Can you try using Blutack instead of the tape? I felt BluTack was a lot better than tape.
Alternatively,
I tried EQ’ing it similar to the tuning on Dusk DSP and it was a lot better.

That depends if the tape used is one of those porous or weak adhesive → not fully sealed.
I tried a piece of electric tape. Maybe Blutack works better. It was just a test out of curiosity but overall I’m happy with the sound at this price point.
I decided to remove the blue masking tape modification and to instead use parametric EQ to tame the bass and the sub bass.
What software are you using ?
I use Equalizer APO along with the Peace GUI on my PC.
Although the air coming out of the vents is not powerful enough to flex the tape but using a harder material would make sure that no air escapes.
Yea, it’s definitely a good buy for those who want more bass but with cleaner vocals
I felt that covering the vent made a meaningful difference in SQ compared to EQing it.
The tape mod tamed the bass for me, yet I also noticed a slight deadening effect for the base texture. So I switched to EQ. I had to extend the parametric EQ to reach below 20 Hz in order to achieve the perfect amount of my desired overall rolloff. I am happier now that I am using EQ to tame the bass. Since I am using EQ to tame the bass, I also decided to decrease the amount and width of the dip at 6 kHz in order to increase some details while still preventing the “s” and “sh” sounds in female vocals from becoming sibilant, and while still keeping the DaVinci’s very engaging yet non-fatiguing overall sound signature. I am really enjoying the DaVinci now that I have done several iterations to tweak my parametric EQ settings.
I want to mention the Juzear Butterfly 61T for those who can not afford the DaVinci…
Today I watched a couple of videos for the Juzear Butterfly 61T and looked at its frequency response graphs on squiglink versus the DaVinci. Here are squiglink graphs for the 61T and the DaVinci by three different reviewers:
The 61T seems to be a much more affordable version of the DaVinci’s tuning yet not with quite the same level of performance. The 61T might be a very nice IEM for those who want the DaVinci’s tuning yet at a more affordable price. I looked at photos of the 61T and its cable. I thought that the shells looked like something which Myer-Audio might produce. The dead giveaway is the cable. The cable is the exact same cable which comes with the Myer-Audio CKLVX CK-D41 which I have.
The DAVINCI and the 61t dont have the same tuning at all. The DAVINCI is the bassier of the two and the MB does bleed into to mids making male vocals lush and warm , the 61t is not like that neutralish and has better technical details and layering.
The two sounds very different.
To my ears.
Don’t have the same tuning at all? Your own graphs indicate that these two IEMs have fairly similar overall tuning.
Graphs give you a idea of what general characteristics you could possibly expect not how it sounds.
I always say use you ears not your eyes when listening to gear.
Soo true. The graph only goves you the indication of the tuning.
Graphs are only trustable to me in the range of 400-4/5Khz range. Even with 5128s. Because the interdependence are so much , to deduce the actual sound
i might have to trying eq my davinci to dusk dsp. i will update my experience after doing that
next thing i want from dunu is, cheaper version of sa6 ultra tuning with dd driver. please do it dunu.
Dunu´s hybrid lineup is their DK series.
Cheapest was the DK2001 (300 usd iirc).
These latest releases DaVinci, Super Mix 4 and Butterfly 61t have me in a holding pattern waiting for the remainder of the years offerings. The downward trend in pricing for sound quality is impressive.
Pula PA02 and Canpur Joyful 1&1 get the most ear time as of late.
I experimented with the same approach, using the tape mod with Blu-Tack. However, I noticed it impacted the mid-bass texture and quality, and I’m also concerned about the driver’s safety. Given the cost of the DaVinci, it’s not something I want to risk LOL. With that much bass, the driver needs to move freely. While EQ is a safer option, I prefer not to use it. Instead, I enjoy the DaVinci as it is for certain music genres, movies, and videos.
