Earbuds Discussion Thread

Hahaha I am pretty sure they were discussing the SQ of different brands of SD cards the other day on the Watercooler… :man_facepalming::man_facepalming::man_facepalming: so an audiophile service to rate a power grid may not be unimaginable

It depends on the quality of the shell as well. Most clear mx500 shells that you can get on aliexpress seriously sucks in quality compared to the regular (black) ones, they are less dense and feel “cheaper”.
Of course, resonance is gonna differ from shell material to another but “better” isnt always the denser/higher quality one, as you might want that type of resonance with the tuning you are going for.

Its more grey than black/white.

I’m sure if the shell color of your IEMs is different it will give a difference in FR big enough that you can order 100 IEMs/buds of different color but of the same model.
Sometimes I really enjoy human stupidity! :joy:

In anticipation of picking up a Totem next week I am spending some time with my other TGXear buds.

Today been relistening to Alpha - whilst I understand it is a specialist bud with some open flaws (power whore, subbass anyone? somewhat intimate stage and a lack ot treble extension (which however is fitting for it’s intended reproduction) in comparison to it’s contemporaries - it has (to my ears atleast) exceptional timbral accuracy, instrument separation & spacial positioning - perhaps even the best I have heard in a bud so far - saxophone and string section replay is really something. A combination of stylistic sonic artifact texture and presentation of surface noises - make me question if I have previously even been paying attention when listening to my test tracks. If just listening to acoustic instrumental replay the mids here are more tonally correct but as soon as I switch to anything electronic or vocal dominated it falls slightly behind Ripples, Tantalus & Serratus.

It really is a complete beast for jazz & small ensembles/modern classical as long as you don’t mind lugging a desktop amp or DAP brick around. Shame it’s been discontinued but may save some neck muscles & falling overloaded pants carrying it in public like some sort of madman Japanese audiophile

Recently ordered the Sunniva, this will be Jim’s first fully custom drivers so there is a lot of hype surrounding them. From the early prototype impressions they seem to do everything the Serratus does but better, hoping the trebles are tamed vs those though. It does musicality better than any set he has made previously. Can’t wait to get them!

Those Freeflow Metal Faceplates look amazing! Really hoping the sub-bass are good with this pair, these will officially be my first TGXear buds so I am quite excited.

Does anyone know anything about these???

How easy is it to graph buds compared to IEM’s and are the readings in anyway comparable?

Much harder.

not at all, and really, they are useless…

Ok here’s a strange one…tell me if i’m tripping but i’ve had a problem with getting a good constant fit with Serratus, great when pushed in fully :gem: but they kinda slowly release losing bass :slightly_frowning_face:…tried many tweaks but then I tried to go over ear like an IEM and yes that works for my weird ears…I can move around and bass is :ok_hand:
May be worth a try if you have a similar issue :+1:

I have strange ears that make buds getting away. I have special thingies to help the fit, but maybe adding the over-ear technic could help too.
