.
So, we can say that, in terms of EFT, estats and arya’s get the gold, the silver goes to t1.2/dt1990 and the Tygr,dt880/dt990 got the bronze?Would you add or cut something to the tier?
T1.2, 1990, esp 95x as they all can go quite neck and neck
Dt 990 600 ohm, tygr 300r
Dt 880 600 ohm or 250, dt 990 250 ohm
I can add plenty in there honestly but those all are very strong in EFT. I place 95x with 1990 because despite it being an estat the staging still isn’t as big as a t1 and in terms of imaging and clarity it is pretty close to what the 1990 can do just marginally better. I normally would say get the 1990 over the 95x due to how flexible the signature is on 1990 through minor modifications such as a pad swap which just isn’t as good for 95x plus you don’t need an Energizer for 1990 or t1. While technically it can best t1 in placements… everything else is preference or it can fall short… t1.2 is like a mini hd800s its ridiculously good but it doesnt change its signature as much as 1990
@Falenkor , just got them and notice the sound is weak, i guess they do need a drive.
What do you suggest please
Also, they seems to make my hearing presurized, is that the high tolerance?
could be a mixture of things… they don’t have much treble problems really and can take some getting used to… if it’s causing major discomfort it may be best to change headphones.
they will sound very off if not fully dirven. Depends, what would you be looking at in terms of budget?
If i need an amp/dac , i can go for arround 100usd but want to figure for sure if they are not properlly drived so, as the sound is pretty much weak, i ve been looking so far just trough the windows 10 audio set up, the levels are set to max everywhere, i still can t find the amplification level setup, they say that this MB cones with it but so far the sound is way out, i ll say that the sound level is pretty much like on my toshiba laptop or even close to the level my samsung note 9 can push them, wich seems quite confusing… so what s your recconandation at this point
