I’ve been reading a lot about tygr 300 r and bought a pair from Europe Beyerdynamic (currently shipping).
I saw that they were often said to be not loud enough.
I would like to use them on my PS5. Will they sound loud enough on my controller or should I get a dac/amp to plug into the usb port of the PS5 ? I guess I would also improve a lot the sound quality.
From what i read, PS5 usb ports are UAC1 compatible only. I saw that IFI ZEN DAC V2 (can be flashed to be in UAC1 mode) was very well rated but I am not sure it is the best combination with the tygr 300 r (warm dac/amp with warm headphones). I guess I should search on a dac/amp that would put forward mids to the tygr 300 r for the best sounding from these headphones.
Could someone here advise me on the dac/amp that would be the best (< 300 €) for combining with these headphones ? (My PS5 is linked to a 24’’ screen so I can not use any optical output from the screen)
My profile :
Solo gamer only
Want to get the best immersive experience out of the PS5 (from what I read, the tygr 300 r should be able to provide this to me : bass will be there, soundstage and laser pinpoint should enable 3D audio to be there, even distinguishing if a noise is coming from upside or downside, which should not be the case of the PC38X according to Fresh Review Youtuber, and a new experience as DMS spoke of them as a 5.2 speakers experience)
Own an Audeze Penrose, and love the sound of these headphones (but because they are closed back, i cannot hear the baby crying ; that’s why i am searching an open back option)
Edit : If you have another suggestion of headphones that would suit best my needs, please tell me.
Anyone that purchased direct from Beyerdynamic have a weird experience with the process? I purchased direct, kept getting 404 errors when I went to check my order on the website. I did get a tracking number and received the item. However the pending payment never cleared not due to insufficient funds or anything. It’s just been a really weird process?
Got the zendac and zencan. The zendac is not warm. Its actually pretty neutral if you ask me. I would try the tygr first and see if you get enough volume and go for the dac later. you can get a big discount if you buy it used. got a full zenstack with the v2 dac and a balanced cable for 200 euros. The tygr is really awesome. Its the only headphone I regret selling cause its really enjoyable and immersive.
Thanks a lot.
Since I live in La Reunion, and it’s difficult to be delivered, I have to wait for my step parents to come with the Tygr 300r and if the power of the dualsense is not enough I will have to wait 6 months more.
But from what you said, I eventually purchased the zen dac v2. I think it should deliver enough power and it will be better sound straight from the PS5 than dualsense ´s.
When I get them in a few weeks I will post a comment here. From what I ‘ve read they should offer an awesome experience.
the tygrs just arrived, and these are the first beyerdynamic i have ever owned. i feel like i should apologize for doubting the stock pads. they are not only the most comfortable oem pads, but they have a nice texture. if i had to describe them, they are between the silkiness of dekoni choice suede pads, and the fluffiness? grainy-feel? of their elite velours.
I listened to “No Surprises” by Radiohead, and the instrument separation is superb. I am a person who has treble sensitivity, and yet, these headphones do the right job. I had a similar enjoyment factor when I used velour pads on my Yamaha HPH-MT5. HOWEVER I am getting those tingles & chills you would get from ASMR. This happens when I hear the contrasting bass guitar and glockenspiel, or when I hear the metallic timbre of the electric guitar. The bass & sub-bass do not muddy the vocals at all, and likewise, the vocals don’t blur the synth and glockenspiel.
These headphones respond very well to Japanese music (Idk if this is JPop or JRock), because just like No Surprises, the bass and sub-bass doesn’t muddy the vocals, and the instrumentation is well-represented:
Edit: I can see why DMS compares this to a speaker system. These headphones remind me a lot like movie theater audio.
okay, these beyerdynamic cans did something to me. somehow, they apply the same pressure-point that i dont like, but since there’s no clamp, it doesnt feel painful over time.
as a result, i bent my my senheisser hd6xx’s to the extreme, and now they have a similar clamping pressure as the tygrs. they feel super duper comfortable now. like, it was as if the pain was all a lie.
headphones can be magical artifacts beyond sound, i guess.
So I sold DT880s due to discomfort before and got a pair of these for 50 bucks yesterday thinking “what the hell” and can wear these for hours. My guess is that it has to do with the fact that under the pads (above the material that covers the driver) there’s a “deadzone” which makes the overall depth higher resulting in less pressure on my ears. Either that or b/c the material that covers the driver which was thin foam on the DT 880 is actually thicker and softer here. Or both. If your ears are sticking out quite a bit like mine, this might make a difference.
@Shinidoshi Thank you. That’s a ton of useful information (speaker/movie-like presentation, good separation, no muddiness for vocals, treble within the limits for a sensitive person, manageable fit).
@ShungiteTrillionaire Glad to hear you got rid of the discomfort and hope they stay comfortable.
Edit: Just bought mine. They don’t ship to my country (BD are highly regionalized and ship some of their stuff only to select few countries in Europe), but they do ship to my sister’s and she’s going to be visiting for Christmas, so I’m gonna either be patient or ask her to mail them over ASAP.
Edit 2: Dekoni Choice Suedes look interesting. Not less of a V but a different one — less bass (bigger difference than with sheepskins), much more mid, and a 10K spike (Sennbeyer? LOL…).
Nope, wore them for quite a few hours without discomfort. No problems with the headband either which seems to have extra padding. I’d say I have average to above average sized ears that stick out and the size of the earpads is sufficient as well. So the main build problem of the 880 and its breathren was the shallowness and/or lack of padding between ear and driver. I tried the new DT 700 and it seemed much deeper as well, no surprise as they change quite a few things about the build. I didn’t have it on my head for a substiantial amount of time but I can almost guarantee that they’d be comfy for hours on end as well (which was more obvious since they were clearly redesigned, but I still thought I’d mention it for completion’s sake)
No groundbreaking revelations here but I can def. see why people recommend it for gaming. You have a clear picture of what and where everything’s going on, I haven’t tested much music yet but a good example is The National - Boxer. I always felt that the songs there build up gradually and in the latter sections they turn into this wishy washy mud of instruments, but with the Tygr I don’t have the feeling of it being muddled up. It’s not just that everything’s in front of me, but as if everything’s placed correctly. One could say immersive. I will be keeping them just for this novelty alone. I watch lots of DayZ on Twitch at the moment. The game has lots of ambient music and noises that are being brought to life. I think that the frequency response is also fitting, though I haven’t heard too many explosions yet.
I’m sure there’s a lot of higher end HPs that can do this better but at this price I’ll take it.
Some good folks here recommended 3D classics from Amazon Music’s HD section. That might be interesting with the Tygrs. Orchestral game soundtracks with a bit more bass (think Warcraft 2 going through London Symphonic Orchestra) could also be cool. One other thing that comes to my mind is military songs from war movies, like when there’s a whole column of grunts marching and singing, perhaps with some engines thrown in for good measure. Bridge on the River Kwai, that sort of thing. Or something with aircraft dogfights, to test the stage and imaging. Pew! Pew! Pew! Also wonder how FIFA players feel about this headpiece. Or city sims. Like when you have that huge isometric field with buildings and streets, teamsters, firemen, water carriers / modern service trucks and everybody else and his dog passing through, some river or pond somewhere, maybe a port in this or that direction, a fountain or two distinct waterfronts in the same hearing range. A fire here, a fight there, something else somewhere else. Or I’m thinking about something like Novigrad in TW3, I wonder how strolling through the city would feel with a huge and accurate soundstage, for example hearing the sounds from the port when you can’t see it on the screen but it’s supposed to be on your left or right or behind your back or a hundred steps in front of you. I hope I’m not setting my expectations too high.
