Freaking fire, man!

Just another set of cans to add to my future purchase list. :smirk:

The Vali 3 has tamed my original SJY audio purchase!

Posted this on another forum in a thread titled “Most unique sounding headphone you’ve tried”.

For me it is a pair of headphones that I have had for a while that I originally relegated to the odd one off purchase. I recently dusted off my SJY Audio Hinode wave headphones that was very much a rough early design by the creator. When I originally purchased them they sounded like muddy bass cannons, and therefore I really didn’t reach for them.

Fast-forward to August 2024, my setup is completely different, and I have been trying my headphone collection on my recent Vali 3 purchase. Yesterday I finally decided to give the Hinode another try, several tracks in to my surprise the headphone sounded more airy, the bass was tighter, and vocals sound natural. It almost sounded like a cross between a ZMF Atrium Open and a Arya Stealth (granted both of which are still superior to the Hinode). These are comparisons I never thought I would make given my original experience with this headphone.

I have since purchased two other headphones from SJY Audio, and I will be buying a Horizon next year, but I find it funny that I might be reaching for his 2nd creation more often now.

A pad swap, and now for round two on the Mjolnir 3.

Holy crap, I had to sell my horizons since I needed some closed back headphones. I ended up buying the Dan Clark E3s… but now I see the Horizon closed are coming out! I wish I waited a bit longer… lol.

also got myself a E3, very enjoyable closed back

Definitely excited to check out these closed back versions.

Someone has my current Horizon but I’ll leave some impressions since I’ll be at CanJam where I think Jeffrey is bringing them (and maybe other things knowing him haha)

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the comparison between the two models. I can’t wait to try Horizon on my 2025 setup as well.

It’s been a long time since I came here.
If I do well next month, I think I will be able to purchase Horizon Closed.
By the way, what I want to say is this. When using the Horizon as a headphone amp, I found an amp that could raise the volume to my desired level. (Not a speaker amplifier!)
It is HIFIMAN’s EF600 amplifier. When the EF600 is at high gain and I put the knob at 3 o’Clock, I get the volume output I like.

Glad you found a solution in the headphone amp realm. I do not have the Horizon yet, but I do have 3 SJY headphones and they do have various results depending on amplification, DAC, and cable combinations (not to mention pads). My best results have been with my Mjolnir 3, and surprisingly my $150 Vali 3 (not as much headroom on the Vali 3 though). It will be interesting to find out which of my amps work best with Horizon when I pickup a pair next year.

Enjoy your new amp, and Happy Listening!

I think Jeffrey is bringing them to CanJam so I’m excited to hear them in person. Along with whatever else he’s working on :eyes:

Got the Final tuning for Horizon Closed,
It’s as close to the target as possible.

Now all of us who have tube amps will be considering which tubes to use to mess with that curve to tweak it to taste.

Anyone with a horizon wearing it with the pads angled?..as in leaning into the face and away from behind the ear? The bass … intensity and reverb…goes up substantially. A joy for some genres.

Will have to try that sometime soon. Someone still has my Horizon :joy:

Horizon Closed is nice. I’ll have more impressions later and a review in a week or two. But, there’s some good news for @JeffreySJY in the coming future!

Just curious if you have an update on your impressions or review! I’m very interested in these closed backs.
