I believe that misconception comes from people not knowing what they are doing with EQ. Specifically they use regular EQ instead of PEQ and it often does things you dont want it to do, such as the wrong hz or q value (which you cant change with regular eq) and also not setting a negative preamp to prevent clipping. With all of that taken care of and I honestly dont think there is a big downside to it. Of course dampening the nozzle to achieve the same upper-mid/treble reduction will likely be “different” as the “speed” should be reduced. But not “worse”.
Absolutely makes sense! You’ve broken it down really well – impedance adapters aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution, and their impact can vary significantly depending on the driver and impedance curve. It’s all about how that extra resistance interacts with the frequency response. Love the analogy with the glass and teaspoon – definitely helps clarify how small changes can affect the sound in different ways. It’s a great reminder that impedance adapters can be a bit more nuanced than people often think!
I want to add that I would not be there without Qudelix5K.
There are more devices with EQ now but None of them makes it so easy to play arround and find out.
For example Hiby PEQ is nice but every band is on a different page which makes you loose the overview
Same is true for the FiiO PEQ plus it is lagging
Both of them are funtional and i appreciate having them but for testing and ease of use nothing comes even close to the Q5K
For me that was one of the best Investments in the hobby
Well, the left one, the one I copied I am pretty sure it shows impedance in function of frequency of the signal Z = f(f) and this is what I wanted to present. I did not copy the right one with phase shift on purpose
Curious about the Qudelix5K especially for Android users. Don’t you have to use an app? If so does it interfere with media players like neutron? Or UAPP?
Yes you use it with an app which works flawlessly
You only use the app for EQing not for playback so you can use it with any player you want
Appreciate the info!! I was hesitant because I read a while ago that with some players that have their own peq or use the dac connected to the phone it can cause issues.
A lot of Android users have to have specific players because I guess Android has issues with high res playback.
Not sure but have not gone down that rabbit hole.
So. Much. To. Catch. Up. On.
Sheesh, heh, between being sick and getting a bunch of new IEMs in at the same time I’ve been slammed and time is not on my side!
Next up on the review block;
Aful P5+2
Aful Cantor
HBB Deuce
Then later down the road once I get them;
LetShuoer C12 + Mystic 8
AND CanJam 2025 impressions… it’s going to be a busy month!
The first two are from one of my tour groups I’m part of and the Deuce is just for fun because I think that IEM is pretty dope. I’m really digging them at the moment. I think they’ve really settled in for me and I’m completely sold on them.
Too bad about the release.
Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well! I wish I had more to share on this thread, I hate seeing it stagnant but I’d rather share quality over quantity
Cheers
Enjoy Canjam man. Wish i could go to one but no canjam in Germany lol. Nearest is London
Come to London
Looking forward to these! Enjoy the CanJam!
CanJam probably not in the cards for me this year, unfortunately. Unexpected expenses and too much going on that weekend.
Have fun, Dom!
DAMN.
I was really hoping to see you there, Paul.
Next year for sure, sir
flight ticket prolly will be expensive + need to apply for visa too
Aful P5+2 review is done (written part), so now I’m starting to get well acquainted to these stunners;
I have a long trip down to Rhode Island today for work so I’ll have a few hours to listen and take some notes down. So far my impressions are definitely pretty positive, they’re great IEMs. No doubt about it.
I’m still trying to make it happen this year, my man. We shall see.
I’d be hyped if it happened, brother
I finally finished my review of the Cantor, which is now up!
Any input or even just stopping by to check it out would mean a lot! I Stayed up late last night tightening up the photos and proofreading the written part on this one.
I also tried to do things a little differently with this one - I took a book out of @Leonarfd 's book by including album covers and whatnot. I hope you don’t mind, brother. I love that aspect of your reviews and here’s my interpretation of it. I also made a YouTube playlist of my test tracks to hopefully encourage everyone to listen along.
Thanks for stopping by if you choose to!
