I believe you. I just know from my own experience and many others that have had nightmare issues with MMCX. One of my first IEMs had an MMCX connection. I never changed the cable once. They got so loose that the MMCX ultimately would not connect to the IEM any longer.
You can only do that so many times before the metals integrity fails.
I believe some manufacturers have been trying to improve the design. I just got a Fiio FD5 yesterday and the connections are rock solid, though Iāve heard they had issues with the FH3 connections being too tight. I wish they didnāt rotate at all. When they get loose, it creates issues for me. I prefer 2 pin.
i was pulling the connector housing but i was pulling it so hard (if youāve touched the housing itās like a rubbery material) that i lost grip on, which then led me to pulling onto the cable part which resulted in my just pulling it out completely

i didnāt expect the connectors to be as tight as they were, iām hoping other mmcx connectors arenāt as on tough as this and i probably should have tried to pull it more carefully with hindsight
i didnāt say it was a fault of the product i specifically said ābe careful with your mmcx iemsā which implies i was at fault so idk where that came from
My FH3 connectors were/are friggin tight, but they seemed to come off easier at a certain rotation. My other MMCX, TIN T3, come off/on nice & easy. Seems like they could be different MMCX variants, too.
I believe they are making them as tight as they are is because MMCX is known for becoming loose and ultimately not staying connected at all. Pick up the Final MMCX tool and youāll never have an issue again. It pops them right off with little effort.
thanks iāll look into getting one if i get an mmcx iem again, iāve got thieaudio l4s coming at any point and theyāll probs be my iem endgame for a few months
Good question. I know some reviewers prefer them. They are fine as long as they stay tight. Thatās why I leave them alone on the IEMs I own that have them. I prefer 2 pin.
yup, prefer 2pin over mmcx as well. But I definitely take a replaceable mmcx connector over a non-replaceable connection.
The question is, how can companies like Periodic audio justify having a non-replaceable cable (on their 300 usd iem!!! that also sounds like shit) while even the 7 usd KZ EDX has a 2 pin connectorā¦
Got the these a few days ago, Iāve had a few $50 or cheaper iems but these sound pretty great compared to those. Iāve never had fitting issues with my previous iems but they were all quite smaller than the fh3ās and after after a few minutes of wearing them my right ear only starts to hurt on the outside of my ear from the shell (no problem with the nozzle deeper inside my ear). Iāve tried s/m/l tips and itās all the same even if I have a good or bad seal from the tips. The only tip that makes the shell stick out enough to not hurt are foam tips but personally I much rather prefer the way the small bore silicone tips sound. So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or work arounds of how I could get these to sit more comfortably in my right ear? One thing I was wondering about is if I put up with the pain long enough for a few weeks/months Iām curious if they would push my ear out slowly so it forms better to the shape? Idk that might sound stupid but only thing I can think of lol. Also uploading a pic of the exact area that hurts my ear.
Well that sucks! For me the FH3 is one of my most comfortable but everybodyās ears are different. Not really sure about your plan although it will probably do one of two thingsā¦ either your ear will get used to it or your threshold will decrease even more. Sorry I do not have the answer.
Perhaps you could āpadā the outer edge of the shell with athletic tape or gauze? It is entirely possible that your ear will āget used toā the shell on its own over time, but I can only imagine that a layer of padding may help you, either now or long-term.
I find I need a straight connector on his shape of iem so I have better range of rotation and tilt the iem back quite a bit, but maybe you need to rotate one way or the other
Canāt seem to get a good seal this way but it was a good idea. Might just have to go my route and try suffering for awhile.
Yea it feels great in my left ear but Iāve always been cursed with headphones not having the perfect fit on both ears and I guess it applies to iems too haha.
I donāt have any of that with me at the moment but Iāll try and remember to pick some up later, thanks for the idea.
I donāt have one with me at the moment and donāt really want to go out of my way to buy another cable right away but if the issue persists and I run out of options Iāll probably try this thanks.
I had some discomfort with these (also the outer right ear) for maybe a week or two. I tried using them for at least one album most days. Suddenly theyāre now the most comfortable audio gear I have. Iād be happy to wear them without playing music. So if you can, try to stick with them for a while.
