đŸ”¶ Focal Elex

What causes the dynamic range to be large? Size of the driver? FR?

I’m not too sure since I didn’t really look into it but I think it’s the overall way they designed the headphones

If I ask a question Mon doesn’t immediately know the answer to, have I broken the internet?

I mean it probably has something to do with the driver design and how they have made the enclosure

What’s everyone listening to on their Elex?

Duel of the Fates from Star Wars Episode 3 sounds amazing.

Purity Ring

Anything really.

Anybody know of a good replacement cable for this thing that ends in an angled 3.5mm?

I ordered a replacement from Hart audio, with straight 3.5mm mono.
Just because I hate the focal cable.
But if you custom order they will make anything you want with minimal markup over the none custom cables.

Man just got mine today. Have to admit the cables are terrible. They sure know how to make them look lovely though.

Yeah, cables are pretty shite, but the rest of the headphones aren’t imo lol

I gotta say they are very beautiful. The clamp feels like its trying to crush my head. I have a large head so i kind of expected that. Normally with any of my other cans i had no hesitation to stretch the band. This set makes me a little nervous to try that, especially considering how it appears to be constructed in the center of the band. Comfort is much worse then the sendy’s regardless of their similar weight. Gotta figure these things out over time. They don’t distribute the weight over the head band well. They do sound pretty stellar.

Took me a little while to find a way to perch them on my head, so the weight wasn’t annoying, but I do find them comfortable now.
I do still prefer the whole adjustable band over adjustable earpieces thing in general though.
And as you say given the sound I’ll put up with the headband and crappy cable.

The pads do break in and the clamp lessens from use

I have found the mechanical clipping level of the driver too, read about it so had to find where that happens. Bass has to get really nutty for that to happen. I was slightly worried it was lower volume due to the amount of people who have noted it. These get plenty loud before it happens. Thank goodness.

For reference like half way on low gain. SMSL sp200 through the balanced connector at full tilt from my d50s dac. generally im listening at about half that volume when im really getting into it.

stock cables are definitely not bad, IMO. They are pretty chunky, but they do straighten out pretty easily, by just running them through your hands a few times. They don’t have crazy ‘memory’ or anything and reshape pretty easily. They are way too thick for any sort of portable use-case. I personally use the hart-audio cables as well.

You must have lucked out lol

Have you ever tried running them through your hands? Like enough to create a bit of friction?
For example, good cables, just don’t hold the ‘kinks’ right? The Focal Elex cables do hold the ‘kinks’, but they are relatively easy to work out. Some cables, you can run them through your hands all day, leave them straight for days
and they still come back to ‘kink’ hell. I was able to straighten out the Elex cables pretty easily.

The cable from my meze 99 noir work perfectly and as a cable is 1000000x nicer.

I believe it!

Are you still planning to resell that? I don’t care about the pads or the cables unless you want to get rid of the cables.
