Mass drop 789 with smsl su-8 and MonoPrice thx desk top mostly.
Strange, thatās really weird. Does the treble sound off like itās broken or just more elevated?
No not really off just really piercing. Especially on electric guitars. It was hard for me to listen when I first got it so I let it play for two days and it seemed to smooth out some. I got my Elegia today and it was night and day. The highs really sounded good compared to the elex.
I really wouldnāt describe the Elex as particularly sharp.
Yeah it just sounds like a preference thing then, you must be fairly sensitive to treble
Idk maybe. I have several HP sundara, ananda, 1990 and Iāve never had any issues like I do with these.
Yeah thatās really weird then, as those are mostly brighter headphones lol
Iām thinking maybe contacting drop and see if they could send me a different pair. Iāve only had them 2-3 weeks.
Yeah I would contact them because that sounds pretty weird
Thank you for taking the time to help me out!
Definitely contact Drop, that does not sound like an Elex.
Iāve got the verite pads as well for the aeolus, but they are my least favorite. Iād consider the suede a balanced kind of neutral, but the verite pads just kind of sounds flat. If that sounds like something youād like, then by all means, try the verite pads. They are also the flattest pads and the driver will probably touch your ears, though. I think the best pads for the aeolus are both the stock pads and the suede in general.
You yourself have said the Aeolus with suede pads is a better elex. M0N has called the Verite a more natural Focal Utopia. Clearly ZMF is going in an upward trajectory in terms of technical capability while building a portfolio of differently tuned products as they go on. The fact they sound as great as they do WHILE having such a great build and look, should be commended. To answer your question, youāre paying for both, and you are getting both.
When you see one in person, before you even put it on, it immediately hits you just how beautiful and well made they are. The only way someone wouldnāt be tilted is I guess if they put a blindfold on and tried them out before even seeing them for the first time. Personally, if I didnāt think my aeolus sounded great, I wouldāve resold it, art or not.
Long time no see folks.
Just read all the new posts on here since the last time I posted. Loving the comparisons of Focal to ZMF. This is exactly what I was hoping to find.
Becaaaaaauuuseā¦
I have an update on my Elex that were purchased a few months ago. Drop has approved a return, and honestly props to them for that. I think you can honestly feel safe purchasing from them.
That being saidā¦ The drivers had a noticable volume level difference. I was always feeling that the center stage of my music was always to the left, and finally one day I was listening to a mono track, turned the headphones around, and everything was shifted to the right! All this time I thought it was just my hearing or something.
Anyways, the Elex is going back so Iām looking to get something else. I love the soundstage presentation of the Elex, HD800, Clear, etc. Donāt like HD650, Sendy Aiva, Beyerdynamic DT1990, etc type of soundstage. HE4xx soundstage wasnāt terrible.
With that type of soundstage preference in mind Iām thinking of getting either a Clear, ZMF of some kind, or a HIFIman of some kind. I suppose Audeze too.
Any ideas? Keep in mind in a minimalist, and prefer to own one pair of open backs at a time so a good all around performer (like the Elex) is preferred.
Also I like to drive directly from my DAP
If you still plan to use that FIIO DAP Iām not sure a Clear/ZMF would be for you.
Iāve used the clear on it. The low impedance works even better than the Elex!
Given what I know and have listened to with the m6 the clear is the current first choice.
If you already tried the Clear and you like it, I canāt argue that. You have to get what works for you.
A ZMF would be harder to drive though. I donāt think Iām getting the best out of an Aeolus with my THX amp.
I think you can get more out of the clear though with something like an rnhp imo. I would highly suggest that in the future, really improves the setup
Fosho.
Yeah that bit definitely limits the options.
Iām pretty interested in the HIFIman stuff and it seems they are very hard to drive.
Also, should have mentioned that I hate the Focal fit comfort from day one an on. Lol is it so much to ask for a little clamp force and swiveling cups? Itās like theyāre too loose and too tight all at once.
I guess what Iām thinking when it comes to power is that Iām looking for something that works. Maybe not to itās full potential like the Elex, but not something thatās hot garbage like the HD809 or DT1990. Both of those were horrible because of the lack of amplification.
