Iā€™m so glad he liked it. That was a very nice video. His intro animation is pretty sick too haha.

Iā€™ll try to give a complete answer to the everything being red thing. But first, yeah, Iā€™m willing to make any of our designs in whatever color, just contact [email protected] . The lead times are a little longer for that but it is not a problem!

So for an answer to why only redā€¦

Part of the impetus for starting Hart Audio Cables were two of my more major frustrations shopping around for aftermarket cables:

  1. Lead times
  2. Price

Long story short, standardizing things like lengths, color, and focusing on the Headphone Cable / Interconnect system not only reduces prices, but also allows us to have a lead time of 2 business days on all of the stock cables on the site. Those were two of my main problems I wanted to try to address.

Now I chose red just cause itā€™s my favorite color, but Iā€™ve thought about maybe doing a thing where we split things up into runs and have folks vote on what the color should be on each run. Not sure how feasible that is though.

As I said before, weā€™ll still do custom colors / lengths / whatever connector combination people want through our custom shop, itā€™s just a little bit of a cost adder and lead times go up. I think right now even going that route weā€™re still less expensive and quicker than a good portion of outlets. I guess weā€™ll find out if thatā€™s sustainable or not though.

For now Iā€™m just trying to keep up, people really want to replace the 177x GO cable haha.

Hoped that answered your question.

This is a good idea imo, and I think it will help you stand out and be successful in the custom cable market. I hope it works really well for you :+1:

Regarding the color, perhaps consider having two different colors readily available, as you could continue with red, but I would also suggest making black available with short lead times as well, as black is a standard and non polarizing color that personally I think more people would be willing to buy (personally I donā€™t care as long as the cable is high quality, but I know some people who would care)

Thank you very much. That means a lot. I hope youā€™re right, haha.

This is actually something I have been considering! Great thinking. I hate to say something so slimy but part of the choice for red was the idea of brand recognition. The idea that eventually someone might be at a convention or HiFi meetup and see someone with red cables and the 4-pin system and immediately think Hart Audio Cables. But I admit itā€™s no fun to think about things on those terms and I honestly do really like the way black looks as well. Itā€™s also the consideration of instantly doubling our SKU count on product. Something I know weā€™re not capable of at the moment. But in the future it would be very nice if it became possible.

Lol thatā€™s not a slimy thing, I didnā€™t even consider that, that is something to consider. Brand presentation is important

@brux

Guess what showed up today! I ordered these last week and have them in my hand. They are wonderful and HartAudio had my endorsement and promise for future orders.

He also made a special item for me that is going to make my Sony WH-1000M3 collect a lot of dust.

2.5mm balanced to mini XLR, connecting these bad boys to my EarStudio ES100. It works. I will be wearing these a lot.

Haha yes. Thatā€™s the #1 selling point in regards to the 177x cable replacement. And thatā€™s how he hooks you! I had no intention of setting up all of my headphones with balanced cables until this guy came along

Glad youā€™re happy with them! That little cable for the Ear Studio looks like it worked out great! Really cool set up.

Making all these cables for the 177x makes me feel like I should own a pairā€¦

<3 Working on your order today, small chance it goes out tomorrow, but for sure Monday. Will send pics

Felt like I had to get a pair for myself. I like 'em so far.

Nice, hope you enjoy themšŸ‘

Just curious do you think they change much from balanced to unbalanced?

would also be interested in the comparison

very cool blue @brux
Because of the adapter we wrote aboutā€¦
got it from the same I got the rest of the chain to match the braided thing and colours
But later this year I order your adapter box + a balanced cable for my next headphones- not sure yet which it will be

I really havenā€™t had a chance to compare yet!! Only listened in balanced so far. Iā€™ll see if I can post my thoughts after I get more time on them.

@Martin_Lesch

That sounds good! Let me know!

Posting this here since itā€™s more appropriate for discussion than the what did you buy today thread.

Weirdly FedEx delivered my Drop DT 177X on Sunday. First impression? WTF did I buy, no the treble on these is not tamed at all! Treble is the preponderance of everything I hear! Ugh. Gonna have to break these in for like a week at high volume to see where the wind up.

If they donā€™t warm up quite a bit I think theyā€™ll get a for sale ad PDQ. Man, all I wanted was a decent quality closed cans in the $350 dollar neighborhood.

Iā€™ll report back in a week I guess.

Edit: on the other hand, the build on theme is SOLID! They are light and very comfortable. Sundaras wish they came with this kind of build quality.

Update, all hope is not lost. I played them for about 12 hours in loud AF mode. I used the box the Dekoni perf sheepskin pads I ordered for it as a sound muffle. The headphone clamped on the box just perfect to deaden most of the sound leaking, then I threw a towel over the whole thing and went to bed.

It is better today, so Iā€™ll do the same thing again tonight see how much I can tame this beast.

I will say there are good things about it. Detail is good, they are intimate which is a new to me since all of my previous headphones are open and all featured loads of sound stage. Intimate is a nice alternative. Theyā€™re light, a lot lighter than anything else Iā€™ve got yet the build quality is impressive for what it it and they just look like something a pro would wear.

To put my commentary into perspective, my daily and go to HPs are the Audeze LCD-2 phazored. To me, theyā€™re the perfect balance. These 177X come in a take a huge dump all over that and force me to listen differently. Iā€™m finding out that when I listen differently, I hear things differently. What I mean is that these place more emphasis on detail and in certain tracks are very good. Classic rock seems to shine on them. I wouldnā€™t say they lack bass; planars theyā€™re not but the bass is there, itā€™s simply that initially the preponderance of 3k and up sound overwhelmed everything else and thatā€™s what I believe Iā€™m settling with the loud AF overnight burn in.

I have some ideas at so how to mod them a little bit should they require more but at least today Iā€™m not hating on them, actually Iā€™m looking at them with a new perspective of their possibilities.

Some commentary on the balanced cable, the cable it comes with sucks ballz. They will go back in the box, never to be taken out again. Today Iā€™ll try to make a balanced cable for them. I realized the connector for the Audeze LCD-2 is the same four pin mini XLR these require. I bought 8 of those connectors (Neutrik) and have 6 left so Iā€™ll use one. Iā€™ve got good Canare cable which is my go to for all of the cables I make. I bought 75 feet about two years ago and still have a lot of cable left. Just need to dig up or cannibalize a Neutrik 4 pin XLR from something Iā€™m no longer using, or just wait until the ones I ordered yesterday get here. Depend on how impatient I get. Might as well wind up waiting to do another couple of nightā€™s worth of burn in.

So chin up, maybe, just maybe I didnā€™t piss away $375. BTW the Drop purchase was $380 but with a $25 discount on top of that which is not worded very well in the drop, but apparently the $25 dollar discount applies not just for the THX amp pairing.

Kinda want to pick up a pair and swap on the Amiron alcantara pads and tuning foam for fun and see if it makes a noticeable difference. Not really treble sensitive but am curious.

Has anyone ever done a direct comparison between these and the MMX300? Iā€™ve got a friend on the office who has a pair, and I like them a lot. Just curious if the extra $$$ for these gets you more detail and cleaner bass?
