Dom Q’s spot - IEMs and Photography

Just got the Juzear Harriers in for review. The box is quite nice. It has a weird 3-D effect to it. Cool stuff.

I’ve heard they’re boring as hell in the treble. I’ll post some impressions up sometime tomorrow :pinched_fingers:

Just a quick listen before shower and bed - while the treble is nothing special, I think these are fine.

Very surprisingly, the bass is nicely done. It’s punchy and it’s decently thick down there… but the mids are front and center, mostly instruments though. Female vocals are a touch recessed to my ears. Which is weird.

More listening to be done tomorrow but I doubt I’ll find anything new that hasn’t already been talked about.

Edit: the sub bass is absolutely trash… ho-LEE :grimacing:

You can even see the 3d effect in the pics, wild.

Happy New Year everyone!

2025 was a year that I focused mostly on DAC/Amps and starting my collection of local files. I took a pretty big 6 month hiatus from the hobby in the middle of the year so I missed a good amount, but it was nice to come back refreshed. Music was the biggest focus for me this year and I’m glad for it. My goal for next year will be starting a physical media collection, CDs mostly and I cannot wait.

This is some of my favorite music that I listened to and discovered from 2025;

Very much a newer discovery for me - This smooth, warm and bassy album captured my heart just a week ago and I haven’t been able to put it down since. Great production from this team. The rest of their work is great too. Female vocalist with a jazz-like instrumental behind them.

Almost singer/songwriter in nature with Western themed guitars - Red Dead Redemption 2 was my biggest obsession outside of the music world and it greatly influenced my music taste as well. The intro with those droning guitars reminds me of an Outlaw’s journey into the West.

More dreamy and lo-fi production with this one. Smooth and atmospheric in it’s presentation.

A fast paced and layered production, coupled with a female vocalist and a catchy chorus had this song buzzing in my ears for weeks when I first heard it. All those little nuances in this particular song genuinely pulls me in. Seems like every bar has another musical element to add to the track.

I’m not quite sure when I exactly discovered Sweet Pill - It might of been last year, 2024, but all I know is that they dominated my streaming this year being in my top 5 artists. Genuinely top notch production and mastering. The instrument seperation and incisiveness in all of the elements of the tracks they produce is addicting to say the least. They’re releasing a new album soon and I cannot wait.

If a modern song could embody what it would be like to be riding your mare into the unknown West, this one comes close.

Speaking of modern tunes embodying the life of an Outlaw in the days of the Wild West - This entire epic track quite literally puts me in the dirty boots of someone on the run from the law. I cannot thing of another word to describe this track besides, epic. The passage around 2:58 is something to behold. I’m not quite sure why, but it does something to me.

Another addition to my spacey and dreamy production list. A ear worm this one was for me for a little while. Listening to it again now and I’m reminded why. Fairly simple in it’s execution, but god damn is it good stuff.

Men I Trust needs no introduction. I’ve been a fan of theirs for years and 2025 was a big year for them. They released 3 seperate LPs - 1 Live album and 2 studio. Somehow, someway, they continue to top themselves with their same formula. Incredibly catchy music with a nostalgic infusion. These two are my favorites from the 3 albums.

I discovered Fred’s music back in September after giving it another chance randomly one day and I haven’t looked back. After reading into his production philosophy for his first few albums, watching countless live performances and jamming out to his slow trickle of tracks from his newest album, I am hooked. USB is his last release and god damn, boys, it’s bangers front to back. It’s no wonder how he became my top artist from 2025 with 3,000+ minutes played in just a few short months.

I discovered Goon about 2 years ago and they became my favorite band rather quickly. Everything about the way Kenny (Lead singer, writer for the band) constructs their music calls to me in a way I cannot describe. For their release of Dream 3, they went on a promotional tour and I got to see them live, along side another band called Horsepower which has so much potential. I cannot wait to see what they create as well. But Goon’s sound completely envelopes me with impossibly layered production, nonsensical lyrics and other-worldly production. Without a doubt my top album of 2025

That was a lot of fun. I hope everyone’s 2026 is prosperous, filled with lovely music and genuine happiness!

I’ll probably write something a little bit longer over on Head-Fi at some point this week, but just in case anyone was wondering, the Harrier is just not my cup of tea. I think they’re quite beautiful and I understand the tuning philosophy behind them, but I think the dulling of the treble went a little too hard. The upper mids also have some strange timbre I can pick up on certain songs. The included accessories are great, especially the cable. It’s very nice. But the sound just didn’t work for me. Oh well… A valiant first effort by Mr. Mark Ryan.

With all that being said, I can definitely understand who these would be for.

Have you heard the Hidizs MK12 Turris or the DucBloke collab? I have the same problem with the rolled off treble on the x DucBloke. (Partially caused by the warmth/elevated bass to mids also).

Edit: I know DucBloke ment for it to be EQ’ed, but I am to lazy for that😅

I haven’t heard either, but I just kinda assumed that’d be the case looking at the graph. It makes sense, honestly, he is known as the EQ king in the hobby. That’s his thing for sure. Would it not make sense to tune treble to be relatively flat but not dulled if EQ is the end goal, though? I could be wrong.

Yeah, the ducblok mk12 looks really warm

Lmao oh come on, maybe it isn’t that bad.

To be 1,000% fair, I didn’t like the Monarch MK IV either, so you might be onto something here

With mud switch deactivated i really liked the tuning but the overall presentation felt too closed in for my preference and for that price segment and I overall prefered Ziigaat Horizon which is wild when looking at the price difference

Interesting, a ton of people have said the same thing. I just don’t like the sound in either config. I agree, they sound closed in, almost box-like. And the bass to my ears is even worse than the Monarch MK2, which I didn’t think was possible in such an expensive IEM.

DucBloke uses a 320Ti that must be quite bass shy as he always pumps up below 150hz about 4-5db more than my ears need with my sources.

Makes mud!

Or maybe he just likes that boom boom in the low end, I have the same problem lol

Perhaps but a lean source would also skew his perception and thus EQ. Just like back in the day with the guy on the soundboard mixer at a live show cranking the treble because he was nearly deaf and/or drunk

I like what he does from the bass region up. I just dial out a bit of his bass boost in squig before exporting the file.

Valid point. I am, too, a DAC/Amp believer, so I get your point. I don’t mess with EQ, and to be quite honest, I don’t mess with Duc either, but I see his value within the community.

I use PEQ tuning like spice. Sometimes I like a lot and other times I like just a little or none. Wavelet is my tool of choice for playback on Android.

Simple controls. Effective changes.
