My biggest gripe with grados is just the non-detachable cables. Even as you go for the higher end models, the cables are still permanently fixed. And I really hate modding unless I pay someone to do it, but that’s just me.
Wow, you’re really brave!
I sold the SR325 mainly because of the lack of separation and it just fell flat when songs got busy compared to other headphones I listened to. I also found that I always leaned to towards warmer tubes (on a hybrid that is) so the RS2 might be something I like.
Do all the Grado’s use the same pads? I hate those cheap foam pads they have lol
I mean l liked the 500e a fair bit, so I might as well try the 2000e, I feel like I have some amps they would sound pretty good on, I have a sr225e that I don’t like, so I might as well actually try a grado in my home
No, the higher up you go you start getting into the L Cushion pads, then the totl the G cushion large bowls.
If you have the opportunity, test it at a dealer beforehand.
Maybe my taste is different from that of others, but at least i‘m not alone.
The DT880 aren’t detachable either… ugh. I just learn to live with them and use Velcro strap. I think the beyerdynamic is even worst though, I can use that cable as a jump rope, where the Grado cable is portable length
Another thing I will add is that I have tried the beautiful audio Merino wool pads and they definitely warm up the grado sound and are much more comfortable. But, they are expensive and ship from New Zealand.
In some form or fasion. They have 3 styles. FWIW, they break in with use after a few days
Doing a detachable cable mod on Beyers is pretty easy if you are handy with a dremel. But making grados detachable is much more difficult due to cup size, material, etc.
I’m pretty mechanical inclined, the Grado seemed pretty easy. I’m just lazy…lol
Take off the black cap from the gimbal.
Slid the ear cup off
Take of foam pad
Heat the outside carefully with hair dryer or lighter and seperate.
Everything else is the same from there. Really
Yup for those professional mixing / mastering sessions when you don’t get to leave the studio.
But the higher end Beyers give you detachable cables do they not? I can tolerate that the dt880 at its current price point is non-detachable still since it’s still less than $200.
It’s moreso that you can reach over and access your other equipment while still being plugged in lol.
Yep, I agree the higher end models should have seperate cables, but I’m thinking more about the $99 SR80e because that’s what I have…
So you have a valid point for sure. I want the $750 whites and they have the same cable as the $99 models
I can’t comprehend how grado can’t figure out how to make a detachable cable but just released a wireless model, they kinda skipped a step there
I understand why they are that long…lol but I like the focal approach, include one short portable cable and a coiled mile long cable.
I guess that’s where the replaceable cable and premium prices come in
LMBO never thought about it like that
I’m not advocating for the attached cable here lol, they could easily change it, just noting what it would be used for
Well, that was a very civil post.
I can’t see why you would even bother with theT5p’s since you don’t like your “ears being treble raped”. I find the second gens take some planning.
There is no place within hundreds of miles for me to try out headphones. The local Grado dealer tops out at the PS500e’s which I found boring. The PS and GS series are supposed to be incredible, if you like the Grado sound.
I have been thinking about the GS3000e’s, but they are a Lot of money in Canada.
