Dom Q’s spot - IEMs and Photography

oh ok that sounds like a big nope then.

Specifically its the corners im afraid of.

Been close to bumping into desks there lol.

hmm, I feel like in those scenarios, taking my phone out would be faster.

Does that strap thing get in the way when you are taking the pics though? its dangling below the camera I assume.

(you mean this area right?)

Experienced photogs don’t use any of that stuff. It’s really not needed. A proper lens hood for sun glare, yes, but not needed at all for indoors. Placing another piece of glass that is flat and cheap in comparison to the highly engineered main objective is silly in so many ways.

Unless you’re in very risky situations like dust storms (and for this or rain you need a weather sealed body and lens) I would keep it simple and avoid at that jazz.

Even rather significant scratches simply don’t matter as the focal point is far beyond them…best to not clean lens unless contaminated with a liquid. Doing so usually causes damage instead of ‘cleaning’ it

aaa maybe im paranoid then. Im the type that uses screen protector and cases for all my phones after all. Speaking of screen protectors, I did order some for the screen on the Camera.

I assume they are at least worth to have?

Or a cheap step-up ring if it’s just the front thread you’re worried about … it all depends.
If you need the very last bit of image quality (studio, landscapes, architecture, low light, …) I wouldn’t use a protective filter but out and about I still welcome the extra protection for the front element (had my share of messed up glass over the years.) YMMV.

In my humble opinion, buying a nice UV filter won’t affect your image quality to the point where most would notice. You don’t have to spend a fortune, but something a little nicer than the ones they sell off the shelf at Best Buy will do the trick. Especially if you wanted the peace of mind. Again, I don’t use any of those things my self, just a shoulder strap from my Nikon and a wrist strap for my Fuji Incase I need a free hand.

But for someone like Riku, having that peace of mind is more valuable than your images taking a -2% hit on sharpness.

I’m actually expecting you to have a full camera cage very soon knowing your paranoia :joy: (to be fair I actually use one a lot (more for video) so I shouldn’t laugh)

you got me lol. I already ordered a bag and a shoulder strap since the official sony strap is putting all the damn weight on my neck and is uncomfortable af.

I always wait for your impression of canjam, your write up & photos are always top notch. I’ve been eyeing Giant & Valhalla. Mystic8 is good too, but if I get Valhalla no need for other sets.

I don’t like DC-Elite as well. I had that dongle for 7 days(thanks to the friends) and still didn’t like it. Other thing is Mojo2 is cheaper than DC-Elite in our country🤯. I currently have btr17, onyx Xl1, dawn pro & mojo2 as portable source. Until one of em dies I’m not buying another.

I heard that Project meta is gonna be limited quantity. If it’s turns out to be true I’ll definitely get one.

Punch is odd. I think something went very wrong. Since I love mine, Origin too. Origin & Arcadia is my best purchase last yr.

Thanks so much, brother.

Giant is great if you wanted a warm leaning IEM with pretty dang good techs to go with it. I would say it’s a direct upgrade to the Aful Explorer if you’ve heard those before. The Valhalla is truly on another level…

That’s crazy that the Mojo is cheaper than the DC Elite!!! Wow…

And yeah, Project Meta looks to be limited to a first run of only 500 units. I think they’re worth the money for sure. I may end up getting a pair my self.

HA! The Punch does have some strange tonality to it in the upper-mids, I agree… the Sub bass is not as textured as I was expecting either. It’s more of a blob of bass rather than a cleaner presentation. It’s a shame because I was hoping it could be the cheaper replacement to the Titans. There’s really no comparison between the two.

right now it seems both are on similar pricing. but I clearly remember DC-elite selling for 42k($482, based on current exchange rate)

I do think that unit specificly has something Wrong with it. or could be the source. my unit sounds pretty good. Sub bass is well textured. upper mids Sounded normal. obviously studiio4, isa sounds better. @Go-Kart What do you think?
Giant is defintly on my Wishlist. Will get it when its available

Wow, that’s insane. The Chord is about $200 more than the DCE here in the states. I’ve never heard the Chord so, I can’t speak on if it’s worth the premium.

Hmm, yeah that’s interesting to hear. I’m sure if I had some more time with them, at home and on my desktop set up, I could probably fine tune their sound with different sources and tips, but with the limited set up and time over at CanJam, it was just based on super initial listening.

I am really sensitive to upper mids timbre and tonality though so I could just be an outlier in that sense.

After Isa & twlight i’ve become a timbre Ho

the Monarch 2s did that to me as well…

that upper mids :ok_hand:

My pair is a bit… unique.

That’s the graph to my pair. It has more filled in mid bass/lower mids, more sub bass and less pinna. It’s genuinely one of the best IEMs I’ve ever heard, period.

That looks flat, similar to oracle mk1… sick AF. I can see why you love mk2 & titans
vs titan

VS Punch

vs Isa & twilight

Yup. My pair of Monarchs sound warm and clean with a distinct Sub bass rumble and actually unreal timbre and resolution for female vocals and life-like treble. It is such a mature tuning. Like I said, even to this day, it’s one of the best IEMs I’ve ever heard.

Idk what happened to Jay’s measurements on the Titans… To my ear, the Titans have a lot more sub bass compared to the Punch, but on his graph it’s the opposite. QC Strikes again! But I don’t know that could be, Symphonium is usually bullet proof when it comes to their QC.
