đŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

no worries, I will probably get to them myself soon enough. Provided it doesn’t murder the bass I think the pads will respond quite well. Considering how these pads treat the 1990
I can’t see these being feasible on 990 at all
on 880 and 770 though maybe. T1 they sound quite nice

So someone from Dekoni got back with me today. Said that USPS lost my package :frowning:

So anyway they went ahead and gave me another order number and is now on it’s way.

So I just bought some used 1990 and I enjoy them a bit. They came with some Elite velours and the 8k passive filter. I believe they sound a bit better then the 990s and TYGR, more full and dynamic I think. The EV are comfy and nice. I seen Z’s Beyerdynamic Dekoni video and was curious if the video holds any validity.

I know you have alot of experience with the 1990 and was curious what pad you recommend. almost like it’s not worth trying to keep the 990s and TYGR since the 1990s can sound like either of them. I do enjoy big soundstage and bass, treble doesn’t bother me. Z recommends choice suede for wide bassy intense smooth sound. Choice leather for low-end treble. I also have the Ori pads but haven’t tested yet. I’m curious if you’ve experienced the same experience.

I’m also curious if you’re still running the TYGR filters in your 1990s as well and what I does for the frequency.

yeah, the thing about 1990 is that it’s extremely adaptable. Depends on the signature your looking for
I do get the same sound from using suedes on the 1990 it heavily depletes that treble and smooths out the signature while raising that bass by a lot
the comfort is no joke either as it’s superb. Leathers yeah, absolutely agreed but only the CHOICE leather
sheepskin sounded pretty bad to me. I am personally testing with the new choice suede hybrids which seem to raise all 3 frequencies on the 1990
 it’s quite something

just depends on what signature im looking for
the filter depletes the treble peak and raises the bass by a small margin but it drastically changes the signature if going to like
suedes as it can go full on dark sounding together. I have been using the filters to test the new hybrids on it as the peak is a bit much helps alot in my opinion
I heavily recommend the filters just as an extra addition
they are very cheap and nice to have for the 1990. As far as comparing tygr to the 1990? well, tygr has it’s own signature but it’s not as adaptable
it’s just really good for what it is.

Awesome I may check out the choice suede pads for the extra bass, do you think from early impression that the choice suede hybrids may do bass and frequency better then just the regular choice suedes?

very debateable but I would say no since the regular suedes place more emphasize on just the bass while hybrids seem to be amplifying most of the signature to a higher degree. Not even sure how the hybrids will respond on tygr yet
 haven’t tested

If you’re just looking for more bass, an option to look at might be the Elite Hybrid, they boost the low-end bass but don’t mess too much with the mids and treble.

Alright, just got in the Choice Hybrids and here are a few things I notice:

TYGR 300 R:

  • Darker, richer sounding
  • Vocals take a slight step back
  • More bass (Sounds great with EDM if you want more “thump” to your sound)
  • Smoother sounding, without any sharpness in the highs
  • Emphasis on strings
  • Less of a “zhing” sound in the highs. (Might be why strings sound better to me)

Again just some quick first impressions with the pads. Listen to them also on the T1 Gen 2 and would said they are decent and I would probably prefer them more on the T1 than the TYGR.

Going to test them on the 1990 and give me thoughts

hmm well vocals were already stepped back on tygr but now more so yeah I am getting that for sure

I am surprised it has become bassier without distorting to hell
very good amount of impact and thump with these pads
 bit much for me personally.

Extremely smooth sounding on those mids and highs

agreed on less zhing but it does sound actually slightly brighter while remaining warmer on the lows and mids
it has this richer presentation with a brighter approach on that treble to my ear
honestly it’s responding similar to what I got with the 1990 but the mids lacking a bit throws me off
sat here listening for a few hours, treble definitely is brighter than those stock pads it sounds
honestly a bit like the 250 ohm 990 now which is damn weird

I honestly don’t mind these pads on the tygr
they are a good option in my opinion
but the one that seems to respond best is absolutely the T1 over there

Yea I didn’t leave them on the TYGR
it was a bit much for my taste. It was a bit more dialed down on the T1 gen 2. But yea I would say if someone is looking for some pads to tame the highs with a bit more smoother and richer with a bit more extra bass then these will do that.

eh, after using the clears and all that for so long now I just can’t go back to recessive mids lol. I love the tygrs but i needs my mids. Still though yeah, agreed
these are too much for me but still very nice. plus the comfort on these pads is wonderful

btw, does your pads crinkle a bit on your ear? mine have this crinkling sound in the pad when I put them on or press on them.

Yea they do have a crinkle sound if I press in on them and when I put them on my head.

So just listened to these with the 1990
 hmm
I don’t think it tames the highs too much on the DT 1990. But does give it more low end and warmer sound. It’s not drastically dark sound like it was on the TYGR. Kinda interesting
Cause I had the Elite Hybrid on them DT 1990 and that brings down the highs a bit more. This is like the hybrids but just a tad less if you “enjoy” the highs.

Yea I am have really been enjoying my Focal Clears
really don’t listen to the T1 or TYGR all that often anymore when it comes to music listening.

EDIT: So just tried these on the DT 880 and
 noooo
made the sound stage too narrow. Vocals were still not as forward but it was like I was several rows back from the “stage” in a boxed room. (Was listening to Chris Jones - Long After You’re Gone). Was really weird.

Makes the highs a bit more pronounced but I’m alright with them it’s a good alternative. I still like my suedes more.

I’m in the same boat though not sure which I prefer more as I have both elex and clear in house. Leaning more towards. Clear
thinking I might start selling stuff off soon tygrs included.

Least it sounds great on t1
wish I had this pad swap variety on the focals

I got that dekoni suede headband too. It’s really nice

Yea I added the suede headband to the TYGR. It is really nice. Didn’t really need it, but I will probably just leave it on as it is softer and I don’t really notice it as much on my head.

Interesting you mention that because I have the Elite Hybrids that I just put on my TYGRs:

Yeah I think I would agree with this, although I didn’t really hear any sharpness in the highs to begin with and I’m pretty sensitive to that stuff (DT770 and Dekoni Blues were unlistenable for me).

I like the stock velour pads that came with them for general listening, gaming, etc. but I’m a bit of a Dekoni homer and I think these pads are so comfortable; it really does emphasize the bass way more. I have to just barely tune the bass down with my Loki+ which is really unusual for me, lol.

I got these as gaming headphones because of the fantastic imaging, but with the pads they’ve become my all-rounders (replaced my 177X GOs).

Hey there, I recently switched from my DT 770’s (80ohm) to the TYGR’s and I love them!
Sadly I miss the comfort of my Dekoni Elite Sheep skin pads (on my 770’s).
I’m pretty sure they’ll sound awful on the TYGR’s though so now I’m thinking whether I should get the Elite Velours

I don’t mind a small change to the sound signature but I’d like to keep it as close to stock as possible.
Stock pad’s aren’t an option though, my ears touch the drivers which is annoying AF!
Any thoughts guys?
Thanks

Hmm
I have the Elite Velour, but haven’t ever needed to actually add them to the TYGR cause they sound great in stock and I think they are comfortable as they are. But I could give it a shot. I would think that it would probably sound fine without change much. Might give them just a tad more soundstage if I had to guess.

Ok so adding them there is a very slight change I am hearing. They are a tad warmer than stock. Tuning doesn’t really change much other than that. If that is something you are ok with then that should be fine. But personally I prefer the stock pads on the TYGR still.

That would be highly appreciated

Such a minor change is perfectly acceptable in my book.
Thanks for trying them out  !
Did the imaging/sound stage change?
