2 Week wait @ AMP3 all be the slightly miss leading titleā¦
Chances are slim that someone have both, but I have S8F and Iām committed to buy FD5 as soon as I find reputable seller in stock with fast shipping.
When I get it Iāll drop a comment.
wellā¦ here is just my guess (I DONT HAVE THE S8F!!):
FD5:
Timbre
Tonality
Soundstage
bass quality
Instrument/vocal naturality
S8F:
Details
Instrument separation
imaging
Based on their driver types and the vents on the FD5.
Exactly my thoughts. I might add
S8F:
Comfort
Fit
Isolation
FD5:
Packaging and accessories
Cable
yeah isolation should definitely be better on the S8F. But I personally dont like ventless iems because they arent comfortable to me, so I would guess that the FD5 is better in comfort for me.
Whatās the differenceā¦? A tiny hole vs no hole? Hereās what FD5 does to me, with that cable connector tube thatās like welded on. It feels fine for the first hour or 2, then starts bothering my left ear(right ear in pic) mildly. This is nothing like the Tape Pro, thank gob.
Iām finding the treble amount to be more than I like, with a lot of my music(no complaints in games yet; WOW can these pinpoint), with bass tips + large sound tube. No real sibilance or grating quality, just would prefer bass to be more dominant and treble tuned down a little.
No vents = pressure build up, feels like a suction cup lol. But trades that for isolation. Which makes ba iems that usually dont have vents better suited for musicians playing in a band where isolation is needed.
vents= pressure alleviation, can also affect tuning in a positive way like the FD5 with increased air and soundstage.
(driver flex will 100% happen if you dont have vents with iems with a dd)
Have you tried them with Foams to see if it smooths it out a little bit?
Only bass and balanced tips so far. Iām not sure what effect foams are supposed to have. I thought they may preserve treble more than the bass tips, if the bore hole is wider.
foams usually reduce the treble quantity, but it also makes the sound very different from the original tuning.
Silicone > foam
I view foams as the dark side of tips, easy to fit but not the right way.
Resolution suggested putting an oring on the tube to increase the length of the tip.
Instead, I tried some Spiral Dots I had laying around. They have a slightly longer bore that doesnāt allow it sit so deep with a good seal. I also size up since I donāt like something deep in my ear canal.
Spinfits are similar but I didnāt like what it did to the sound.
Rolling the iem forward so the edge is at the top also helps. The connector is parrallel to the ground.
I highly rec buying all the tips you can afford in all different sizes and try them all on all your IEMs to find what works best for that IEM and your ears and comfort. Itās extremely important. As Iāve said before. Your IEM is only as good as your seal is.
My Spiral Dots are 3rd row down, and first three compartments. All the different sizes.
I have some Comply foams, but I didnāt know about the ones with filtersā¦ The DM8 comes with 1 set of pink tips, and BGVP sells more pink tips, but I donāt know if the DM8 ones are model āS01ā or āE01ā. Seems to be only medium size for that S01. I definitely like the Spiral Dots, but they have a large bore, so not good for treble reduction(as much as bass tips), I assume/experience.
yup, but do I spot some foams as well?
You turning to the dark side?
Here is a very nice place with tons of silicone tips recs:
I try everything I can get my hands on. I will not turn.
I must have gotten some lucky genes, cause I have worn the FD5 for over 5 hours without discomfort (although I took them out for a few short bursts of time in there)
I might need to EQ the treble down some in Peace Equalizer tho
Just started listening to Believe! Default tips. Wow, these have a lovely, liquidy smooth yet still engaging sound. Iām impressed how light and flexible the cable is. I would have never guessed from pics. The shells are also way more beautiful than pics show. I like the sound a lotā¦! These feel tailored to āmaking beautiful musicā, while FD5 feels tailored to āmaximum audio accuracyā. I am using double the amp power(30%) for these that I run for most other IEMs(15%). These have a nice, thick sound. Damn. I do think the treble is a little too hot in a small area, like how a KZ BA driver or Tin T3 sounds. Vocal 'sās get too sharp. The fit so far is great(but not quite Heavenly, like L3). Absolutely no complaints, and no weird edges/bumps/tubes sticking out. God, there are SO MANY TIPS!!! Where is the manual for all of these tips, wtf?? This will take forever haha. Right now I would say these are killer for quieter, not-super-aggressive music, smooth jazz to Ozzy. I would choose FD5 for genres like dark ambient and anything with field recordings, to hear the ultimate amount of detail, as realistically as possible. Do you just want to listen to music, without the distraction of extreme detail(KBB)? Or do you want to hear everything(FD5)? Thereās definitely something different about the tonality about these two. Hard to say. FD5 feels like it has way more bass across the bass spectrum, while KBB seems to have a bigger bump in a smaller area(I do think I prefer this). FD5 bass can actually get a little terrifying, haha. FD5 is definitely less bright/peaky(with bass tips + wide tube). The treble on these already seems to have settled down since my first listen session the other day. FD5 is now giving me a straight-up āmonitorā vibe. (This is what something like ATH-M50x pretends it sounds like ^ ^) Iām pretty certain I know now what FD5 can do, so Iām definitely more interested in exploring what this KBB can doā¦ I think they are very well-defined and dynamic. These absolutely remind me of FH3 way more than FD5 does so far. That bass!
