šŸ”¶ FiiO FH3 2BA 1DD

Yes, I ordered the cable from Amazon. I had written more in my comment but the site ate it.

Iā€™m returning my pair of FH3s. My set had extreme driver flex on both sides. I couldnā€™t move at all without hearing it, regardless of tips (foam, spinfit, standard silicone). I found the set pleasant, but not fantastic like everyone is raving. Iā€™m wondering if I got a bad pair.

You def got a bad pair in terms of driver flex, but I would agree that they might be being overblown in terms of capability lol, I find them pretty enjoyable and nice for the price, but itā€™s no giant killer to me (most things rarely are), itā€™s just very competent for itā€™s performance bracket that really doesnā€™t do anything that offensive to me which is good since others in this range I typically have qualms with

Thought Iā€™d drop this here for FH5 comparisons to the FH3.

For those of you keeping track (if anyone even cares)ā€¦

I was sent the wrong color FH5 and I was very unimpressed with their sound. Wellā€¦ I received the proper set today.

Iā€™m getting pretty tired of this. They sound nothing like the previous set I received. These sound great. The mids are about perfect and the treble sits right about in-between the FH3 and FH7. Iā€™m reserving judgement on the bass for more listening/critical listening.

Whyā€¦ Whyā€¦ Why canā€™t these sets sound the same? I feel like I have to take back my impressions of the products constantly. Itā€™s really upsetting never knowing what youā€™re going to get, let alone trying to help others understand what they sound like or what they might get if they purchase a pair. UGH.

UPDATE: After listening to this FH5 for hours, I can say that this set sounds the most like listening to studio speakers of any IEM I have. Good or bad.

ā€¦ It seems like chifi is improving on the sound department at the cost of QCā€¦

That appears to be the case with as many issues being reported.

Donā€™t get me wrong, Iā€™m not saying the FH5 sounds ā€œbetterā€ by describing them like speakers. This is going to be another example of different flavors.

Some quick comparisons now that I have proper Fiio sets. Maybe.

The FH3 has the most bass, has more recessed mids and treble compared to the other Fiio hybrids. Might be too ā€œfunā€ for those wanting a balanced listening experience.

The FH5 is the most balanced and natural sounding of the Fiio hybrids. Might sound boring for those wanting a dynamic/energetic replay.

The FH7 has the most treble energy. Itā€™s bass sounds the softest of the Fiio hybrids. Treble detail might be too much for some. Can be sibilant at times.

The FD1 is a dynamic beast and has a very wide sound stage, even compared to the FH3.

Just got my FH3s today. Lazy question hereā€¦ any suggestions on where I can grab a test track or two that will help me keep an ear out for the potential DD death issue? I still consider myself pretty much a noob at this stuff and listen to a wide variety of music. That just makes me question whether Iā€™d have the ability to instantly pick out DD death if it occurs.

This is good for seal and bass to test the functioning of the dd in both channels- https://youtu.be/Hr92tRTUayM

what FiiO IEMā€™s are current? when I checked models listed on their site a few months back, most came up as ā€˜unavailableā€™ everywhere.

Ha! I actually put on Timbres and Bubbles to make sure the DDs werenā€™t DOA out of the box. Things are definitely more persistent on the low end in this track though so thank you!

Thanks for doing the comparison, looks like this set is way more in line with my tastes than the others. I do like a BIT more treble but I can (and have) EQ that problem.

Donā€™t worry. Youā€™ll know it when you hear it. Sigh. Youā€™ll lose bass, the set will just sound ā€œbadā€ and the center imaging will shift toward the side the DD has failed.

My go-to bass track I have for testing deep bass is Big Boi, Kill Jill. Not my kind of music, but canā€™t deny that ridiculous sub bass. Enjoy! Itā€™s also a perfect sibilance test as well with the female Asian vocalist in the very beginning.

Since you have got the proper set of FH5, do you still prefer the FH3 over the FH5 or the latter? Also, " The FH3 has the most bass, has more recessed mids and treble compared to the other Fiio hybrids." Does this mean that the FH3 has the most relaxed treble among them?

If you mean current as in new or still relevant.

Please remember, I just received the proper FH5 yesterday, so itā€™s possible that the sound may change over time. Lately Iā€™ve had to take back my comments on a lot of units due to unit variation and defective units so I am shy to say anything definitively.

Like I said earlier, this is more of a case of different flavors and what you will prefer as a listener and not a worst vs best scenario.

I was listening to all three hybrids last night and have to admit they all sound great but they all have their own differences/flavors compared to one another. I even changed out the FH7 nozzle filter to black to allow more treble through to help it distinguish itself from the FH5.

This post really sums up my basic thoughts between them allā€¦ šŸ”¶ FiiO FH3 2BA 1DD - #715 by PapaEmeritus

As for the FH3 and where my preferences lieā€¦ For my preferred music library, the FH3 is my preferred IEM out of all the hybrids because of its fun sound signature, elevated and extremely well controlled bass and itā€™s smooth treble.

In comparison, the FH5 is no slouch, and I can see anyone preferring its sound signature to either the FH3 or FH7 if they want a very balanced listening experience. I donā€™t know if I would say the FH3 treble is more ā€œrelaxedā€ than the FH5. I need more time with both to determine that, but itā€™s safe to say that the FH3ā€™s mids and treble are slightly more recessed than the FH5. They are probably about equally detailed. About detailā€¦ The FH5 is a smooth listening experience overall. I would not describe it as a very detailed IEM in general, nor is it necessarily soft. Itā€™s right down the middle with everything. It sounds like speakers. The FH7 is the slightly more detailed IEM with more defined imaging and boosted treble. Everything sounds coherent and how you would probably expect it to sound with the FH5, where the FH7 squeezes out more contrast and detail almost in an artificial way. Itā€™s almost like forced detail like a sharpening filter in Photoshop. It might not be how the photo should look, but some might prefer to be able to see increased detail to help the image pop.

Hereā€™s a good analogy I just thought up to compare the FH5 and FH7. If you wear glassesā€¦ If you can see clearly without your glasses, but when you put your glasses on, everything just becomes a bit crisper and sharper. FH5 vs FH7.

Hope this continues to help describe the differences between the hybrids. Describing audio is challenging. Sorry for the long post.

I see that these come with 3 different types of silicone tips. It seems like the black tips are more warm compared to the black/red ones. What have you all found regarding the differences?

The black are the middle ground imo. The grey/red ones are bass heavy and the clear/red ones are a little more airy and let treble through a bit more. Theyā€™re not drastically different but itā€™s enough to develop a preference. Iā€™ve settled on the clear and red ones.

Just got these today, and these are only my first impressions so keep that in mind. First of all these are a very very great and balanced IEM. They are more than worth their price but at the same time I donā€™t think they are anywhere near what the hype around these promised. I expected a much higher tier iem lol. Either way, love the detail so far and the very balanced sound signature. The only real possible negative might be the bass so far, itā€™s OK. Not the cleanest not the best, but itā€™s OK. As long as you are expecting a great IEM for the price you wonā€™t be disappointed, but even if you expect something better you will still enjoy them.

Iā€™ll be giving them more listens and see how it turns out.
