I looked it up to see what the specs are and have never seen such a dearth of information for such an expensive product. It’s not even featured on their own website. And tbh they look like a grade schooler’s arts and crafts project :melting_face:

Here’s how it works:

  • Diaphragm: This is a thin film with embedded electrical conductors.
  • Magnetic field: A stationary field generated by permanent magnets.
  • Motion: When the current from the audio signal flows through the conductors, it interacts with the magnetic field and creates a force that causes the diaphragm to move.

The movement of the diaphragm creates sound waves that we perceive as sound.


What sets it apart from other drivers?

Magnetostatic drivers, which are a variation of planar magnetic drivers, offer unique advantages, such as:

  • Fast response: The diaphragm is extremely light and moves quickly, resulting in more accurate and detailed sound.
  • Low distortion: The diaphragm movement is very linear, which minimizes distortion and provides a clean and faithful sound.
  • Wide frequency range: They can reproduce a wide range of frequencies, from low bass to high treble.

While they have advantages, magnetostatic drivers typically require more power than other driver types, such as dynamic drivers, which may be a disadvantage for some users.
The Lorentz force is the force that acts on an electric charge moving in a magnetic field. It is one of the fundamental concepts in electromagnetism and is described by the formula:

Where:

  • F is the Lorentz force (vector)
  • q is the magnitude of the electric charge (scalar)
  • v is the velocity of the charge (vector)
  • B is the magnetic field strength (vector)

The “$\times$” sign denotes a vector product. The direction of the Lorentz force is always perpendicular to both the direction of the charge’s velocity and the direction of the magnetic field. Its magnitude is calculated by the formula:

Where $\alpha$ is the angle between the velocity vector v and the magnetic field strength vector B.

Important characteristics of the Lorentz force:

  • It does not do work. Since the force is always perpendicular to the direction of motion, it only changes the direction of the velocity, but not its magnitude. This means that the kinetic energy of the charge remains constant.
  • It is the cause of the motion of charged particles in a magnetic field. For example, the Lorentz force is the basis of the operation of mass spectrometers, particle accelerators (such as cyclotrons), and electric motors.
  • Its direction is determined by the left-hand rule. If the left hand is placed so that the magnetic field lines enter the palm, and the outstretched fingers point in the direction of motion of the positive charge, then the thumb will indicate the direction of the Lorentz force.
