Dom Q’s spot - IEMs and Photography

The crimson I heard sounded very reserved in treble, extremly detailed, but no odd sharpness. Its just the graphs lying again. I need to try titans again

Interesting… the Crimson to my ears is on the brighter side for sure but it was never really harsh to me. I
Think it comes down to the balance in the higher frequencies. It doesn’t have any crazy spikes so nothing really stands out. Plus, the bass level I think is near perfect. But, I can always use more bass lol

Sorry, dude, I haven’t spent any critical listening time with Punch, yet. I’ve just had it on while I work and have noticed some things. This weekend though.

@domq422, I can speak to a few Chord products, though. Mojo 2 is a brilliant unit but a used Mojo 1 is the buy for me. Great synergy with everything I put on it. Versatile, detailed, excellent staging, imaging and transient response. I feel like the original Mojo is a better buy for the money as it’s 95 % of the performance of the 2, and I prefer the tonality; no EQ, but that ain’t a deal breaker for me. I appreciated the cross-fade on Mojo 2, but purely basing it on sound quality, I’d take a Mojo 1 as they go for £100ish over here. Gotta spend triple that to get even a used Mojo 2. Both great units though. Both box with serious DAPs.

I’ve had my eyes on the OG Mojo more than once… There are a few deal breakers for me, unfortunately. The lack of a balanced output and a Micro USB (?!) input in just insane to me. I know it’s an older device, but still.

I know balanced isn’t everything and it may not even do anything to the sound, but all of my cables are now 4.4 and it’s become just a convenience thing at this point. The micro USB connection can be worked around I assume. I just haven’t looked into it.

I get it. I have a few cables, multiples of either 4.4 or 3.5SE, but I guarantee, it’s always going to be the wrong cable on the IEM for the device I want to use…

I like the switchable terminations on the C12 cable, but that’s only slightly less of an inconvenience.

I really shouldn’t moan though. I do 99 % of my music listening at my desk and all of my gear is in arm’s reach. If I listened to music on the go, I’d probably feel differently. My Mojo has been running duty as my DAC/head amp/pre amp on my gaming PC for over a year now so the micro USB thing has yet to bother me, but it is the weakest of the USB connections ain’t it…

Makes sense. I do probably 80% of my listening on the go or with my dongles so I’m seldom at my desk these days, unfortunately. That means devices like the mojo are just a little too big for me to lug around. The BTR17, regardless of the sonic downgrades from the Mojo, is just miles more convenient.

If I wanted to plug my phone into the Mojo, or my computer for that matter, I’m sure they have some kind of USB-C to Micro USB cable or adapter, right? And dude, yes, Micro USB is so bad when it comes to strength lol I can’t tell you how many cables I’ve gone through for my PS3/4 controllers…

@domq422 mojo2 has usb-C. And you’re right micro usb is shit. Especially if you move around. Btr17 is far better than that. Mojo2 & mojo1 makes sense if you’re listening while sitting down or on a dest. Mojo2 is kinda great as a dac.

You can run a ddhifi 4.4 adapter for mojo2 & get a 4.4 to 2 3-pin XLR cable and get pseudo balanced connection.

Edit @domq422 does the Symphonium Giant has a DD like titan?

Absolutely bro. Mojo definitely has some special sauce sound to it

Unfortunately the Mojo 1 has serious battery issues (which are overpriced to get replaced) - particularly in that there is no real battery bypass (and issues if you take out the battery and mod to just run on PS due to the initial design)

IIRC this was rectified on the 2nd model - that is one of the reasons that you can pick a 1st Gen up so cheap.

You don’t want to get the phone too close as the Mojo series has a lot of complaints about interference and USB-C input issues - so not really great for portable.
As @Go-Kart was saying - probably better as a desktop DAC - but then it has pricing pressures from cheaper better measuring devices that have balanced connections and more power so YMMV.

Indeed. My rec is as a desktop unit. I’d say the Chord special sauce is worth paying for, but that is very much a preference thing.

portability can be a game-changer. Even if the BTR17 isn’t on the same level as the Mojo, having something compact and easy to use on the go is sooo helpful. At the end of the day, the best gear is the one that fits your lifestyle

Agreed, I still use my old BTR5, and the KA17 is another great dongle that is hard to top for the money. The KA11 is a great pick for folks on a budget.

When I was still work from home, I used my desktop amp more, but I rarely have the time for it now.

Oh damn, this is excellent info. I’m not the most handy person out there and while I’m sure I could figure out how to do that mod, I am totally not interested in doing all that. I barely have to listen to music as it is, never mind opening stuff up for mods lol

I had the same issue with a few dongles from back in the day, nothing I did would help that weird interference sound from coming through. I ended up being so annoyed with those that I gave them away to family members. That is most definitely a deal breaker for me but I don’t really consider the Chords a portable solution anyways so it’s a useless point I made, if I’m honest…

I agree 100%. Not to mention all of the extra features you get on top…

Ain’t that the truth, brother…

@domq422 what focal length do you use for your godly iem pics?

I use 35mm on a full frame camera, brother

oh cool, thats around 24mm on APSC then afaik. Which is the focal length I may buy next.

Yes sir, you are 100% correct. Just 1.5x crop factor and boom, you have your focal length equivalent

for me the most versatile focal length on FF…if i could only have one lens for everything this would be it
Preferably one with a high magnification for close up shots, i believe Tamron has one with 1:2 but i already have one from Sony

Yeah, I think thats the range I would like myself if I just had a single prime lens. The 20-30mm (apsc) range seems the best for me.
