Itâs definitely a noticeable jump. Tonally, I like them both plenty, (I really like how vocals really come forward on the 660s) but the Elex adds some pretty crazy dynamics/contrast that I personally had not heard before. The way a vocalist can hit mid-high notes, while the low-end hits deep from a separate instrument is really cool. Itâs very 3-dimensional. They justify their price a lot better than the 660s, IMO.
Can agree with this for sure
Iâve not heard the 660s but I can say the elex is unlike anything Iâve heard. Not even really sure how to describe it. Kinda all I want to do now is listen to them, and I havenât had a ton of time to do so since I got them and it makes me sad haha
I dont understand the whole cable thing. I though the one that came with the Elex was pretty nice. can someone link a cheap nice cable from ebay to replace it that would be good?
I had the HD650. Not the HD6XX. I dont know if there was any change but i was not impressed by the HD650, i sent it back. I was a little impressed with the HD600 but that damn veil, i sent that back too. I wasnt really happy with a headphone till i got the Sundara but i hated that air and i sent it back.
Then i got the Aivaâs and mind blown. The Elex is that same mind blown experience except its more balanced and reliable. its supposed to be a super HD6XX which makes no sense to me cause they are laaaaaame.
Yeah, itâs all preferences lol. Glad you got it figured out what you like tho. Also I donât think the elex is a super 650 or 600 like people say, as I donât think they are too similar either
Im waiting on the non balanced 3m version to arrive but its the same as the stock meze 99 noir cable minus the mic. Really like how compliant the cable is for desktop use.
Nice, thanks only 20 bucks. what makes them better than the ones that came with the Elex?
Doesnât try to wrestle me, light and very flexible while also being a nice clean braided cable. No difference in sound quality what so ever, just more of a quality of life update. I like having a 10 footer at the desk in case i want to move around a bit without yanking the amp or headphones off my head.
Yeah i think ive figured it out. I like treble, but not too much. i like the headphone to be as balanced as possible, bass, mids, treble. but maybe adjusted 15% high past neutral. and detail, tons of detail. forward soundstage. good imaging. good range. i dont like air. would like to avoid sibilance if thats possible.
Thas why im going after the L700 next. or the Aeolus.
I really hate the Elex cable, but I couldnât waste a perfectly fine Neutrik XLR cable. I decided to make a Hart Audio cable compatible interconnect. Nothing more satisfying than cutting up that extremely high microphonic rigid cable.
I dont understand why people hate this cable so much lol. seems like a nice cable to me
Itâs stiff, heavy and difficult to manage.
As summed up by FBizzle lol
Microphonics or microphony describes the phenomenon wherein certain components in electronic devices transform mechanical vibrations into an undesired electrical signal (noise)
So the cable is causing noise in the headphone?
Yeah, the cable is microphonic and when you rub it on a shirt or surface the noise is easily transfered to the headphone cups. With an aftermarket cable this issue is reduced and cable handling noise is not an issue
Basically every time you move, you hear the cable brush against your clothes, through your headphones.
im rubbing this all over the place. tossing it around. not hearing anything. is it that noticeable?
I think itâs pretty noticable, so you may have the one and only legendary pair somehow. You have been blessed by the audio gods
If it wasnât for the fact that i like to keep boxes and original parts stashed away i would have burned the cable in a fire the second the replacement meze cable came in. something about moving around and feeling the cable tug, and not conform drives me nuts!
Like honestly, the stock focal cables have to be the worst for the price they charge for the headphones, rivaled only by the hifiman sticky tube cables lol (only taking about modern headphones)
