i went with the q5s and enjoy it but its not as small and you’ll still need a otg

Are you considering the BTR5 or is a general question?

yes,so I would I need the otg cable for my iphone

what’s the most power hungry headphone you’ve tested it with and it be fine??

Zeos said on the Amazon review page that it got power for his balanced T60RPs…

I.e.: It will basically work with everything then.

Imo not really, trying it balanced on argons is fine but it’s not something I would want to listen to over something like an xd05 or a desktop amp. Personally I would say if you have argons you would be better off with an xd05 or something of the sort, it’s a more satisfactory experience (also they really aren’t that hard to drive anyway). Also tried he560v1 and that was a no go. Also not the best with stuff like the verum or aeon 2 closed. For most reasonable headphones you won’t have any issues on balanced, but there are some that it’s really not that satisfactory imo

for any curious about the power output on these i recently tried my nighthawks on the 3.5mm. To get to listenable levels i needed to max the volume which is apparently 60/60 and in a quiet environment it was fine but still on the lower end. I’d say with this and M0Ns input if your main use case is headphones I’d probably look at a different solution. But for IEMs it’s still killer.

I’m just kinda of the mindset if you want a small wireless device like this you are most likely using iems, and if you have the space for headphones you most likely also have space for a larger more powerful amp/dac

agreed which is 100% the reason I got one. I was just curious while i was doing things around the house how well it works with headphones. Especially with the zeos review kinda being like ā€œit can push anything!ā€, some might be considering this as an all-rounder device. And while it can be used that way it’s probably not the best for that.

Apparently the balanced out pushes like twice the power, though. So it could be ok with your nighthawks if possible.

certainly possible, I don’t have any balanced connectors for my headphones I was more inferring based on M0N’s statement that the more power hungry stuff like the t50 family still don’t perform the best on the balanced output. I’m sure it would be fine going balanced for something like the nighthawks or other easier to drive headphones, but that would be contingent on having a headphone wired for balanced.

You can drive more power hungry headphones with balanced (imo just use balanced all the time for anything because it preforms better), but if you plan on driving harder to drive headphones most of the time I would really suggest something more suited for that

the only thing making me unsure about buying this is no MQA support so if i join tidal to get better sound i wont get the best… its very exciting though

if only you could BUY one

I mean if you consider mqa to be better anyway (imo it’s worse than an actual lossless track)

i never tried it (my laptop cant do 24/48 or anything else)… and i just remember from a video from techmoan on MQA CD that the actual MQA version of the songs sounded louder and better mastered… plus its a good bonus since tidal would only cost 10 compared to 20 on my student discount

Adding another point in here. The battery live for driving non IEM’s is TERRIBLE. Blon B20, LCD X… kills the battery in no time. Oddly enough the battery life for driving the Koss kph30 isn’t too bad. Works amazing with my KZ ZS10 pro for battery life.

Another odd point I’ll make since nobody really talks about it, the voice quality on the mic is pretty good when you clip it to your shirt. I literally was on the phone off and on for 3 days straight with some health organizations and the mic never failed me.

also where can you actually buy a BTR5 since amazon has none and the chinese website has none either… this could be useful since i can use it as a laptop dac and then use it on my phone (the thing is my phone already has an amazing dac)… i just have to wonder if id actually enjoy having tidals MQA
