Yes, he’s a doofus

Hey buddy @Valphonics or @ttorbic any news or up dates on Chang’s flathead?..

I cannot speak for Chang on that, but I can tell you he has been very busy with other projects. I am afraid the earbud will be slower, and isn’t a priority at the moment.

Who is Chang?

He’s Mr Nightjar Acoustics and he had a pair of his flathead prototypes #workstillinprogress at last years London CanJam, he also very kindly let me listen to his personal set of Cypherus Audio Black Dragon Susvaras. Super nice dude too…

Bud..

and Chang on the right…

Hi, I’m having trouble deciding between a used Ucotech ES-P2 at $175 USD or a new FiiO FF3S at $60 USD. Anyone have an opinion? Thanks.

Hmm I don’t think many people have had tried the ES-P2. Based on the P1 and P3 reviews, I’d imagine the P2 leans bright, whereas the FF3S will be warmer. Consider asking your question here:

It’s much more active than here! Or join the Flathead Sanctuary discord:

If you’re into a warm, relaxed sound with great comfort and modern features, I’d go with the FiiO FF3S, it’s lightweight build and a solid everyday pick.

If thats the case then my Rikubuds Gen 3 models will work.

OK, I am not an Earbud Lover / Flathead. Previously used NiceHCK EBX25Ti, and although it was good, if the seal is good and there is no outside noise. If any two of them get violated, the sound becomes a lot messier. ( The case is pretty nice, although not that pocketable )

Now, with Polar Night coming at half the price tag, AFUL did something quite interesting.

  1. The bass is surprisingly there, and it hits you at high volumes
  2. The midrange is very well tuned
  3. The treble is on the sweeter side
  4. Tech is not as good as the EBX25Ti, as well as the resolution ,but the coherency in the stage is nice
  5. Overall tuning of the IEM is very basic yet rare; it sounds sweet & full-sounding.

Now, there are some things that I would like to mention that didn’t impress me that much

  1. There is a bit of a safeness around the treble (6Khz-7Khz) that makes the bud sweet sounding, but also takes away from the up-front nature of the Details that I like
  2. The fit wasn’t a problem, but the notch is quite shallow, so it takes extra effort to put them into the ear canals. After fitting it in, they were pretty secure.
  3. I would’ve liked to see some extra equipment’s like Rubber Bands / hooks & more filters. Although it is understandable that they put all of their money on the buds.

There are three simple reasons why I was quite impressed by this Earbud. Firstly - Very good tuning choice, Secondly - The authority & command on the bass, Third - The looks, they are so pretty.
But, there are things that I would like to change too. Firstly, the nozzle height is for a better initial fit. Secondly, the MMCX connection is not something I love personally (Slippery to detach).

I have yet to try out different accessories and source rolling. All of the initial impressions are done with the Chord Mojo 2.

What is the best purchase I can make for classical music exclusively, under 15 euros?
The truth is, I’m a bit overwhelmed by the number of options available under 10 euros. Years ago, it was VE Monks Plus or Yincrow X6 hehe. The Yincrow seems to have undergone a silent revision because I bought them recently and they don’t sound anything like I remember.
The Monks Plus honestly don’t sound bad, and I have another pair called NICEHCK Traceless that aren’t bad either, but I’m worried that, considering how fast this market moves and the sheer number of things you can find under 10€, I might be missing out on a hidden gem I haven’t considered yet.

Hope you guys can guide me haha

Hello! Hmm that is a tough price bracket - I personally don’t have any experience with sets under 15€. I got the VE Monk Plus for free at some point but it was awful.

If you’re willing to stretch your budget, both Flathead Audio FH-01 and NiceHCK EBS2 Pro are good with instrumental music. They are around 35 USD on AliExpress

@astr0, what kind of classical music do you usually listen to? It’s such a broad category, as you know, and something like a solo piano piece is so different from a full symphony, with different challenges presented to your earbuds.

(And follow-up question, where do you stand on soldering your own?)

Thanks for your insight. I think you nailed it when you pointed out how broad classical music is and how different the experience can be between a solo piano piece and a full symphony. Personally, I tend to gravitate more toward symphonies and orchestral works; the richness and complexity of a full orchestra captivate me far more than the intimacy of solo pieces. I also really enjoy film scores for their immersive quality and their ability to transport you to different worlds.

As for soldering, I’ve never done it and have zero intention of ever picking up a soldering iron. I’d rather leave that kind of technical work to those who actually enjoy or are skilled at it.

Dont think there is anything in that budget thats new and notable over the ones u have. Maybe try the Qian39 if u havent though. Otherwise u could try doing some easy and reversible mods to the X6 (or any other one u got) by like taping the vents on the shell.

I can’t add anything to what ttorbic and riku said, other than to note that the X6 seems to be notorious for unit variance, i.e. buy three of the damned things and they’ll all sound a little different. That factor alone could account for the perceived “revision.”

Sounds like I’m actually kind of your polar opposite, listening almost exclusively to chamber music and solo piano. No matter what, it’s great to meet you here!
