🔷 Dan Clark Audio Aeon 2 (MrSpeakers)

Better Mon than me

I really like how the reverb in certain songs sounds with these. Black Sabbath, Paranoid as an example.

I would say imaging may be the weakness of this headphone. Not bad but imo there’s good imaging at left, center, and right. It lacks at 45 degree angle (left and right centers). But overall very good.

@M0N I’m looking for a closed back with a different sound signature than the Elex. I like how the Aeon 2 is portable and I’ll find one eventually much cheaper in the used market. Do you think I should go with something else like the LCD 2 closed instead?

Personally I prefer the aeon 2 c over the lcd 2 c, I think the lcd has some issues with it’s signature being wonky. I think the lcd x closed is a better headphone for closed vs the lcd 2 closed. I would look into the campfire Cascade if you want some real closed fun, also very good for portable too, easy rec (would be my choice over the closed lcd IMO).I think the closed zmf are something to look into, but I don’t have as much experience with them as other headphones yet. Perhaps you could find a used MDR-Z1R but that’s a somewhat hit or miss headphone.

The Campfire Cascade is an interesting suggestion. I was also thinking about the NightOwl Carbon closed back. Not sure if it’ll be a huge leap from my sv006 though.

I would personally say the Cascade is definitely a jump from the sivga and the nightowls

I agree, go for the Cascades. They are definitely a worthy investment, plus Campfire Audio is really good with customer service. They were a really good successor to my PM-3s.

Well I think I’m going to do it. Gf gave the okay. It’s so hard picking between the two. I emailed dan Clark audio and they were like “well with the open, people can hear what you are listening to and the closed blocks that.” I’m thinking seriously? Lol. I know that obviously. It’s tough because everyone is reviewing the closed for the “portability” factor so there’s very few open reviews. The portability is nice but I don’t really need closed for home.

This comparison has me thinking I want the open

Any one hear buy the open?

IMO dan does better closed backs from my experience, I have only briefly heard the open and it sounded really close to the closed admittedly (but imo I don’t have enough time with the open)

Yeah that’s true. That review is saying that the sound is more spacious with better placement. And that comparing them the closed sound more flat. But it’s like the only comparison I can find ha.

I don’t wanna make the wrong choice but I’m leaning towards the open. Guess I’ll be a test dummy.

Oh well I did it. Went for the opens . Came out to 760 for them with the discount. Same price as the ether cx on drop and these sound like they’re better

I would agree, I would take an aeon 2 over any ether c imo

Im I excited. Already got an email confirmation. Still need to get a tube amp for my senns and Aeolus lol. But I always find it hard to prioritize it over new headphones haha. I’ll let y’all no how the opens are seeing as it seems no one is going for those haha.

Lets goooo, curious to hear your thoughts :+1: :+1::+1:

I’ll let you know for sure. I wish I could get the closed to compare lol. I did enter the giveaway on headphones.com that gets picked on the 31st. Maybe I’ll be lucky for the first time ever on a giveaway haha.

I own the Drop Ether CX, and while I like them, the Aeon 2’s are much better. I only heard the closed version myself, so I’m also curious what you think of the open but I think you made the right call. I will say that if the CX sounded as good as they felt to wear, they’d be the only headphones I’d need. The guy knows how to make a headphone light and comfortable about as well as anyone out there
