šŸ”¶ Campfire Audio Andromeda

Yeah I always thought that they are what other IEM’s are judged by ie a bench mark?

They certainly have been that for me. I got inspired this morning and wrote up quite the lengthy review of Solaris that included comparisons to OG Andromeda and a few other IEMs.

OG?

Original Green(sta).

There are more than half a dozen variants that share the name ā€œAndomedaā€ but have various color changes and tweaks to the tuning. In fact, even the original green Andros have a couple generations (no idea how much the sound has changed, but I believe there were minor changes to the cable and leather pouch that they come with).

Anyway, ā€œOGā€ refers to the basic model with original tuning.

Just a quick question if I may…have you tried the Solaris’s super Litz cable on the Andro’s if so did it make and audio improvements over the std Litz?

Picked them up today and mint they are plus it’s always nice when things come with the warranty card and original receipt :+1:

I’m not one to ascribe sonic differences to cables unless it’s a cable doing something wrong (e.g., loose connection). I’ve never been able to experience [repeatable] differences from a cable swap that I couldn’t explain away with another more plausible explanation. For example, I find that many of my IEMs sound better balanced, but I believe the reason for that is the balanced paths in my source chains are likely more optimized, the total lack of crosstalk may bring out a smidge more detail refinement, or even differences in output impedance could change damping factor. If the balanced cables are contributing anything it’s mixed up with the other variables that change.

That said, I don’t shy away from nice cables for nice IEMs, and I love the Campfire / ALO cables. They’re comfortable, well-built, and look really sharp. Some time ago ALO had a clearance sale on them and I picked up a couple extra litz and pure silver litz cables at a great discount. The super litz comes standard with Solaris, but I haven’t bothered moving it around to other IEMs.

They’re here!!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts! What are you gonna run them through? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Hey buddy I’ll be using my iFi Micro iDSD I gave them a few hours use last night mostly to experiment with tips (I’m lucky in that department as most tips seem to fit me a ok) to see which work best on them. Spinfit’s seem good so far but I’ve got some Spiral dots on order. I’ll give then a week or so before I give my thoughts but they’re already bringing a smile to my face :+1:

I used spiral dots on mine. They seemed to fill out the bass without changing the SQ. Anything but foams

The stock Campfire ones are not bad. I slightly prefer Spiral Dots, but I also got these for my Andro Golds, and they work great:

I mixed and matched black-red and black-blue for the Andro Golds. For OG I might go all-black for left and black-green for right.

Ah okay! I think you’ll be smiling for the next week before and after the new tip order! They’re a special pair, for sure

Well, well, well what a totally mesmerising set can’t really add to all the numerous reviews and comments above…

Ok just my 2 pence worth yep the treble is stellar, like nothing i’ve heard on an IEM, it has space, it’s extended and shimmering, absolutely stunning…Mids are a tad laid back but just a tad so vocals still have their own space and aren’t too receded, bass is fast, accurate and textured but could dig deeper?..I find the timbre to be pretty natural and unforced, instruments seem to do what they do and sound like they should. Sound stage is ok…but imagining is as well up there.

Any negatives?..yep for me that memory wire in the cable is a pain and yes I tried a couple of others I had, but maybe as one of our members stated the set has such low impedance that any cable can fuck with the sound…yeah it really really does?? my FiiO FH7 cable did them no favours at all…so i’m on a look out for a pure silver 3.5mm mmcx cable lol…so all in all the Best $780 i’ve spent so far on my IEM journey :beers:

If you are good with a scalpel that can be fixed lol

Can you get the end that’s in the mmcx plug moulding out it looks hooked over?

So I haven’t done this with the Andros, but I just cut the shrink off and then took wire cutters and snipped the memory wire at the mmcx molding as best as I could. Although I can’t recommend this because if you mess up you might have a broken cable on your hands

It’s not heat shrink it’s part of the solid plug all be see-through.

Or you could just PM me and I can make you a cable :joy:
